Language Warning
Reworked song from 2001 which was Silkworms back then. Penned by Dizzy Reed.

I would have figured between the "new" songs they have been soundchecking before the shows, that 'Hard School' would be the one they would release as the first single with Axl and Slash in 30 years since it has that classic GnR feel (seeing as Izzy was around during that songs writing since it dates around 95/96)...but this band just cant be normal. I didnt care for it when I first heard it at Rock In Rio 3, and I still dont care for it here with Slash and Duff overdubs. I also get a kick out of the fact that Frank who has been the drummer since 2007 is not the drummer on this, it would be former drummer Brain from Primus/Praxis...also LOL at the fact that this is the first song with Axl and Slash in 30 years and the first sound you hear is Buckethead's guitar with the killswitch effect.
My one plea to Axl and the band, dont make the same mistake you made on the Chinese Democracy album, this time you leave Brian May on the song!! If the guitar solo for "Atlas Shrugged" and "Perhaps" is done by Slash now I will flip!! More so with Atlas Shrugged as its the most Brian May guitar solo ever.
Overall, I guess I give Axl some credit here...nobody would have predicted THIS as the big "reunion song" nor did anybody predict that Dizzy Reed is the one who would write the first new GnR song with Axl and Slash in 30 years.

Finally!!! It’s you. Thought they lost something here dropping “what can I do? With a bitch like you/you know that it’s true” lyric and replacing it with “Absurd!” When your verse is “Pussy full of maggots, isn’t that absurd?” I get it. Leave the lyrics change the title. But then, look at the lyrics I’m defending.

But then, look at the lyrics I’m defending. I was tempted to make this topic when they played it in Boston and goin with "GnR has a New(ish) song, its terrible..." I just....still cant believe that THIS is the choice of the first song, it makes zero sense!!! Outside of the screams in the background you cant tell thats Axl. The song from Loony Toons did a better job with Axl and a song that sounds like Axl singing. This....*shrugs* Its like a bad wrestling storyline all this build up and it falls flat. I also figured they would go with "written by Guns n' Roses" so that casuals will look at it and go "ah see, Axl, Slash and the tall one got together and wrote these songs just like the old days!" caus I bet whatever songs make a future album will have writing credits to distribute a mile long so thus we get "written by Guns n' Roses" instead. And I hate that a band I care about very much has made me this cynical but....ughhh!! Its annoying being such a hardcore fan of this band.

I gave up years ago trying to know every little thing. New Guns N’ Roses song now that Slash is back should break the world but he says “f***” every 4 words, so it’s not getting radio play.

Unpopular opinion
Axl spoils GNR and theyd be a much better band without him

I think what he means is, they can’t write a good tune without Izzy Stradlin which is a common opinion that’s probably closer to a fact.

Ax is his own worst enemy.
Zillions to be made in co-signing younger bands and touring even if he never wants to record anything new again.
Get out of your own way, man.

Yes, because I'm sure Axl is hurting for money and wants to work constantly now that he's 60. He didn’t have to put out a new album at all. The band’s legacy was secure, everyone was still making money, it was all good. He opened his mouth, he cannot act surprised that people responded.

I'm honestly struggling to see what your response has to do with what I said. New album? There is no new album. And when you say he "opened his mouth and people responded" I don't even know what you are referencing.

The band’s legacy was secure, everyone was still making money, it was all good. He opened his mouth, he cannot act surprised that people responded. "opened his mouth"?? dude has barely said anything in over 30 years...and the whole "co sign new bands" im sure Mammoth WVH is a new band thats on the road with them?? As for the "didnt have to put out a new album at all, the bands legacy was secure" all fine except it wasnt secure at all, attendance and ticket sales were down the last few years for them because the general fanbase has gotten the same setlists since pretty much 2001 and 90% of the comments on anything they would post on social media are people wanting new music from them. plus ya know, thing about bands is they have a thing called record contracts, they are this wacky thing saying "you owe us x amount of albums or we can legally sue for breach of contract and we own all your masters" This is a legal thing that has caused 100% of what Buckethead wrote with Guns to be 100% owned by Geffen and he cant do anything with despite none of it will likely be used in the future. Same issues Tommy Stinson is going through with the songs he wrote (and sang lead on) for Guns that will never get used now. And im sure all the songs Izzy wrote with Axl in 95 and again in 06/07 are all owned by the record company too. If Guns uses these songs to make something more listenable then good on them for going with logic. However this "new" song is not logic being used by Guns. Upon another listen, its kinda sad this is the best guitar sound Slash has gotten on a record since the Illusions days...

I guess it's... okay? It feels like something that should've definitely been left on the cutting room floor. The vocals are pretty ridiculous. That fake British accent "thing" is a little much.
Having said all of that, yes, it's better than a lot of Chinese Democracy and definitely better than the entirety of Velvet Revolver.

Hell, they barely wrote any music at all. I think this song is horrendous, and the only thing that shocks me about it more is that, for once, they didn't use a song Izzy had a hand in writing. And let me tell you, that shows. GNR is one of my two favorite bands ever, so I'm used to drama. But, as Vampiro138 can surely tell you (lol), I'm a wee bit salty about everything that went down with Izzy. Team Izzy all day, every day.

I’ve read it before but I bought it as an e-book because it was cheap, Slash’s book. It made me wonder if Guns would have been as successful had it been Jeff, Saul, Mike, Steven and Bill instead of Izzy, Slash, Duff, Steven and Axl. Names do matter.

I can in fact confirm that when I was 6 years old in 1987, seeing dudes named Axl and Slash that looked like that was the coolest thing ever and made me a rock n roll fan for life.

I think Appetite was strong enough that it would have made waves, but the names definitely help. Slash and Izzy sound way more rock than Saul and Jeff haha
