It's stacked for this era, but it's not even invited to the table for the conversation of best divisions when you go back to the golden era. Most of these teams would be lucky to get 5-minute treatments from the Steiners or Bulldogs on TV. Amen 💯💯💯 Can you imagine what the Steiners or Road Warriors would do to a team like the Young Bucks? Ouch

Can you imagine what the Steiners or Road Warriors would do to a team like the Young Bucks? Ouch The Steiner's were f***ing crazy. For some of the stuff people critique about Young Bucks style the Steiners I feel invented some of the most crazier moves and double teams in wrestling. So undoubtedly a Steiners/Bucks match would rule and The Bucks would sell their asses off for them. Someone's taking a Meltzer Driver. Someone's taking a Steiner Screwdriver.

Either they would sell for the Steiners, or else the Steiners would rough them up, and then shove sharpies up their ass.

Can you imagine what the Steiners or Road Warriors would do to a team like the Young Bucks? Ouch Genuine question - so a hallmark of a better tag division is the stars taking liberties in the ring?

Pretty much what I was about to post. I hate the narrative that this/these person(s) were better than today's era because they could beat them up for realz. Or that "shoving sharpies up their butts" is cool at all. That isn't the hallmark of a good team for me, at all. That's just a mark of bullies. I'll be honest, my wrestling fandom started in the late 90s. The Attitude era tag division was terrific with some of the best tag teams of all time. Despite that, I'd probably put AEW's above only because of the depth in the division. There's like 6 teams who could be champs with the right story. Then there are teams like the Wingmen, Chaos Project, or the Gunn Club who are just fun lower card teams.

One place AEW loses is on the characters. The 2000s tag division had a ton of characters. But neither hold a candle to 1988 wwf. Harts, demos, POP, Bulldogs, rockers, brain busters, rougeaus

It's good but it doesn't hold a candle to WWF 1988-89. During that stretch this is who they had:
Demolition Hart Foundation Strike Force British Bulldogs Islanders Killer Bees Rougeau Brothers Powers of Pain Rockers Brain Busters Twin Towers Bushwhackers

A few years back WWE could have had the tag division below but they were all spread thinly across different shows and/or split up.
DIY FTR Enzo and Cass Hardys New Day Usos The Bar American Alpha
Authors Of Pain Breezango Hype Bros Slater and Rhyno
Vaudevillians The Club Colons Ascension

In my opinion they have really taken a step back with their tag team division. I don’t feel like they have really strong teams, and the ones they do have already had their shot. The division should be stacked in a sense that any tag team being champion would make sense. There are maybe 3 teams at most that you could see legit becoming champs…the others are just there for filler and to take up L’s.
