For entertainment value. I’d say Cena overall will go down as having the better run, but Roman had a higher peak. That mania 37 match was his true coronation

Roman from 2015-2018 was so many years of bad television that I don't think that he's better than Cena because of it. If those years were passable for him, I mean, if those years were at least "good" then yeah he'd beat Cena but nah, they weren't. Those years completely changed the landscape of the company from not only a booking perspective for him and the world title but it affected his peers, other titles in the company and the company as a whole.
Sad that it happened but yeah, Cena got this since we had 4 years of bad Reigns booking.

The one thing Roman got going for him right now is the fact that he turned heel. Something I thought WWE wouldn't pull the trigger on. I'll give him his due, because his work as a heel has been far much better, but still, it doesn't excuse that it should've been done long ago rather than continuously trying to shove Roman down our throats in an attempt to make him the face of the company.
Aside from that, Cena has had the better run, even though the SuperCena era has brought on some of the most bloody miserable moments of watching wrestling. -____-

I never actively quit watching shows when Cena was around. I only complained loudly a lot. I’m on like mini-vacation 5 from Roman. Lmao
CENA WINS!

Cena by far. They treated Cena as a top guy and booked him as such. Roman, they jerked around worse they did Bret.

I know what you mean but it's funny to consider this a coronation for Roman when it was his 5th Wrestlemania main event and 3rd win. Only Hogan and HHH have main evented Wrestlemania more and at this rate Roman is going to break their records if he sticks around for even just another 3-5 years.

Romans good stuff only started since the heel turn. The other five years were wasted

Both got boo’d a lot, even as faces. But while Cena was hated by the IWC he never faced hatred from the general audience anywhere near like Reigns did
But Cenas was a lot more cringe

Roman Reigns was absolutely terrible for a long time. As much as people want to criticize Cena for his "five moves of doom" around 2005-2006, that's just your standard babyface winning sequence popularized by his predecessors. He had a lot of years of putting on great matches even when his character was cringe. Roman Reigns for a good long while was just spamming Superman Punches until he hit the Spear with no sense of in-ring psychology. John Cena I think is underrated at ring psychology if anything. He knew how to play a crowd, especially hostile ones.
Reigns has been a lot better with his heel character, but that's like half a year of solid booking against years' worth of horrible booking. Cena wins by default at this point.

Roman has been a great heel but he spent the better part of 4 years or so being hated by the general audience despite trying to be a face.
Cena kinda wins by default.

It's hard to judge because Cena's is over. I guess Cena for having a higher average quality.
Roman is honestly a better heel, but I feel like if/when he becomes face again, it's going to be better than his initial top face run because they stopped clowning around with stuff like the Undertaker feud where they refused to go all the way with the turn.

Both Cena and Roman were treated unfairly by a handful of fans who just refused to give them a chance for anything they did, honestly.
It's one thing to criticize a wrestler's work and to want different people in the main event mix, but the level of vitriol people threw both their way and the company's way got to the point of ridiculousness.
I'm talking about the fans who actively rooted for them to get injured or fired, or worse. That's more "cringe" than just about anything those two were asked to do by Vince.

Cena wasn't pushed past the moon because his ultra famous cousin might be pressured into coming back to wrestle.
So Cena at least earned his merits on his own.

The think people forget is before Cena won the world title he was arguably the most popular act in the company and it wasn't even close. Yeah a portion of the audience turned on Cena after the move to raw and he became Super Cena. And even during his time on top Cena sold a lot of merchandise.
Roman was part of a very popular group but before they made him the guy he was neither as over as a singles guy nor did he ever move the merchandise

Objectively John Cena.
Personally I hated them both, though Roman's work as a heel is brilliant. The fact that he got booed at Mania when the excuse to not turn him for years was "he'll just start getting cheered" proves he was born to be the villain.

I was as big a Cena hater as the next guy but he was undeniably the top guy and it felt that way. Roman’s face push always felt like Vince’s pet project that was going to be on top whether we liked it or not. I never bought into it myself, and largely tuned out during much of his run.
This current Head of the Table gimmick has been great stuff though, he feels more legit now than he ever did during his forced five year face run.

Roman as a heel is brilliant though Cena as the Face Top guy is far greater and Roman as a Face Top guy was a flop. Yes people booed Cena but for every boo you got a cheer and a kid wanting to buy his merchandise. You never got that with Roman. Heel Roman though is fantastic and works so well

Yeah and people wanted Cena to become champion, people were lukewarm on Roman.
Take Cena's first seven manias in the top of the card vs. Romans.
vs. JBL vs. HHH vs. HBK vs. HHH vs. Orton vs. Big Show vs. Edge vs. Batista vs. Miz
vs. Lesnar (vs. Rollings) vs. Triple H vs. Undertaker vs. Lesnar vs. Drew vs. Covid vs. Edge vs. Bryan
One of these things is much better than the other.
