Man, I literally just got done watching this youtube minutes before this thread was posted. But yes, this is show is fun from what I remember. I'm definitely curious as to how some of the episodes compare plot and dialogue wise when it comes to the whole redubbing thing. And I dunno, he kinda looks like a rat to me so I can see it.

the thing i don't get about this show is, it first aired in Japan in 1990, its then dubbed in America and shown in the UK in 1991, but isn't aired in America until 1996? why the long gap?

So if there's a TvC2 we could get the Pizza Cats now? Someone tell Capcom to get to work!

I never watched this because I had an attitude toward all the Ninja Turtle wannabes of the 90's. Street Sharks, PizA Cats, etc. Even Battletoads are just the Punk Frogs without clothes.

Even Battletoads are just the Punk Frogs without clothes. Battletoads was actually written by the head writer of TMNT.

Even Battletoads are just the Punk Frogs without clothes. Battletoads was actually written by the head writer of TMNT. The head writer (NOT CREATOR) of the TMNT wrote the one episode of the Battletoads cartoon that never became a series. And he didn't create the Battletoads either. So even if he did in fact create the Punk Frogs he didn't create Battletoads. Battletoads is still a TMNT ripoff.

Pizza Cats couldn't be further from TMNT or it's various ripoffs, tonally. The show is a joke with characters openly calling their own writers and animators lazy and inept, while wishing they could be on a better show. It leans closers to Animaniacs or Rocky and Bullwinkle than anything else.

I always remember the ads were so ham-fisted about being better than other franchises, and little-kid me always hated that. I liked those shows, and a show talking trash on the shows I liked made me not like it before I ever saw an episode.
I did end up watching a few episodes. Too long ago for me to even remember much of anything from them, though.

The dub theme staright-up song calls out TMNT. "They have more fur than any turtle ever had" Unless I'm mistaken, the episode that clip came from had the narrator call that a retirement home for Ninja Turtles.

Well, yes... Isn't that what we've been discussing here? On that same note, TMNT wasn't a cultural phenomenon in Japan to a point of it needing to be ripped off for that audience. Ninja-themed manga and anime were already exceptionally common. And it was still a comedy show there, too.

From the theme song and first episode, respectively, and I never liked them. They're so unstuble, I feel like they might've been lines that an executive insisted on including early on. A exchange in a later episode better reflects the self-depreciating nature of the show. Narrator: Our heroes will be back for another episode! Unless of course, they get a better offer from another producer. Speedy: We're just waiting to hear from our agent about a big movie deal! Narrator: That's the one where you wear the turtle costumes, right?

This thread got me watching the first episode on VRV.
There was one joke that was clearly for the parents that was actually pretty funny.
There’s a mechanical dragon terrorizing the city, and The Big Cheese, in is civilian guise suggests that if they elect the dragon Vice President, they’ll never see it again.
And yeah, I really don’t know where they got Big Cheese being a rat from. He is very clearly a fox.

Sad there was no mention in the video of my favorite character from the series: Lucille the off again on again girl friend of Speedy and/or Guido whom was a robotic sheep that shot Macross styled missiles out of her hair.
Also the video game was pretty good for a licensed title and a shame it didn't reach Western shores.

For anybody curious, Crunchyroll has both the original version with English subtitles as well as the dub version.
