How would they have been booked? I mean you had Big Bossman come back in 1998 and rather than have him dress like a typical cop, you had him dress like a SWAT guy. John Tenta came in and was given a whole new character as Golga in the Oddities, a character who was obsessed with Cartman from South Park. I get it, South Park was huge at that time (I mean, hell, even some signs were made referencing it, as well as the New Age Outlaws wearing South Park shirts at times). But could anybody else have worked? I even remember reading how Yokozuna was still under contract in 1998 but was out so that he could try to drop a lot of weight. But would he have fit in during that time? Granted, the New Generation Era wasn't that far behind but when comparing the New Generation Era and the Attitude Era, it was almost like night and day.
But others, I am not sure how they would have fit. Even when The Patriot was around in 1997, I thought he was a bit out of place as Attitude was slowly starting to surface at that time.
What are your thoughts? Do you think some could have gotten an overhaul or go under different gimmicks?

They succeeded with redoing The Patriot for the Attitude Era.

Rick Martel could've definitely made a more risque version of the Model character work in the late 90s if he didn't go to WCW.

Duke the Dumpster Droese could have been perfect for the hardcore division.

Nailz would be the man to complete Droz's stable of dudes who sell drugs to children. Techno Team 2000 would be sad industrial boys and we'd all be talking about when Eric Watts was Trent Reznor.

Yokozuna could have been repackaged with a Yakuza style gimmick like they were gonna do with Tajiri, but he turned down for fear of pissing off the real organization.
Honky Tonk man might have been changed to a Grunge, or Nu Metal style gimmick.
Jake the Snake if he was clean could have been teamed up with Val Venis using a different Snake.
Bam Bam Bigelow would have been given a T-shirt and leather jacket and made a Corporate enforcer for Vince.
King Kong Bundy might have been kept around until 99 as a pre-Big Show Big Show and jobbed out to said Big Show before being given his walking papers

Honky Tonk Man would keep the Elvis gimmick mixed with the European Technobilly thing, so he’d be a bit of Alex Wright plus a little Jerry Lawler and a bit raunchier

Warlord could have returned as the Whorelord and feuded with The Godfather over who controlled the pimping territory of the WWF.
Brutus “the Barber” Beefcake could have returned as Brutus “the Beautician” Beefcake and gave people a free waxing after knocking them out with the sleeper.

Alternatively : TT 2000 are Trance/Hardhouse candy-ravers and end up in Albert and Droz's drug circle. While Lawler (and let's face it, probably JR, too) makes inappropriate/offensive remarks about them that would never fly today.

Cesaro in the Hardcore division goes full 007 mode, complete with cool cars and fun gadgets to knock out opponents with. Hell, give him a nice wig, too!
(Edit: Sorry, you said past. Still be fun.)

Someone wrote this fan fiction of an Attitude era Warrior running wild on everyone. Randomly interrupting matches, attacking people in the crowd, Lilian Garcia etc and leading Vince and Austin to put their differences aside and team up to stop him.
I think it would’ve been awesome.

A club kid / raver stable - Special K - eventually made it to ROH in 2002 and featured a very young Jay Lethal.

I think you could basically do the crazy Bob Backlund again almost the exact same way in '99-'01 and it would work just as well. Put him with RTC. He was even around at the time and could definitely still go. It would if anything be even more over as an edgeless old guy in the Attitude Era than in the New Gen.

It felt so weird when guys like Animal, Tatonka, and Jim Duggen popped up in WWE in the early to mid 00s.
I couldn’t see these guys in attitude era at all, they would stink out like sore thumbs.

Duke the Dumpster Droese could have been perfect for the hardcore division. Based on the stories we've heard. His wing man would probably be Vic Grimes who would be renamed "The Dealer" or "The Supplier".

They succeeded with redoing The Patriot for the Attitude Era. Now, that's what you call a real hero! Granted, he was a massive dork, but he's a loveable dork!
On topic: I know Bret Hart was around for the very beginning of the Attitude Era, but it would've been cool to see his character evolve had he stayed around.

Well, Animal was around in the Attitude Era when both of the Legion of Doom/The Road Warriors were there in 1997-1998.

It’s amazing looking back. The Attitude Era (and wrestling in general) was basically ashamed of the 80s/early 90s and wanted to rid the “stench” of it completely off their TV, yet here we are in today’s society where nostalgia for the 80s/90s (in every form of entertainment) is viewed more favorably than anything over the last 20 years.
