The final boss in this game's version of single player needs to be Olmec from Legends of The Hidden Temple.

Meanwhile, I don't see how being derivative of Smash Bros. is a bad thing? As long as you're competent and know what you're doing, it's a concept that needs more games and takes. I think the problem is that most derivatives of Smash are bad. I think the only exceptions seem to be stuff like multiplayer indies that do enough different, Brawlhalla and…that’s it? I never played Slap City but people I follow seem to really like that so that’s why I have more faith than how, for example, PlayStation All-Stars had to be constructed from the ground up with fighting game people who didn’t know what made Smash…Smash. When I had to explain to people how Punch Time Explosion was a bad game, I had to address missing mechanics like grab throws or dodges, along with how sloppy the overall flow was. It's a decade old and I'm one of 30 people who still have a console that have it installed. There's a lot you can get wrong, for sure, but I think when you have a basic foundation of how Smash works and don't try and do weird things with it, it could work.

I think it was Rebel Taxi or some similar Youtube channel that did a retrospective on Punch Time Explosion last year, and one of the developers of that game e-mailed him and confirmed that they had a lot of ideas but were given little to no time to implement by publisher Crave in order to get the game out for the Nintendo 3DS' launch window. They came out with a slightly enhanced version for the consoles a few months later, but it didn't really fix any of the major gameplay issues. On the whole I still got some enjoyment out of the game because George "Space Ghost" Lowe was the game's announcer/narrator and it was fun to wreck Captain Planet's shit with my boys Mac and Bloo.

Seeing as how Nigel Thornberry is in this game, this sound clip better be used when he pulls off some moves: Nah man they need SMASHING! to at least fully lampshade the idea

Yeah... a lot of the smash clones are not good. Playstation All-stars is also amazing in just HOW badly they missed the ball... because it seemed like such a homerun idea...

I think their first mistake was having Seth Killian as head designer. Like, he's a fighting game icon and did a lot for Capcom but...it did come off as more "square peg in a round hole". I'm not saying they should have tried to get Sakurai but you need someone of his vision or at least someone whose worked with him to make something like it. Or at least someone whose a massive fan of the franchise.

I've always been kind of surprised Xbox never tried sort of an arena shooter version of Smash Bros. for some of their mascots. Even ones like Banjo would slot in perfectly in that.

Honestly already better than PlayStation All Stars because the roster actually makes some f***ing sense. Those are indeed some of Nick's All Stars. And the graphics seems to actually be well made

I think the problem, at the time anyway, was that they didn't really have many "icons" that could get people's attention. It's actually interesting that, since the Bethesda acquisition, something like that would actually work. A game where Master Chief takes on Doomguy? Sure!

probably safe to assume Donny and Raph are also in.
I'd also expect like Timmy Turner or Cosmo/Wanda.

As far as the Nickelodeon title, unfortunately there's still no confirmation of any of the Avatar the Last Airbender characters, including Sokka. It figures, the one time I actually want an anime swordsman in a platform fighting game, and he's nowhere to be found.

I’m not at all a Smash Bros / fighting fan, but I might eventually get this on discount because of the Nick.

If you ever played the game's "story mode", there's a ton of things going on that don't quite work out, like turret sections, an Angry Birds/tower defense type mode, and mine cart vehicular stages. They wanted the story to be fleshed out, but time wasn't the essence. I don't fault the game for existing; if anything, I thought it was very cool, but I can point out the stuff that didn't come out in the end, and it makes the end product suffer. I... didn't help things as a fan, cause I remembered sending messages to the developers, Papaya Studios, about character requests, ignorant about licensing fees, copyright law, and technical details. It was 2011... my mind wasn't as fully comprehensive of things as I was a late bloomer due to autism. They good naturedly accepted it, but in reality, it didn't make sense.

A strong roster is absolutely vital, even moreso than for more traditional fighting games.

A strong roster is absolutely vital, even moreso than for more traditional fighting games. It's why I find the small subsection of the Smash Bros. fandom that wants the next game to be a reboot that trims the roster down to about 20 characters to be absolutely impossible to wrap my head around. Ultimate plays about as well as it could anyway and a followup that has a fraction of the content would not sell anywhere near as well.
