And others from that era (except saved by the bell the new class surprisingly, which sucks because nbc.com took it off their website)
Man,
Hang time City guys Malibu ca California dreams Student bodies
Oh man, I don’t like these shows enough to binge buy now I got months of not years worth of things to put on on the background on a weekend morning stuff to watch. These plus tiny toons and animaniacs on Hulu, giving me those nostalgic Saturday morning feels.
Anyways, a few observations
Man malibu sucked as bad as I remember but I forgot how pretty the girls were. I think they were the prettiest. Fitting since this cast was probably the oldest “teenagers” of this group. Them and USA high.
Speaking of USA high, I forgot how huge of a crush I had on that English girl. This entire cast looks so familiar, and I swear seen them on other things but their IMDb says otherwise. That Italian New York kid looks someone I’d have seen on Becker or hang time before. That Jackson guy, reminds me of Titus. Now I know I’ve seen that chick Winnie on fresh prince so even then I wondered how old she was.
It’s funny that they reused the entire set for a season fo saved by the bell but in no way said anything that made it sound like it was in the same universe. It’s funny that show must have ended before saved by the bell despite starting 4 years later. I’m pretty sure I remember Tony from California dreams becoming a character. Unless I’m thinking of living single

Out of those, I only remember City Guys and California Dreams. I've never e en heard of the others, and I remember the TNBC thing.

So today I’m watching the first episodes of city guys and hang time
Hang time:
I totally do not remember that super slow and soft theme song Man this cast was forgettable. This one guy I swear is 30. Usually I see that I’m extras but not the actual main cast
Though they do mention that some of them are juniors and the others are not so there’s an age disparity. I thought it was saved by the bell the new class but apparently it was this show that would write people off by just saying they graduated. I still laugh that sometimes they just “joined another team” or “quit because their grades were slipping” and were never seen again. It’s they’re dead to their friends for leaving the team
City guys
I remember this being a much better show than the others but it’s quite saved by the bell ish in the “who does that?!” Moments.
The principal yells at them to go to class, them takes them to their class without asking what class they’re taking, then ends up teaching the class and reads their permanent records in front of the class. Also she mentions that the main characters are at least juniors. This show ran for 4 years

Student Bodies? Sweet Jesus I loved that show, haven’t seen it since about 1999 I just like it because it aired Sunday at noon When you don’t hVe cable and dvr didn’t exist yet, I was always fascinated when I found first run scripted programming on Sunday morning or Saturday afternoon. Like whenever sports would force tnbc on Sunday or that one time that fox kids had to air on Sunday I was home skipping church to watch X men and the Tick

- Of the TNBC shows after Saved by the Bell, I'd rank California Dreams, City Guys and Hang Time as the best. California Dreams ended after 5 seasons, the last 3 seasons with no cast changes and probably ended before it got stale and ran out of ideas.
- Hang Time stuck around too long IMO, every year it was new people and it was hard to keep up. It wasn't originally a Peter Engel(SBTB creator) show, it was from a different production company so that's why it had that slower theme song. Then for the second season, it was given to Engel and we got a more TNBC style theme.
- City Guys was actually a pretty good. I think of all the finales for these shows, it had the best one.
- I watched Malibu CA, it's definitely corny, but I enjoyed it as a kid, most likely because, yeah, the actresses were all really attractive. I particularly remember the first season main girl, Sam, was my favorite.
- Student Bodies also had a good looking cast. From it's initial syndication run in 1999, the only thing I remember is the animated opening and theme song. It's a real earworm. But I rewatched it about 10 years ago in 2010 on youtube and it held up pretty well. They did some changes after the first season, most were fine, but they changed the opening to be Friends-like.
- USA High wasn't shown on my NBC affiliate, I only saw it on USA Channel when I hung out at my friend's house. It seemed inconsistently on because I never seemed to catch it when I was home. I do remember the English girl character was played by Kristen Miller from She Spies and other shows. Your memory is correct, Tony did join the second season according to wikipedia. Its crazy it's Season 1 had 75 episodes. In more Engel-verse synergy, Winnie from USA High would join Malibu CA in it's second season.

Malibu, CA wasn't on TNBC. It was a first-run syndication show. It was produced by Peter Engel and NBC, though, as was USA High. Anyway, last year I watched the episodes and they don't hold up as well but they were passable, especially with the attractive women in the cast. I can't get over how that show had a Playmate in the cast.
I also found the obscure/forgotten ones on YouTube when they aired in the dying days of TNBC, which was in 2001-2002. All About Us, SK8, and Just Deal came in when NBC was about to pull the plug on that block. I actually enjoyed All About Us as it was the final TNBC show produced by Peter Engel. What was weird about that one was that it was shot like a traditional sitcom with multiple cameras but it didn't have a laugh track.

I also remember that show one world but I don’t want to sift through all the weird stuff you find when you search for that name. I do remember that one Asian daughter with the Eastern European name showing up on Titus as the brother’s girlfriend because he had an Asian fetish USA high was made for USA network when they got the rights to saved by the new class reruns. I remember it being funny because it ran head to head with tbs reruns of original saved by the bell

Yeah, Malibu CA wasn't on TNBC lineup. Some NBC stations might have aired it on Saturdays after the regular TNBC. But for me, I watched it on Sundays on WPIX11, a non-NBC affiliate. Aside from the attractive actresses, I remember the lead characters had the N64 Jungle Green see-through version that I thought was really cool back in the day.
One World was an okay show, about a family of adopted and foster kids. I remember Season 1 ended when the adopted son and the new foster girl kissed. The next season opened with him living on his own and dating the foster girl, but they break up and he moves back in. All That's Alisa was part of the cast.
Just Deal and SK8 was TNBC's venture into teen dramedy type shows.

It shouldn't hurt for Peacock to add some of these shows to their lineup. I would like to see some other episodes again that aren't on YouTube.
There is another YouTube channel that has been uploading Saturday morning blocks, as well as mixed ones that the person calls "Channel Surfing Edition." I even found the old NBC cartoon block from earlier.

Back hell 10 years ago or maybe a bit more was given disc images of 3 Sat AM cartoon blocks.
One was CBS in the 80s,back when Saturday Supercade aired, with all the commercials,I think it was 4 hours, another was ABC 89. And the last was I think 95,maybe 96,FoxKids.

I didn’t realize until I listened to the Go Bayside podcast that Peter Engel really loves him some brunettes. Either the main character or love interest of the main character
Saved by the bell Kelly That nurse Tori Stacy Lindsey (new class)
Watching Malibu Ca and it’s amazing that the hot blonde friend is treated as the lesser one who’s thirsty as hell and the guys don’t want her
Same with USA high. That blonde British girl.
California dream, Jennie was supposed to be main girl that Jake falls for when Tiffany is right there

Also, I know that Matt’s sister left California dreams at the beginning of the second season but I always thought it was weird it was only two episodes and yet they still went to trouble of filming her in the credits for the theme song
Also, I didn’t know until years later that Jenny Kwan was Filipina. Her and Tia Carrere, I knew there was something about them that didn’t quite look Chinese despite it being their characters

California dream, Jennie was supposed to be main girl that Jake falls for when Tiffany is right there Regarding the blonde on Malibu, CA, are you talking about Stads, the normal girl? Or are you talking about Traycee, the hot blonde bimbo? Regarding Traycee, I know I am repeating myself, but I can't get over how a Playboy Playmate was hired for a show like that, but then again a lot of girls (and guys, including one of the main characters, who had shirtless scenes; it might have been because he was rather ripped) showed a lot of skin. I wonder if that was one reason that the show was syndicated. There was the brunette, Sam, in the first season but she left after it had ended. I read some comments for some episodes on YouTube that the actress planned to leave, which was probably why she didn't have a long-term relationship on the show. Then came the black girl Lisa and the other girl Alex, both of whom were attractive. I recall Lisa hooking up with one of the main characters. Also, City Guys had Cassidy, who was a blonde, and also Dawn, who was a brunette. Cassidy hooked up with Chris halfway through the show's run, while Dawn dated Al, the short Filipino guy. So I'm not sure if the whole thing about brunettes was the case here.

I mean, I enjoy watching attractive blondes as much as the next guy, and the British girl on USA High was a super cutie. But when it comes to actual dating & relationships, I tend to be more attracted to brunettes. Just guessing, but maybe that was also Engel’s experience in his dating years too, and he felt that was more true to life for the average joe.

Considering how much thought was usually put in the writing for these shows, I don't think much thought was given about the hair color. In New Class, Lindsey was the main girl in the first season, but the second season had Rachel become the love interest to the new main guy Brian and then the next new guy Ryan in season 3 and 4. Malibu CA, both Sam and Stads are really hot so if the actors swapped roles, a viewer would still wonder why no one would date an obviously attractive Sam.
Jake was introduced to be Jennie's love interest since Jennie was a main character from the first season first. Then when the actress left, they pivoted to Tiffany.

Watching Student bodies in order. There were a lot of episodes I missed due to church and sports pre emption, so this pretty much new programming for me.
Anyways, man this show is still pretty likable. Though, I’m suprised that the theme song lists so many people as main cast but there’s several episodes where some of them aren’t even mentioned. They seems more like occasions reoccurring guest characters. I’m on the 5th episode on that girl grace finally shows up. And that other guy I didn’t see until the 4th. Also, hey one of them is the kid from Are you afraid of the dark.
