I'll start with this one.
On August 7th, 1997, the Detroit Pistons traded forward Otis Thorpe to the Vancouver Grizzlies for a 2003 1st round draft pick (Darko Milicic).
It's not who was at 2nd, it was that Vancouver/Memphis had this trade come back the haunt them.
Who knows what the 2003-04 Grizzlies would've looked like with either Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh or Dwyane Wade on their team. A trade that haunted them for decades.

Would Babe Ruth count? I know eventually the Red Sox would break the “curse” but getting rid of someone who would end up probably the most famous ever baseball player in the world is something they’d never live down.

Herschel Walker going to the Vikings set their franchise back over a decade. Jimmy Johnson used the extra draft picks to build America’s Team.

Connie Mack traded away a bunch of great players after some championship years followed by a decade of bad teams in fact he did it twice.

We shall see how it continues but the Laremy Tunsil trade started the quick dissent for Houston as a rising team to a potential long term dumpster fire while kicking the Dolphins rebuild into overdrive

I’m gonna assume that trading Kobe Bryant for Vlade Divac at the 1996 NBA Draft really screwed over the Hornets franchise.

We're not quite to forever, but the Pirates trading Glasnow and Meadows to Tampa for Chris Archer is the worst trade in recent memory, and has firmly planted the Pirates in the cellar, while the Rays are having the best run in franchise history.
Exacerbated by the fact that a very injury prone shell of Chris Archer is back with the Rays less than 3 years later.

Yeah, when the Cubs basically gave away Gleyber Torres when Aroldis Chapman signed back with the Yankees in the 2016 off-season I felt annoyed..... however, I quickly remembered they won the World Series, so I ended up being ok with it. It's everything that has happened post 2017 that I have gotten increasingly annoyed with. I say post 2017 because they made a nice run to the NLCS in 2017.

Speaking of the Cubs..... Brock-for-Broglio. Not only an awful trade... but to the rival Cardinals. LOL

Chapman reminds me that the Reds have some bad ones in recent years, too. Chapman was traded for 4 dudes who did a sum total of nothing on the Reds major league roster. Didi Gregorious for a 1-year rental of Shin-Soo Choo (which, I guess, did pay off insofar as that was Choo's best year as a major leaguer and the Reds made the playoffs, but they have no hardware to show for it.) Yasmani Grandal, Brad Boxberger, and Yonder Alonso for a injury-plagued Mat Latos. A still very much in his prime Johnny Cueto, who helped bring KC a World Series, for two pitchers who have rarely managed to get out of the minors since the trade. I fully expect trading Taylor Trammell for a pointless rental of Trevor Bauer, and Jeter Downs (among others) for old Matt Kemp, no longer on the team Alex Wood, and no longer on the team Yasiel Puig to fall into this category very soon, too.

Seattle trading Derek Lowe and Jason Varitek to the Boston RedSox for Heathcliff Slocumb I was so happy when that happened. It’s amazing how quickly things turned around and also how the Sox got a gem out of Minnesota with David Ortiz. Don’t ever remember Papi doing that much with the Twins either.

Warriors trade Robert Parish and the pick that turned out to be Kevin McHale to the Celtics for Joe Barry Carroll.
THAT Eric Lindros trade decimating the Flyers and building the eventual Colorado Avalanche into a championship team.

In fairness, Chapman had that DV investigation going on so they sold real low on him

Maybe the Mets do more winning with both Seaver and Nolan Ryan in the rotation throughout the 70’s.
