My feeling on him is that I never really had too much issue with his commentary. He does make the occasional comment that makes me cringe but other than that, he lets Excalibur carry it mostly I feel so he’s more of the voice of AEW than JR is.
He’s kind of in the same boat Jericho where having him around gives AEW a ton of credibility that they wouldn’t have had otherwise. But also with Jericho, you don’t really know how long it will last since neither are in their primes anymore.

Isn’t it crazy the fans Vs JR has to be one of AEW’s top 10 feuds?
What more can be said, really? lol. Years of WWE commentary has made me immune to any commentary but when I hear complaints about JR from people online (and even friends of mine..lol) i get it, I get it.
It’ll be over soon. No way he’ll stay on the booth after his contract thing. And I had no idea about Mauro coming in, WTF?! That’s perfect. That’s awesome.

As much as I love JR I'm honestly fine with almost any commentary changes as long as Excalibur is there. Just one episode of Elevation made me realize how weird AEW is without him (no disrespect to Paul Wight who has gotten really good in a really short period of time)

I wont be watching until tomorrow night, but if it's really this bad, I cannot wait.
I love my Friday routine of getting drunk and giggling at shit on AEW

I would rather listen to JR farting into the microphone than listen to Tazz on commentary ever.

Taz was always great in WWE on commentary (didn’t watch much TNA if he announced for them) so I’ve always been a fan. He could slide right in if JR doesn’t re-sign.

Controversial maybe, but I'd take curmudgeonly J.R. any day of the week over Mauro and his word vomit.

Taz was fine to start in TNA but now we know they were constantly delaying paying him a lot, you can tell the moment that started happening in how much he gave a damn.

What's wrong with Excalibur as the lead guy? Every time I see a new move, there's Excalibur with a timely call and a proper name for the move. The guy is always on point and seems to carry the bulk of the announcing every week, am I missing something here? He should get more credit and should be the main announcer.

He’s almost too good at the play-by-play bit. Excalibur has improved his game in every way, and that includes getting the story across. And honestly, he might even get better once the booth shifts a bit. I’ve said it before but my ideal AEW commentary team would be Excalibur/Kingston/Tony.

The problem right now is Excalibur is doing play by play but also has to get across some of the storylines that JR and Tony aren't as familiar with. Taz usually does a better job with that when they work together. My ideal three man booth would be Excalibur, Schiavone, and Taz and you could have JR be the guy for sit down interviews. You could also have JR just be a PPV/big time main event announcer if you want.

He'll still have his nights where he's good on commentary, but when he has his off nights, it's so bad it brings down the overall quality of the show. At this point, I feel it's better to utilize JR in a limited role. Like you said, use him to do sit down interviews or have him announce the big time matches.
Taz on the other hand, I felt he's done a great job at the booth. I'd be perfectly fine with having him on commentary with Excalibur and Schiavone.

Excalibur works hard, but I don't care about his work. His voice has no gravitas and he can't develop it, sadly. He gets across the content perfectly fine and glues the booth together, but I don't buy him as a main play-by-play guy like JR was in his prime. Plus as a casual viewer of AEW I feel irrationally alienated by his expectations of my knowledge. It feels less like he's trying to make me care about things and more like he tells me that I should do it.

Excalibur is really good in his role as a color and analysis guy, but I don't think he could carry a broadcast in the lead role like Schiavone or JR when he's on can. He reminds me a lot of Mike Tenay in that regard. Tenay was good in that role in WCW, but when he took over the lead role in TNA he was terrible.

Yeah for as much weird shit as JR says I would kinda prefer it if the commentary team was just Schiavone and JR. Excalibur hits like a smarky Todd Grisham for me.

Despite his elderly flaws JR is the voice of wrestling for me and I have no desire to see him go away. Especially as long as I still have Cole's anorexic voice vomiting in my ear every PPV.

I feel like I’m open minded to opposing opinions, or at least breaking down barriers of opening myself, but the words “smarky Todd Grisham” being associates with Excalibur is making me irrationally twitch.
