I’m trying to think of a British example of this, and the closest is Matt Le Tissier. A fantastic creative midfielder who could’ve easily fit into one of the top teams of the day, but due to homesickness played out his career at mid table strugglers Southampton.

Arguably the English striker of the 90s, joined his boyhood club Newcastle and never won a thing again. Not like they were a terrible side but he should have a wing of his house for trophies.

I'll start with an easy one. Detroit Lions: - Barry Sanders - Calvin Johnson Nope on Barry Sanders, and his playoff numbers explain why.

You could argue Steven Gerrard, possibly the most gifted English player of his generation & without a doubt the best English player of the Premier League era to not win the league. Yes he won a Champions League, FA Cups & other trophies but the Premier League is the one that fans want, especially Liverpool fans.

Kevin Garnett in Minnesota.
The shady contract stuff with Joe Smith that cost them 5 or 6 draft picks.

Kevin Garnett in Minnesota. The shady contract stuff with Joe Smith that cost them 5 or 6 draft picks. It's funny. You see lots of these younger guys deciding when to call it quits and demand a trade. Like Love for example. He spent about only half the time of KG in Minnesota before he called it again. Spending 11 years with one team feels ancient to these younger guys. I'm glad he got a title before he got too old.

TWolves and wasting All Star Talent, name a more iconic duo I still can't forgive them for this. 2009 Draft: Ricky Rubio and Jonny Flynn. Left on the board: Curry, DeRozan, Holiday.......... cringe............

Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, and Carlos Zambrano SHOULD have amounted to much much more, stupid injuries, stupid Dusty Baker, stupid Cubs inventing new ways to lose baseball games....

Grant Hill in Detroit never made it out of the first round in six years (and four playoff appearances).

2 pages and no one has pointed out the Seattle Mariners wasting the talents of Ken Griffy Jr, Edgar Martinez, Ichiro Suzuki, King Felix, and not their primes but they also had Arod and Randy Johnson and they did absolutely nothing. 116 wins means nothing with no ring just ask the Pats and 16-0.
Also some from my beloved Jets; Curtis Martin, Brick, Mangold, and Revis

It still kinda depresses me that Ray Bourque had to be traded to Colorado to finally win a Stanley Cup. I can only imagine how many more accolades Dominik Hasek would have achieved if he weren't constantly stuck dragging the Buffalo Sabres along by their noses. Could have been worse, he could have been stuck in Chicago yet.

Hard to argue Trout isn't a victim of this. Best player of his generation and the Angels do nothing to help him win. Othani is great and all but more pitching would be wonderful. Just as much Trout's fault. He chose to resign for 426 million when he could have taken less and went somewhere he can win.

Enjoy that cash money, but I'll be hard pressed to feel for him when he's on the list of great players who never won jack

I'll start with an easy one. Detroit Lions: - Barry Sanders - Calvin Johnson Nope on Barry Sanders, and his playoff numbers explain why. That doesn't explain his prime not being wasted at all. They never surrounded him with real talent, and it's easy to key on a RB in the playoffs. Look at Payton's numbers, look at Bettis', look at Curtis Martin's in New York, look at Tiki Barber when he was an All-Pro. Stacking the box doesn't mean you're not the real deal, it means your QB isn't.

Grant Hill in Detroit never made it out of the first round in six years (and four playoff appearances). Not only that his last year in Detroit was where he injured his ankle right before the playoffs and continued to play on it until he just couldn’t anymore He was never really the same and didn’t really manage to get healthy again until he was past what would have been left of his prime. He only played 47 games in the next four seasons with Orlando and only played more than 30 games twice in the 7 years he was with the Magic. He’s the reason I’ll never judge to harshly players that sit out with an injury others think they can play through. I still wonder sometimes how different that era of Magic basketball could of been with a healthy Grant Hill next to McGrady.
