A quarter century of Austin 3:16! What are your memories of this show and where were you when you first saw it? How do you feel about it, and the whole KOTR tournament, now?
I think an interesting aspect that gets overlooked is how well booked the tournament was to feel like there were so many possible winner. Three prominent wreslers (Vader, Marc Mero and Justin Hawk Bradshaw) all took their first WWF losses in the tournament

I wasn't too hot on the tournament itself, legendary promo aside, but it did have a gritty feel to it.
Did I think the Austin 3:16 promo had the impact it did when I first watched the show? No.
Ahmed winning the IC title was my personal mark out moment.
Warrior vs Lawler was the best use for either's time?? Returning Legend vs Full time commentator? Nah, I would rather Isaac Yankem vs Warrior rather than the throw away match on RAW.
Don't remember the main event match itself but the Warrior, Shawn and Ahmed team up at the end was exciting stuff.
WWE revisionist history aside, the Warrior got the loudest pops every time he was out there.

The poster kind of says it all on who the WWF was banking on at the time.

Just rewatched it last weekend! Such a great show.
Cutting PPV time to the tournament and stacking the card elsewhere feels like an attempt to right the course after the previous year’s show was such a dud precisely because of the tournament.

As a kid I loved tournaments so was pretty disappointed this one wasn't a full tournament. I even wished the previous few years had been huge tournaments like Wrestling Classic but I get why WWF may have felt the need to downsize from here on. Especially the 1996 version, a few of the guys were really at their lowest points such as HHH, Bradshaw, Savio, Bob Holly, Marty Jannetty, Henry Godwinn who were in the qualifying matches.
The biggest "what if" would be if Ted Dibiase was still with Austin at the point. If so he would have probably done a speech for Austin or if Austin did one himself with Ted there not sure if he would have done the 3:16 speech.

My memory of this show is always Owen Hart's commentary. It's hilarious. His deadpan deliveries are amazing.
"Jake Roberts is a great competitor, but at 80 years old or 90 years old or whatever he is, he doesn't stand a chance"

And everytime Vince said Jake was 41, Owen would chime in with "51 or 61." Owen was a bit young at the time to be put into a commentary role but if he were a bit older it would have worked.

The poster kind of says it all on who the WWF was banking on at the time. When Warrior was the main draw in 1996... Yeah they needed someone to step up.

Was this show the first encounter between Taker and Mankind on PPV if memory serves correctly?

Was this show the first encounter between Taker and Mankind on PPV if memory serves correctly? First PPV matchup. Pretty sure they had house show matches beforehand.

I wasn’t watching around then but my biggest memory of the “Austin 3:16” promo was seeing the full segment years later and noticing how and be shocked that it didn’t immediately set the wrestling work on fire like WWE had me believe for years. I don’t even remember the crowd doing anything other than the crowd sitting in their hands when he said it.

"Jake Roberts is a great competitor, but at 80 years old or 90 years old or whatever he is, he doesn't stand a chance" I think my favorite was "Not only did I defeat the Smoking Gunns, of course I did all the work because that fat slob Yokozuna was my partner". Makes me bust out laughing everytime I watch this show. I was actually at this show live as a young seven year old. It's still the best show I've ever been to and easily the most memorable. I thought for sure at the time that the final was going to be Mero against Vader with Vader winning. I was shocked Austin won as he really didn't seem to have much going on at the time. Lawler making fun of the Milwaukee fans on the mic as he was making his way to the ring was great too. I thought it was especially hilarious when he told two women in the crowd "It's women like you that turn men into ......well Goldust:. I thought his match with Warrior pretty lame even as a kid and big Warrior mark. Ahmed snapping after getting fondled by Goldust and beating the crap out of him to win the IC title was a great moment. Mankind going over Undertaker was shocking as Undertaker never jobbed and I just figured Mankind was just going to be another monster of the month that Taker would vanquish. HBK/Bulldog was a great match and so was all the run ins concluding with Warrior to set up the International Incident Six Man.
