Why did the OP blame Jericho on something that was the camera mens fault? I’m confused what you mean by this? Are you talking about the camera showing him in top of the cage very clearly with the blade/razor in his hand? Or him very clearly smiling and chatting away with MJF while on the cage also? I mean, Jericho’s been a “tv wrestler” for close to 25 years.....if anyone k wow how production works, it’s him. Dude also during the picture and picture when MJF was laying dead in the cage, he just stood there smiling at the crowd for atleast 60-70 seconds clearly waiting for the cue to climb up when the audience returned from commercial break. Jericho knows when they are at commercial and would know when it’s Picture in Picture yet he just didn’t care. Honestly he seemed out of it or something.

I didn’t really notice the stuff I’ve seen mentioned, aside from obviously being slower, I thought Jericho was fine.

You can spin it though, I dont think it was kayfabe breaking. And even if it was for the crew, it's nice to know your guy didn't y know, get seriously hurt. And it would have been even better if the production crew for a major tv production didn’t, you know, catch it. I’d have the same critique of WWE. Damn, y’all find the wildest shit to complain about.

I’m glad you enjoyed the show, I did too, but I don’t think it’s that wild given tons of others brought it up. It’s not a minor spot during the match that I’m nitpicking.

Jericho landing on an obvious crash pad was lame but it didn't ruin other matches where it happened (Taker/HHH at Mania 17 being the most obvious example) and it didn't ruin this one either IMO. Beyond that his ringwork tonight was limited but fine - he didn't do much but he didn't really have to.

And w/ the comparisons to WWE, I agree with some have mentioned: we’ve become conditioned to expect that in WWE. Plus their production/quality control tends to be more efficient. With AEW, there’s been this expectation to “deliver” due to, quite frankly, the quality of the usual product. However, w/ the explosion snafu and with this, there might be a new level of expectation with these slightly elevated gimmick-y matches. And not necessarily a good one.

If Linda Hamilton can get in shape for a movie at over 60 Jericho can do it for wrestling at 50.

If Linda Hamilton can get in shape for a movie at over 60 Jericho can do it for wrestling at 50. It’s absolutely not the same. However I do wonder if there are specific reasons to maintain his shape or it’s simply a case of not wanting to shed weight.

Hell, I'll be honest, I haven't dug Jericho since the beginning of his AEW stint and that's besides the whole non-wrestling stuff. Him as a wrestler, as a character, nah he's been outta it for a while now. Even him beating Omega back when he first changed his finisher just didn't feel right to me but still I let it pass because, hey, he's Chris Jericho. He can go, he can pull things off. I dealt with it but since the Inner Circle started he's noticeably changed. He's slower, gotten fatter, ringwork not as good, just a different guy. His character work is pretty much what he's good for now. It's just gotten worse since then.
And that match, the match was good last night. Dope stuff from the talent. MJF is that dude. I just didn't like anything Jericho contributed to it. Wasn't believable. Hell that bump was Charmin soft. Like, no offense to older wrestlers, they're great but when its time it's time. I think Jericho has hit that point.
So yeah homie, you right. It is time. Have MJF have a singles match and write dude off Sammy becomes leader. Jericho need to transition into a pure backstage or pure managerial role rather than being seen as the leader. He ain't the wave anymore.

Seriously, this thread yet again??
Seems like every week after Dynamite lately there’s a “It’s time for Jericho to retire” thread
Time for an all purpose Jericho must retire thread imo

Honestly, when I read the title the first time, the thing that went through my mind was Bruce Buffer shouting "IT'S TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME" and I was mildly worried that Hager had talked Jericho into a freakshow fight on a Bellator show.

If a non wrestling show just accidentally showed their quick changes or staging being moved around or people putting their mics on offstage, people would laugh at how incompetent the show was. This is live wrestling TV. Their job is to not show us this shit. It isn't nitpicking. It is failure to meet a bare minimum.

This is live wrestling TV. Their job is to not show us this shit. It isn't nitpicking. It is failure to meet a bare minimum. While I agree being upset if you caught it, a lot of people who watched live and in the moment didn't until others may have pointed these things out because they were just invested into the match The production is still young and going through firsts, maybe they shouldn't have lingered on Jericho and MJF as much, but "failing to meet a bare minimum" is kind of a stretch. It's just something to learn for the next time they do it. I know the first few Hell in a Cell's weren't perfect for example. They NEVER bring up Michaels/Taker and when they bring up Foley well the damn roof collapsed when it wasn't supposed to... shit can happen, as you said it's live TV, and when a company decades of years old can mess up, for me it's hard to think a two year old company that has rose to the stage it has is going to be exempt from certain things that they won't have to adapt to and change in the future.

Jericho may be my GOAT but I also don't have the desire to watch him actually wrestle right now. Backstage bits? Commentary? Ads, why not??? He's entertaining. Either have him transition to a different role or just book him very sparingly and you're golden

This will probably be his last year as a featured full-time wrestler, he'll call it a day within the next year and move onto commmentary while working a rare match.

I raked Jericho over the coals for botching the mousetrap in the Orange Cassidy match.
This was fine. Production error, not performer error. Unless you literally wanted him to yeet himself off the cage like Mick Foley.

Jericho’s never really been a top ring worker guy to me. He’s always been a steady, dependable hand. A sixth guy in a six man match. His value has always been more as a mouthpiece. Even in WCW. Not many of his matches were “must see”. But promos like when he introduced all the competitors in that battle Royal or “the 1001 moves of Jericho” were must see. In WWF/E he was a steady mid-card hand and the only really good match was against HBK at Wrestlemania XIX.
I’ll always give him credit for one thing: he was always the one guy who’d ALWAYS wrestle the Monday after a pay per view. The main-event guys *cough*Triple H*cough* would just cut a promo or something.
What I’m trying to get at is he was never the top guy in the ring even in his prime. So now that he’s past his prime it’s expected that he not look very good. Plus 25+ of being that guy who always wrestled every night is obviously taking it’s toll.
