Here is a brutal match that doesn't really get mentioned as much anymore. It celebrates it's 20th anniversary. I remember watching this and having a few things I took away from this match.
Shane McMahon is crazy. We all know the thud when he landed head first. And then going through two sheets of glass. Angle slam off the top rope. I think of all of Shane's matches. This one is the best and most brutal.
Kurt Angle is also crazy. 3rd match of the night for him. Talk about taking it to the limit. He just proved his worth to the WWF, even if they didn't see it at the time. What a workhorse.
Both guys came out with some pretty bad injuries. Quite the epic match that holds up very well today.
What were your initial thoughts on this match?

One of the most stupidly violent matches I ever watched live. And completely unintentional

The best thing I can say about this match is that it led to the classic Austin/Angle/Vince vignettes throughout June/July 2001.
Angle getting hurt in this match and Austin getting hurt later in the night by Booker T meant that they were kept out of the ring for a month or so so they were booked in a bunch of backstage segments to keep them on TV and we got magic out of it.

I wonder if this match is what started Kurts painkiller addiction.

Get out of here! Wrestlemania 9 was 20 years ago wasn't it?

Absolutely hated it then and now. One of my least favorite matches ever that doesn't have the reputation of being bad. The brutality is sickening and not in a remotely enjoyable way (seriously, I'd sooner rewatch the Rock-Mankind I Quit Match first) and Shane actually outwrestling Angle at any point is just absurd.

This is not a commentary on the quality of the match itself but:
anyone else feel like this one was actually longer ago than only 20 years?

A belter of a match if you can grit your teeth through the sick bumps. Who'd believe that the person who's in better shape twenty years later is the guy getting thrown through the glass, not the one throwing? This is not a commentary on the quality of the match itself but: anyone else feel like this one was actually longer ago than only 20 years? The Attitude Era feels like yesterday and forever ago simultaneously.
