I swear there was an originally announced opponent for Alundra Blayze at WrestleMania X before they went with Leilani Kai. I even thought they had shown graphics for the match on TV before switching to Kai. Does anyone remember? I tried researching and can't find it. Luna seems a likely candidate but I'm not sure that's who I'm thinking.

I'm not sure if Debbie Combs was actually announced on TV but she definitely was in the Mania preview issue of WWF Magazine.

Was the only reason they switched it because Vince wanted someone from the first Wrestlemania on the Mania X card?

Was the only reason they switched it because Vince wanted someone from the first Wrestlemania on the Mania X card? Either that or he was at the time still loyal to the Best Little, um, House in South Carolina.

Was the only reason they switched it because Vince wanted someone from the first Wrestlemania on the Mania X card? I don't know about that. I just remembered Kai did zero promos leading up to Mania and wasn't on Raw or Superstars. I'm inclined to believe that Vince and WWF were reaching deep to get an opponent to face Alexandra. There's wasn't a whole lot of depth in female competitors in 1994.

Leilani Kai must be in a daze, she must face Alundra Blayze!

Was the only reason they switched it because Vince wanted someone from the first Wrestlemania on the Mania X card? That was the reason Lawler couldn’t be in the Legends v. Jericho match. Vince crazily decided it could only be guys who wrestled at Mania 1. Why??? Vince reasons. It was never mentioned on TV.

That match had no heat whatsoever. Leilani didn't even resemble how she looked 9 years earlier. Combs would have been just as good a choice.

And hey, that match happened! Though of course Blayze was Madusa again by that time.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UuJ3bQJ9Yo

I always wondered why they called her Patty Stone Grinder when she was obviously Leilani Kai and wrestled previously as Leilani Kai in 1991, 1996 and 1997.
On another note I hear Debbie Combs was originally to be on Moolah's Survivor Series 1987 team but was dropped for Rockin Robin, cant say she has much luck on PPV

Her tattoo looks fake like Waylon Mercy's.
Was that WCW match from the Russo era because it seems like something he would do-give a somewhat well known wrestler a crazy name.
Also, I would think if it were the Bischoff era he would somehow find a way to poke fun at Vince even if over a short lived WWF employee like Leilani. I'm surprised Bischoff wouldn't go after Moolah. I know she did Slamboree 1993 which was right at the beginning of his era but with him going after everyone he could in WWF, you'd think he would go after a legacy (pre scandal) like Moolah during the MNW.

It seemed to me that they were running out of North American-based talent who could work credibly and competitively with Miceli. She was cut from an entirely different bolt of cloth from anyone under Moolah's system (though I think Miceli, too, was at one point being managed by Moolah behind the scenes) and had worked extensively in Japan.
It was something that WWE fans had very rarely seen in Vince, Jr's time and had been hankered for since the Jumping Bomb Angels came in in 1987? for that cup of coffee. Fans wanted to see women wrestling on Blayze's level. It became a Debbie Desperado situation where you couldn't really build a division on one woman who was so far ahead of everyone else and when most of the women would might have been brought up to that level were elsewhere or had become managers/valets.

First, didn't the scandal break out after she died? Second, yeah, maybe as some kind of legacy character....though I could see her showing up when Russo got there (and, you know, if her and Mae weren't firmly comic relief in the WWF). Not unlike Steele, Santana, and Snuka's cameos. But given how Bischoff looked internationally for new talent, I'd see him going overseas for a women's division rather than in the States. And he tried to but it never caught on.

Instead of Jericho embarrassing two has-beens and then getting shocked by Steamboat, it would have made way more sense why Jericho was pushed to the limit. Why is Vince the way he is?
