The older a fan I get, the more I realise it's probably Nightwing that suits a Bat family better than Bruce. I'd just have Bruce and Selina retire and make babies and make the franchise all about Dick, but just as Nightwing, not as a Batman successor. So you want to take Batman out of Batman? Assuming they aren't hiding something...isn't that what that upcoming Gotham Knights game is doing?

And for the record I'm not saying you can't do stories of the other Bat Family members without Batman. I'm saying permanently removing Batman from the Batman franchise makes no sense.

I'm not looking for a repeat of 'Battle For The Cowl', but yeah, maybe have a whole phase without a Batman title going (outside of continuity-free anthologies), obviously I could not keep that going forever, but everyone deserves a chance to replenish their batteries I'd most certainly take the edge out of Batman. Make him more silver-agey and light again. More like the current Scooby/Batman comics.

And I don't think Batman needs to be know it all Bat Dick, but not having him be dark sort of defeats the appeal of the character. He's a dark character in a universe of brightly clad people trying to be ultra heroic role models and stuff.

Brave and the Bold and The Batman were 'dark' to some degrees, but they maintained a more wholesome and significantly lighter touch I just feel Batman now is just increasingly bleak and getting more and more depressing, it hasn't affected Damien despite his own little 'dark' turns, and the current Robin book is great

It's a valid opinion of the character. I'm just saying it'll never happen, at least anytime soon. The average person likes Batman because he's dark. There's a reason he's DC's top character. If you like lighter characters read Shazam comics and stuff.

I mean for a while Bat-Girl and Harley Quinn was outselling the regular Batman books >_> and then DC decided that they should treat all books like that... and tanked their sales due to HQ's sorta half in continuity style

If you like lighter characters read Shazam comics and stuff. I do. But the last Shazam title bombed, so I can't. That's pretty much my point. It was a well written fun comic by Geoff Johns (the biggest name writer DC has) and not enough people read it. Meanwhile, Batman continues to sell regardless of whatever hack they put on the book as long as they keep him dark and badass. So why make Batman comics like the comics that won't sell?

So you want to take Batman out of Batman? Assuming they aren't hiding something...isn't that what that upcoming Gotham Knights game is doing? That's what it seems like as Batman and Jim Gordon are seemingly dead in that game. Granted, Batgirl is fulfilling the gameplay niche Batman usually has in the Arkham games (despite this not being in the Arkham continuity). Red Hood, Robin, and Nightwing have distinct playstyles.

Plus, additional DLC characters will certainly have their own styles, like Batwoman potentially using her military background extensively.

To be fair, the book was constantly delayed (everything Johns wrote around the time suffered from this), and missed the momentum of the movie.

Batman only needs Alfred.

Robin. Batgirl, and Nightwing are all great character archetypes but when I think of my favorite Batman stories they usually just involve him operating alone with Alfred and Jim Gordon providing support.

Batman only needs Alfred. While I am not saying you're wrong for seeing things that way, I do find it interesting since Alfred was a later addition to the Batman mythos. Heck, IIRC, he didn't debut until AFTER Robin debuted.
