Rick Knox isn't exactly the most observant referee ever.

Was Knox the one they picked to wear the bee suit in the exploding ring match and he spent the entire match over reacting and failing about, as he was the one being hit?
That guy is the worst.

I do think they've done a good job of protecting Aubrey's credibility, and Bryce at least threw Matt Hardy and co. out when they kept cheating on Dark, but that only happened after Colt physically turned him around because he kept being distracted by the faces repeatedly.
Like, we're not in "Mike Posey catches Kip Sabian in the ring during one of Penelope Ford's matches and just kind of stares slack-jawed at him, not so much as ejecting him from the arena, much less disqualifying Ford" territory, at least. That was pre-pandemic and easily the shittiest example of incompetent refs in AEW history so far for me. I imagine Kip got chewed out a bit by the agents, because he got a lot better about not blatantly cheating.
I do think they could stand to dial it back just a bit. Hell, have Acclaimed outright get disqualified or something when they pull their chain shit just once, especially if someone like Orange tricks them into doing it in front of the ref. Just, something to put a little more credibility on non-Aubrey refs.

DQ finishes are universally awful, and make even otherwise great matches matches that have them (HBK/Mankind) feel like a waste of time. I'll take AEW refs looking incompetent if it means never (or extremely rarely) seeing a DQ finish again.

Get rid, just have a dude backstage pressing buttons on a soundboard.

I mean, are we gonna act like the vast majority of refs throughout the history of wrestling haven't been Patrick Star levels of oblivious?

I hate how one kayfabe spot to make Knox look like an idiot, to get heel heat, turns into this meta convo about all refs.
I can tell Jim Brunzell and B Brian Blair apart, we all saw it happen, that's the point. We all saw the heels slap their hands and pretend to tag in, why didn't the ref see it? You're supposed to react to the heel, it's literally what pro wrestling is based on. This has been a popular spot since the 1950's.
I don't think AEW refs are dumb as rocks, I think in the rush to be critical, some modern fans just don't allow themselves to enjoy the nuances that make wrestling fun.

Rick Knox isn't exactly the most observant referee ever. That's what he wants you to think. In reality, he's in cahoots with the Bucks, since they were the ones who signed him to AEW. EVIL REF RICK KNOX!!!

AEW refs have always been like awful in tag matches. Like why bother taging since there hasn't been any effort to not just allow double teams all the time
Honestly the worst one was the Orange Cassidy Jericho match where OC had juice thrown in his face and Aubrey Edwards just counted the near fall despite there being f***ing juice everywhere.

When they hired Rick Knox for AEW I think the Bucks called him their personal referee, as in he would ref most of their matches. With the thing about Brandon Cutler and Nakazawa being Elite stooges maybe they're having Rick Knox be one too kinda like when Nick Patrick was an NWO ref.

Oh, I sure as hell don't want them to be common, but I mean, throwing a random DQ on a Dark or Elevation from time to time wouldn't be too bad. Obviously, not something you'd want to do often, but it'd keep people on their toes. Hell, we've had a couple of count outs, even if that's also been very rare.

Rick Knox was the same ref who reffed that tag match at Summerslam between the Hart Foundation and Demolition and couldn't tell the two members of Demolition apart. Okay not really, but this scenario really reminded me of that whole thing.

So long as we don't get them on Dynamite or PPVs this would be acceptable since the matches on Dark and Elevation are lower-stakes.

If you're never going to have count-outs or DQs, then don't insult my intelligence by teasing them. I know for a fact that it's not going to happen, so if you have spots where the face is slowly crawling towards the ring you are wasting my time.
Also making big matches no DQ, no count-out is pointless.
