If Jimmy is an "independent contractor" then maybe WWE can't do anything about a DUI on his own time?

It's just interesting to note all of the petty shit WWE has gotten mad about and/or fired people over, but something like this that can actually impact the lives of people outside of the talent and company involved will in all likelihood get swept under the rug (aka fine/quick suspension) and at best only mildly irritate the folks in corporate.
Even if Jimmy doesn't get fired or get serious about going to rehab and fixing whatever his problems are, I would hope that he gets his license revoked for a long time or at the very least one of those breathalyzer devices put on his car (I know neither option is 100% foolproof but it's better than doing nothing and at least it'll be on record for next time), but he lives in Florida which is basically a utopia for people who want to live "100% free from government control", community health and safety be damned, so I've got my doubts about that. It really is a shame how flippantly our legal system and society seems to take DUI's when at the same time a counterfeit $20 bill can get you a death sentence if you look a certain way and run in to the wrong cop. There's not just two separate systems, there's a complete disconnect in the severity of crimes that seem to get a pass and the ones that are taken seriously. Kinda says a lot about us, what we value, and what we don't.

I think people need to look at that WON tweet and see it's from July 2019 and not now. I took the post as an allusion that they'll copy and paste the same response from the last time Jimmy had a DUI, two years ago.

The guy needs help. One day something bad is going to happen whether it's his life or someone else's. There's clearly some mental health issue here.

If Jimmy is an "independent contractor" then maybe WWE can't do anything about a DUI on his own time? They definitely can no longer contract with him anymore, at the very least. I don't think anyone is suggesting that WWE has the ability to actually force him into rehab, but to act like the company can't do anything is a complete cop out.

If Jimmy is an "independent contractor" then maybe WWE can't do anything about a DUI on his own time? I'm some straight bullshit if this were true. You can't own the rights to your own wrestling name nor can you make money on sponsorships we don't approve, but you get a free pass if you're arrested and your mugshot is plastered across all of mainstream media.

Oh yeah it's definitely bullshit, I'm just curious if there's a get-out for WWE there. If they're not technically employers then they're not technically responsible for their actions, either. Maybe change "can't" to "won't" in my original post.

Maybe change "can't" to "won't" in my original post. This would fall under their 'morals clause,' and in case there is some confusion, this is an excerpt of the clause itself: Long story short: they are well within their contractual obligations to fire him, but whether they will or not is strictly worded in this case. The only ones that really are 'black and white fired' are those of convictions for domestic abuse (likely a method to ensure another Benoit tragedy doesn't happen under their employment).

Maybe change "can't" to "won't" in my original post. It's absolutely true that, generally speaking, WWE will have no liability for anything that happens outside of the scope of Jimmy's employment. But, if he ends up hurting somebody there will definitely be an argument that WWE should bear some responsibility on the basis that the WWE was on notice of his potentially dangerous behavior (given the three prior DUIs), still allowed him to be "on the road" with the company, and failed to take appropriate steps to ensure that he had safe transportation (this would take the form of a negligent hiring/supervision claim). There will also be an argument that WWE has, under similar circumstances, affirmatively stepped in to fund sending other employees/ex-employees to rehab, threaten other employees with disciplinary action over similar issues, etc...and therefore owed the same duty as to Jimmy Uso (hilariously, this is called the "undertaker's doctrine.") Obviously, it'd be a stretch and there's, like, a 99% chance a lawsuit against WWE would be dismissed, but any Plaintiff's attorney would definitely at least take a shot at WWE under the circumstances. The company has deeper pockets than Jimmy himself. That's part of the reason I think that WWE needs to actually do something this time, if only to protect itself from future litigation.

He may or not have a drinking problem, we cannot know for sure. I dunno. One, perhaps two DUIs, I could attribute those to poor judgement, particularly if they weren’t close together and they were at or barely over the limit. FOUR DUIs in just a few years, and on this latest one you’re blowing three times the legal limit? I think that’s a sound indication that the guy just really loves, or at least doesn’t see any issues with, getting shitfaced and getting behind the wheel.

This doesn't include his February 2019 altercation with the cops, one of the few times where he wasn't driving, but Naomi got pulled over for driving down the wrong way of a one-way street and he decided to 'square up' with the cops. There is no "may or may not" here. Anyone who says that he doesn't have a drinking problem is in flat denial at this point.

At my worst I drank a half gallon of whisky a day and was constantly over the limit. But I never had a DUI. I drove drunk more when my drinking was far less and more or less under control. It was bad judgement and lack of responsibility and I own that.

Fightful Select just had this update:
"To follow up on WrestleVotes' report that Jimmy Uso has “high level people in power” extremely disappointed & legitimately pissed off over his DUI arrest, we can expand on that, and confirm it. Fightful has spoken to numerous talent, staff, and high level WWE names this week about their feelings on Uso, and there's unanimous concern across the board for him personally.
Fightful reached out to WWE for comment on Uso's arrest, but they did not respond. In the past, they've noted that wrestlers are responsible for their own actions. Multiple WWE Superstars expressed to Fightful that they were happy that wasn't the line this go around, considering the situation has happened multiple times, and they think WWE should get involved to make sure things get handled before someone gets hurt.
Jimmy Uso is well liked among those that we spoke to, but one compared the infractions to Rob Van Dam's in 2006, noting that more happened to him than in three arrests. One top WWE name called Uso's current storyline "the story we've all been waiting for," and expressed disappointment that he'd risk that. The overall tone was that of fear for safety, disappointment, and frustration.
It's worth noting that in a 2019 DUI charge, Uso was found not guilty."

WWE won’t fire him unless he actually kills someone. He is a relative of Dwayne Johnson, that whole family is off limits.

WWE won’t fire him unless he actually kills someone. He is a relative of Dwayne Johnson, that whole family is off limits. Not even remotely true. As others have stated, being a member of the Anoa'i family didn't stop the WWE from firing Umaga when he refused to go to rehab for his drug issues, nor Yokozuna when he refused to lose weight, nor Rosey or Manu when they didn't have anything for them. This stigmata of the Rock's relatives being protected needs to end. Yes, there may be some level of preferential treatment to stay on the good side of their biggest mainstream export, but even that doesn't make his family bulletproof.
