www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=147998Among various other trademarks, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce have filed for the name The IInspiration. I think that's actually a really good team name. It's immediately apparent seeing it who it is but there's room to grow it into something more distinct from the IIconics.

Ooohhh yeah, that is a fantastic name change. If they manage to hang on to the double I, it really leaves no question as to who it is, but even without that, it's a great team name and a fountain of catchphrases. It's really easy to imagine how the name could inform their whole act.

I like the name more than I liked IIconics as a name, actually.

They have to go to AEW now for TK to pay for the Inspiration song. Them coming out to that would be AWESOME!

But legally, is it something that would hold water?

I don’t see any way they could claim ownership of the “II.” They could probably claim the artwork for the “II” logo if they previously trademarked that. But the Patent & Trademark Office, in the US at least, generally wouldn’t go for trademarking a two-letter sequence, unless that two-letter sequence was the full brand name, which isn’t the case here. Now I could see WWE making the argument that the IInspiration name is too close to the IIconics name in the realm of professional wrestling. In fact, I kind of expect them to argue along that line. But even that probably isn’t going to fly with the USPTO. Outside of the “II,” the names are too different.

Yeah, it seems like they’ll have to try and cast it as a Lanham Act sort of claim to the effect of “the use of ‘II’ at the beginning of a ring name will cause confusion amongst the public as to the origin of this wrestling show.” Or, worded differently, they’d have to convince a Court that the average consumer would think they were watching WWE instead of whatever company Peyton and Billie end up working for simply because they are using a ring name that starts with two Is. Seems almost impossible to me. Plus, “Christian” got away with being “Christian Cage.” “Eugene” got away with being “U-Gene.” That just doesn’t seem like one WWE will bother fighting.

In retrospect, WWE changing NXT's Iconic Duo to the IIconics for the trademark when they got called up actually helped them in this respect.

I loved the IIconics, so I'm really excited to see where they end up, and I'm glad it looks like they'll probably remain a team together.
