It's interesting the Games boss is staying considering it wasn't exactly a secret that they were looking to sell the games division not long ago. The Snyder bros aren't taking the Emmerich news well. The general thought is that anybody who doesn't have an experienced counterpart in Discovery's staff is safe for the time being, so with Discovery not having movie and games divisions it makes sense to keep the bulk existing management on until replacements can be found or the division can be sold off.

Discovery simply don't have a ready-made replacement for him. The success of Aquaman, The Batman (despite Snyderites' insistence that it's underperforming) and the strong viewing figures and critical success of Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad should work in his favour when his position is evaluated, as will – ironically – the more modest success of the Snyder Cut.

Yeah, the Cult desperately wanted Sarnoff and Kilar's exits to be related to their Precious, when the truth is, they only ended up out because the merger rendered their particular positions obsolete. "Head of DC Films" is not really a position that should be affected by the merger until the new bosses actually settle in.

It can also be said that releasing the Snyder Cut contributed to Kilar's fate. Zaslav is reportedly unhappy with the performance of HBO Max compared to the amount spent on it, and the Snyder Cut going from being release-ready to requiring $30 million to complete and then getting an additional $40 million on top of that is not likely to be viewed favourably.

He also had the success of Shazam, and Joker. Harley Quinn underperformed but that could be somewhat blamed on COVID kicking into gear not long after it's release, and Wonder Woman 1984 had to deal with being released before a vaccine was available, but it did big streaming numbers and was the number 1 sold home video of 2021. Things have been looking up for them since Snyder left and after Justice League.

The merger is officially done. And the logo doesn’t look like a lazy clip art mess so hooray!

Its almost as though spending 70 million dollars on a directors cut of a movie most people thought sucked was.a bad idea...

That's what happens when you listen to a mob that makes its internet presence seem larger than it really is thanks to abusing social media algorithms.
Well, that and when you're desperate for new content during a pandemic.

Let's not forget that main reason for the desperation was that many of the movies they intended to use for the HBO Max rollout had been put on pause during the pandemic, but the totes finished Snyder Cut required so much in post-production that it ended up dropping on the streaming site a year later, sandwiched in-between those same films paused during the pandemic, films it was clearly meant to supplement.

One day I’d love to have a discussion that doesn’t sidetrack into a Synder Cut borefest.
Just once. As a treat.
