I think the reasons Dave mentioned are more plausible. When you run the same market on a weekday, you're pulling from a few thousand at most at this point. You just ran a big show last week and have a PPV coming up on a holiday weekend. People might not want to go to a show in back to back weeks and probably are saving up for Double or Nothing. They've also not run weekly partly for this reason.

I haven't followed the numbers, but even with the reduced crowds they would still be saying that tickets were still available days before.
What that means, I don't know. Maybe it's Covid, maybe the people of Jacksonville just take weekly AEW for granted at this point so they don't bother going every week, etc.

Important to remember as well that WWF used to run a similar schedule at the Manhattan Center. They figured they'd always draw since it was NYC. But anytime you run the same location over and over, you're going to see drops in attendance unless you do something major like Blood and Guts or a PPV.

This is a news story because people can salivate over AEW not being a draw, no matter what reasonable explanation is given. The anti-AEW article market is just getting bigger and bigger.
It's a pandemic, they have a PPV and a major event between, Meltzer even talked about that. They just hit #1 on TV. Come on now. A non-story.

Not everything is Anti-Aew
Logic says you run the same place over and over, you're not always going sell it out. What was stated was factual and not even negative

yeah, it's very close to Double or Nothing in that same building and you just had a big crowd for Blood and Guts. People are waiting for DoN tickets to go on sale first.

Does it even matter?! Crowd rarely shown & small number can still make noise & create atmosphere

I thought it was a pretty common problem in Florida to not have people show up when it comes to local events. Unless it's like a big one off. Because there's such a huge crowd of immigrants and pensioners over there.
Also, while not dealing directly with covid, there's still the worry about finances regarding the pandemic and the thought of spending wisely so you might wanna see DON live, but seeing dynamite on telly is alright as well.

I guess it’s understandable. They’ve run there for over a year straight. It would make sense when they start touring is to not go there again for a full year. Make a big deal about it and how it holds a special place in AEW. But I’d imagine if you ran any weekly shows all year around at the same place, you’re going to have people take you for granted.

imgur.com/gallery/cWow0In all seriousness, I see a lot of posts about people paying for hotel rooms before DoN tickets have even gone on sale 🤣. How gutting would that be if you never got a ticket? I expect them to sell pretty quick

Something to consider might be that AEW generally runs events every other week. People may not even be aware that there is a live show this week, thinking that this week is a pre-tape. Granted, they probably announced next week's show during the Blood and Guts taping, but if people are budgeting their live events, they may not be able to swing this extra show they didn't know would happen.

The show that was just number one on cable this week having one gate that might not sell out, probably due to people waiting for the full capacity Double or Nothing to have tickets go on sale? After selling out their highest capacity event in a year for a live ONE MATCH show? I have to say I doubt it.

I mean AEW cares about ticket sales in that it would be nice for TV to have a larger crowd to make more noise and also to have a higher gate. But those are also very marginal and I doubt anyone there is losing sleep over this.

Khan's gone on record saying gate is nice for AEW and having good gate draws is nice, but the bulk of their revenue stream is from TNT and the deal which they have given them. PPV Buys and Gate attendance are gravy.

There were about 1,573 tickets put on sale for Wednesday's show and thus far 777 remain according to Meltzer. That's honestly not terrible. It will probably end up around 850-1000 which will be around 20% capacity. Probably on the lower end of what they've done but nothing out of this world.

Eh, it's going to happen when you run the same venue over and over again. WWF had a similar issue when they ran the Manhattan Center back in the day. Probably why they want to start touring again this summer: get some fresh eyes on the product.
It's probably one of the major benefits to TNA running Impact for so long out of Universal Studios. Lots of tourists from all over the world to entice into a free TV taping the days they'd tape shows.

We've just had almost 12 months with next to no ppl. Any sized crowd is good. I remember when about 500 were allowed back & that was a big improvement
