I think that if this happens, it would no longer be anything close to an exaggeration to say AEW becomes the biggest threat to WWE since WCW closed its doors.
Double that if they get Bryan.

Random but before Joe got hired back by NXT I was having a reoccurring day dream of Punk, Joe and Danielson debuting as some modern nwo-esque former independents stars wrecking crew.

If this potentially leads to AJ Lee getting involved in wrestling again then I'm all for it.
And I guess there's also the whole "would be extremely beneficial to AEW's mainstream visibility" etc. etc. thing. But come on, priorities!

I hate this. If it happens, its not a surprise anymore, if it doesnt happen, people get pissed. Same with the Bryan Danielson rumors. Meanwhile you get a million discussions about it happening at All Out? It doesnt, suddenly a great card is overshadowed. And of course now there are the "Signing too many WWE guys" conversations even though Punk and Bryan made their names in ROH and the independents. I hope it ends on a positive. So this is WWE rumors people now telling the "dirt sheets" where they think free agents are going? What world do we even live in now? I think on the positive side, AEW's fanbase seems to be the type that won't shit on a show because CM Punk or Bryan Danielson don't show up. It's hard to know who leaked what, but for Sean Ross Sapp to report it means that he's heard it from more than one source. He's not a "dirt sheet" writer like those on Ringside News, Rajah, Wrestling Inc., etc. that publish hearsay. He knows what he's talking about and has built up a brand so for him to put it out there, there's a very real chance it happens.

Interesting, though I hope Punk and Cabana have reconciled if Punk actually is showing up. If this potentially leads to AJ Lee getting involved in wrestling again then I'm all for it. And I guess there's also the whole "would be extremely beneficial to AEW's mainstream visibility" etc. etc. thing. But come on, priorities! If she could get more of AEW's Women's division booked on Dynamite consistently, that'd be great.

I think that combined with her success writing comics and TV might mean she's done, but we're sitting here talking about a very real chance Punk comes back so who knows.

Like, I can believe there might be motives from the people he’s talked to but he’s also said that other people have heard the same thing and his track record is very much followed by the responses of people like Meltzer, Johnson and their ilk.

As a personal preference, I’ll say this;
Punk/Omega would be a lot of fun and if it happens, I’ll watch.
I’ll find a way to punch you all digitally to get to the front of the queue to book any PPV Danielson/Omega is on.

Coming out of retirement to challenge OC to a Mimosa Mayhem match, obviously. Punk is straight edge, so it'd have to be non-alcoholic.

If it happens at All Out, I hope it’s at the beginning of the show. The last thing I want is for CM Punk chants to cloud the entire show. Yeah. The first thing you should hear are the opening chords of Cult of Personality. One other thing - while I don’t think he’d want it announced this way I could see this being another situation where TNT demands a press release and wants people to tune in. Maybe he ends up on Dynamite or Rampage before All Out. I would prefer Miseria Cantare. The slow build would give me chills.

For sure. He said if he didn't report it that others would have in the next few days, which makes me think this is somebody close to AEW trying to recapture mindshare this week given everything that went on with Cena. That's just my PR brain working, but who knows.

Given my user name, I'd love that, but I think Cult is the song people know him with most now. I wouldn't mind a special entrance with it though!

On the subject of songs, “This Fire Burns” is an underrated theme of Punks.

Not really sure that this would be a good long term get for AEW. While I’m sure that he would get some good buzz for his initial appearances and will almost certainly cut a shooty promo on the WWE, but after that what do you even do with him? He’s never been a workrate machine like Daniel Bryan and while he could obviously sell a feud with his promos it’s also been 7 years since he’s even wrestled and the pull that he had on people seems to not be as strong anymore. As usual I’m probably wrong on this take, but for how much they’d likely have to pay him I’m not sure if it would be worth it for a multi year deal or anything. Maybe a one year deal with an option to extend? 🤷🏻♂️ While he's not as good as Danielson, I think you're way underselling Punk's in-ring abilities. He's had some fantastic matches over the years, especially his matches with Samoa Joe in ROH. Only things that really hurt his overall performance in the ring are injuries, which is where the safer WWE style worked to his benefit.

He’s be able to use Cult of Personality right? That’s an actual song, not a WWE one.

Punk is one of my all time favorites, was live in Boston when he got the “we want ice cream” chant started. Also a great segment in general, that gets overshadowed by the pipe bomb itself. Even with this I just can’t see him in AEW. Count me in for Punk is simply trying to get AEW/WWE to pay as much as possible for his services. And in a battle of wallets while Khan may be richer, I don’t see him paying as much as WWE may.

Awesome news! I predicted he would return soon after crowds returned and was shot down by some. It just made sense and you can tell from his interviews that’s he’s completely open to wrestling again.
The report does kind of make it sound like he may be negotiating with both companies or at least that there’s a possibility WWE swoops in and tries to sign him. Wherever he ends up, I’ll be watching.

I'd save all my money to get DB myself, but I'll still gladly take this!
