So cool seeing Nick Gage have his moment in a major promotion.
His story hits on a personal level for me. Haven’t felt this way watching wrestling in a long time, if ever.
Love his redemption.

So, uh, is Nick Gage vs Jerry Lawler the only match between two guys that had already died? Potentially. Rikishi is also in that department. He was clinically dead for like six minutes after a heart attack if I remember right. I thought it was after the drive-by? I might be conflating things.

After watching the DOTR episode and watching his interview with Chris van Vliet, couldn’t be happier for the guy. I think he’s earned this moment. I hope he kills it. Jericho’s probably the perfect dance partner for it too.

That's two careers Dark Side of the Ring seems to have helped this year (Pillman Jr. and Nick Gage)
They've both seemingly been much hotter since getting their own shine on the show itself. AEW definitely knows a lot of the wrestling fandom watches it.

Sting. My words were something like “Why would AEW sign Sting? That’d be silly.” By weird, I take it you mean awesome, right? Absolutely.

Also, can we talk about how, in a 72 hour period, Nick Gage is going to have matches with Matt Cardona and Chris Jericho?

This is seriously the second thread someone’s done where someone’s asked a question and I immediately looked at the topic and went “That’s stupid, why would that guy turn up?” And then they turn up because wrestling is weird right now. Soooo....Tell me...You surely think Lufisto showing up there would be really weird, right?

Yeah, a lot of people might not realize this, but MJF spent a good amount of time in the deathmatch world, working his formative years in places like CZW and later GCW, even if he's never been an actual deathmatch guy. Him being able to contact and come to an agreement with Gage actually makes sense, even though the two characters very likely despise each other. "I hate you." "I will give you money." "I hate you slightly less." "I'll buy you a mattress"

Imagine what he would do for $10k in front of 10,000 people.

The thing that surpasses the surprise of him appearing is the surprise of that big pop he got from the audience. I wasn't expecting that from the crowd. And that pizza cutter really added to the moment, like a cherry on top.
This world we live in, man.

AEW as a whole has always felt like someone's ridiculously unrealistic TEW game playing out in real life. "Oh, so your user avatar is the son of a billionaire and you're a massive pro wrestling fan, so you have enough resources to instantly debut a national wrestling show on TNT?" Sure. "Oh, you have Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, and even Chris Jericho on board?" *eye roll* "Dean Ambrose has jumped to your upstart little company?" Sure, buddy. "You now have working agreements with NJPW and IMPACT? Yuji Nagata is going to main event your TV show?" Super realistic there, pal. "You just brought in Nick Gage to fight Chris Jericho in a no holds barred match on national TV?" Come on man... But like, it's real life and man do I love it.

I think that in a spot like this the legend of Nick Gage works really well. I’m all for the guy getting a payday since he seems to have turned it around but I can’t imagine having to find a way to book him weekly to maintain that aura of danger without it coming across as wack.
Should be a good match and smart to pair him with Jericho who will be able to reign him in enough to have a good match that will still be able to come close to the hype.
AEW is some bizarro world fantasy booking and it’s kind of amazing. The more different promotions and wrestlers that they work with the more isolated that the WWE becomes and who would want to work there when you could be on National tv weekly and still working for other promotions and doing your own thing instead of an old, out of touch, no clue having Vince controlling every aspect of your character, gimmick, name, where you can work, and what you can do?

Oh man I hope they protect Gage by having him turn on MJF during next week's match. So Chris still advances but Gage doesn't have to get beat cleanly day one. Set up a future feud with MJF, which could be money as they are polar opposites in every way.

I'm very excited that Gage is getting a shot but I'm not totally thrilled by the idea of the Chris Jericho of today beating him at his own game. I hope there's some sort of storyline reason for it that involves MJF getting a pizza cutter to the head.
