But a sneaky runner-up is the Stanley Cup. It's hard to explain what the summer of 2011 was like after the Bruins won the Stanley Cup. Maybe it was because they hadn't hoisted the Cup since 1970, but that Cup run was magical. It captured the attention of EVERYONE in New England. People still wax nostalgic about nights at the bars watching those playoff games. And after the Bruins won, it felt like a solid two months of Bruins players being seen partying out and about in Boston and being lauded as celebrities and conquering heroes. Full disclosure: The Bruins are my second love, trailing only my wife. So, there's a bias. So, with that said, I'll second what you said. From June 15th, when Zdeno Chara hoisted the Cup, until the banner raising that October, it felt like a giant Summer long party. I've been to a lot of parades over the last 20 years, and none of them had the feeling of the Bruins victory parade. That warm Saturday morning/afternoon ranks as one of the happiest days of my life.

In Colorado it is the Super Bowl. The Denver Broncos are a big deal here and John Elway is second to none in the state.

Where I live on NC it's College Basketball championship. With so many Carolina-duke fans here.
Some might think it's the Super Bowl with the Panthers but they're quite a few fans of other teams here. Especially the fans who has been living here since before the panthers came (1995), I'm a Washington fan and this was Redskin country before Charlotte got a team.

Super Bowl and World Series are pretty much neck-and-neck around here. But even though this region of the country hasn't seen a Larry O'Brien trophy since the 70's, I think it'd go absolutely nuts if the Knicks brought one home. Not as sure about the Nets.

I'm not a Lions fan, but if by some miracle they were ever to win the Super Bowl things would be crazy here. I tend to see more love for the Red Wings and Tigers around here though, so I'd say the Stanley Cup or World Series.

I grew up in Farmington, I moved to TN about ten years ago. Lions winning would be insane. I know they didn't win the world series in 06, but I feel the Tigers just getting there was a bigger deal, than the Pistons winning in 04 or Red Wings in 08. Man the 00s were a great time to be a Detroit sports fan.

But even though this region of the country hasn't seen a Larry O'Brien trophy since the 70's, I think it'd go absolutely nuts if the Knicks brought one home. Not as sure about the Nets. Yeah, like I said of the big four leagues in the NYC metro area, NBA fandom around here is likely the most lopsided toward one team, as the Knicks have consistently been a bigger deal than the Nets over their histories. It's at least closer to 50/50 with a lot of the other leagues (at least 60/40?), but for a long time it's felt like at least 70/30 Knicks over Nets. Of course, this also brings up another interesting wrinkle in this discussion: is there a championship that means more to your location in a vacuum, and is there a title that would mean the most to your location if a specific team wins it due to a long drought? In that regard it's fair to say that, around NYC, Jets and Knicks fans are the most primed to go insane if their teams ever end up winning again, since the Knicks haven't had a title since '73 and the Jets haven't even made the Super Bowl since their surprise win at SB III. That's the vibe I got reading people here talking about St. Louis; it's tough for an outside to look there and not think it's mostly Cardinals country, and thus the World Series matters most, but the Blues' victory undid 50 years or whatever of frustration and near misses, so there might've been a greater catharsis with that win even if the Stanley Cup itself might not be as big for the region as the Commissioner's Trophy in most years...again, just saying that as an outside observer.

I'd say it's also lopsided with hockey, but then there's three teams in the area. The Devils and Islanders are also not really NYC-based teams outside of the failed Brooklyn experiment with the Isles for a couple of years. So you've got the Rangers with true domination over the city itself and spreading out over the metro area while the Isles and Devils have their regional fanbases in Long Island and New Jersey.
And I got a similar vibe when the Kings won the Stanley Cup. LA has a reputation as a basketball town and for fairweather fans, but the Kings fans are diehards.

Here in Vegas, it's definitely the Stanley Cup, as the Golden Knights were Vegas's first major league team, and we were the runners up in the inaugural season.
It remains to be seen if the Las Vegas Raiders or any future Vegas teams can supplant that.

Probably either the Super Bowl (Titans) or Stanley Cup (Predators), though I doubt many people would complain if Nashville SC wins the MLS Cup at some point.

Hockey fans are hockey fans. Not really sure there are many "casual" NHL fans. NYC may not be a "hockey town" but if you're a fan of one of the local teams and they're in the playoffs, I've always found that when they are eliminated, it stings the most.

In England in general? Premier League.
However, I'm from a rugby league town and now live in a nearby rugby league city, so the Super League is pretty important here too.

In Central NY it's probably NCAA Basketball due to Syracuse being right here. We've loved the past few trips to the tournament being a fun spoiler and wearing that badge, but being champions again would send this town into a tizzy we haven't seen in nearly 20 years. Second choice is probably a Super Bowl because we've got a good contingent of Bills fans mostly it seems.

Stanley Cup. Nothing else is even close. If you had to pick a second, it’s probably the Grey Cup.

Until Knight's firing, the NCAA Title was all that mattered to Indiana.
Then Peyton came and the state started to bleed blue
