After listening to him for decades I must be just so used to him. I didn’t notice him being shitty at all last episode

No clue how shitty that he is lately, but I will say that they should start phasing him out. He served his purpose and eventually he’s going to say something really stupid and it’s going to bring heat to AEW.

Dunno on that, I feel like if that were going to happen, the Anna Jay "wardrobe malfunction" joke would have been it. And as much as the repeated references to Killer Karl Kox are awful, they also seem to be flying right under the radar in the broader sense. I'd rather get someone else in there - mostly, someone who actually gets what most of the roster is about instead of needing to have it explained to them by the one Millenial nerd at the commentary table - but I have no illusions that AEW is really seeing any publicity detriment from JR.

I think what drives me nuts most about JR is his incessant need to namedrop old wrestlers nobody remembers. Oh look at that Irish whip, invented by Danny McWhatever. Stop showing off, noone cares who invented the Irish whip. Or the Butch Reed thing. I had to look up who Butch Reed was, I assumed that he was some big deal champion from the territory era who was a massive star in his hayday and just got lost to time after the TV wrestling boom. No, he was a WCW tag-team guy who regularly lost to the Nasty Boys and Public Enemy. That's how you wanna get me excited for Will Hobbs as a future prospect, by telling me he's like this old guy who was never a big deal? You disrespecting Butch Reed says everything about you, and not Jim Ross for mentioning him. I find this to be a shameful take on a former Mid-South champion, someone in the WWF world title tournament in WM 4, and a former NWA World Tag champion who had classic matches with the Horsemen and the Steiners. Put some respect on the name of someone who was a star and just recently passed.

Is Goldenboy still an option? He was great at the one show he did and then kinda disappeared. I think Schiavone took his spot, though I could be wrong.

I love Excalibur except when he over sells near falls “NEW CHAMPION NEW CHAMPION!!! Noooooooo!”
If he just tones it down a touch and saves that level for the genuinely big moments he’d be amazing.

Well, technically, it was less "they let him go" and more "even when they were doing stadium shows, it was next to impossible to get him so they just ended up letting the contract expire". In between The Titan Games and being commentator for literally every eSport in the world. If it wasn't for that, he'd be on my dream team to be honest.

History provides context, and helps build the wrestling world at large. The art of wrestling doesn't exist in a vacuum, after all, and everything ever done in wrestling is built off an idea someone else had previously. On the whole, the historical nods here and there enrich the product. While I'm tired of JR on the whole as a commentator, I would love it if he had a weekly or monthly YouTube segment where he would draw some comparisons between the current AEW roster with some older territory style wrestlers. You can appreciate your history while still looking ahead, is how I look at it.

See, right away I think of the Joe Hendry segments ROH are doing where he discusses strategy and makes comparisons to ROH history seeing as he can’t actually be there to wrestle and he’s charismatic enough to pull that off. Ross doing something like that with a Conrad sort of personality giving him questions to ask relating to it would be a great use of him, to be honest.

I'm willing to bet AEW's got the budget to do it and do it right, and having JR literally just do a 5-10 minute breakdown of a wrestler's style and the history of it would be money, in my opinion. Hell, I'm even coming up with one for Darby in my head right now where JR breaks down his Hardy-esque daredevil style mixed with his mat-based technical style, which makes him a dangerous opponent despite his relative lack of size. Basically, just a Kayfabe friendly mockumentary type of thing with a sports oriented feel. That's right up JR's alley, and you can edit it however you want for any gaffes he may have.

I'm fine with callbacks and kisses to the past, just can we avoid the ones that either reference the KKK in their name or were card carrying members? If you want to call back to someone who did a great Brainbuster, why not, say, Eddie Guerrero?

Yeah, generally I LOVE when he brings up old school wrestlers to compare to the née stars. But yeah, I think he should probably not mention Killer Karl Kox. I think he mentioned Bob Sweetan once too, who is even worse.

Jim Ross may be crotchety, but if he made you look up who Butch Reed was, then he's alright with me. Part of AEW's charm is that it's not the company that controls the history, so you can here some of these names.

I have to admit, I saw nothing particularly wrong with JRs performance on the last Dynamite. He miscalled a move. Big deal.

JR’s a real mixed bag for me at times and I do agree last week wasn’t great.
But I have to call a spade a spade, “And don’t forget Rick Knox!” cracked me up.

The only thing that irritated me was he referred to Austin Gunn as 'Billy Gunn's son' instead of 'Son of a Gunn'. Absolute open goal, that.

This feels like it warrants reviving. Honestly he was so bad tonight that it felt like he was being actively spiteful with it.
