Why? It would highlight the idea that there's no one good enough in the WWE right now to beat Reigns, so the WWE has to bring back someone who has left to do it.
Why not Batista?
Why not The Rock?
Why not Hogan?

Here’s the thing. Ric Flair’s matches and overall career will still be fondly remembered by wrestling fans forever. What John Cena matches will be? Hell, I was in the audience in Chicago for Cena’s debut against Kurt Angle. But I struggle to come up with many famous matches he’s been in.
To me, Cena’s career highlights were getting merked at ONS, losing to The Rock, that RR return, and…that’s about it.
He was a corporate creation through and through and while he does genuinely seem to be one of the nicest dudes in wrestling, despite a decade+ push, has made less of a lasting impression than Warrior or Sid.
So…nah

Cena's a great talent whom put on some fantastic matches and cut damn good promos when he was allowed to be serious.
But quite frankly unless he's going in a new direction as a wrestler, I have very little interest in him winning the belt to either pad out his reigns or to give TV a temporary shot in the arm that will go away when he leaves anyway. There's a lot of elements in WWE that are remarkably stale, but bringing in someone whom was the definition of stale 5 years ago doesn't really feel like an ideal solution no matter how much nostalgia people may have for him now.
Simply put I just don't think him showing up in a new colorful shirt, doing another variation of his "fine speech" promo to either heel champion, and basically being a big TV presence for two-three months before going back to Hollywood is really that appealing.

So…nah Cena vs. Cesaro, AJ Styles, the Summerslam match with Bryan, his street fight with Eddie Guerrero, his Punk matches (especially the one in 2013), his Edge feud, the HBK matches,, Sami Zayn, PAC and the US challenge, Kevin Owens? The criminally underrated I Quit match with Orton? Those aren’t memorable? And every wrestler on the planet is a “corporate creation”. Can we please quit acting like Cena is any different than Punk or Bryan in that regard? Since everything is pre determined?

Sure and while they’re at it, why not bring back Tito Santana and give him another run with the IC title

He's not had a lot of matches I'd go out of my way to re-watch, but he's had some ok matches.

Hell, you know who has won the most Golden Snowcones for “Best Match Of The Year”, as voted by this board? Cena. Four times. Punk in 2011, Lesnar in 2012, Bryan in 2013, Styles in 2016. The only other multiple time winners are Bryan and Reigns (twice each).

Not to mention that, for all the times WWE tries to do the "super face versus monster heel" setup, two really good ones were Cena versus Umaga and Cena versus Khali. Not like it's shocking for Umaga to have good matches, but the Khali one was much better than it had any right to be. Obviously, Cena had some major misses, too, but "Big Match John" did turn in some matches that stand up to repeated viewing. Also enjoyed his HBK feud.

So…nah This is absolute nonsense, friend. There's a thread elsewhere on this very subforum about the 10th anniversary of a promo building up to a reasonably acclaimed match of his, for example?

I mean the only reason people talk about Nexus Wade Barrett being a main event heel was because Cena made him look THAT good. Wade was super green at that point and every single non-Cena match he had were very not good.
