Leagues are starting up again so that means it’s time for a new thread. As usual, keep it friendly. Nothing that goes beyond low-level piss-taking. So get to predicting!

To try and summarize the end of the last thread;
- Barcelona are in such financial shambles, Messi is now a full free agent, Aguero apparently already wants to leave and the rest of their new signings aren’t even registered yet.
- Harry Kane may or may not be lobbying for a transfer even though he’s put out a statement saying he isn’t but who even knows?
- Man City signed Jack Grealish from Aston Villa and Villa seem like they’re not doing a Gareth Bale…yet.
- Oh, and the ESL is somehow still a thing despite being three teams strong. One, again, being in financial shambles.
Probably forgetting stuff but that’s what I remember.

Saints and Brighton in a scrap over Celtics Odsonne Edouard. Saints are obviously desperate for a striker after Ings left for Villa. Because he wanted Champions League football, obviously.

Ok prediction time, because I was so accurate last season, well not really but here goes.
Germany - Bayern
Spain - Real Madrid
Italy - Inter
France - PSG
UCL - PSG, Messi (assuming he signs) will get them over the line sadly.
EPL - I think it's possible we have two or even three teams with over 85 points in the league.
1. Liverpool - call me biased but if VVD & some combination of Matip, Gomez & Konate play 38 games we can win the league again. 2. Man City - Aguero is a huge loss & I think they will drop off marginally. 3. Man Utd - Sancho is huge but still lacking something to win the league I think. Will be closer though in terms of points. 4. Chelsea - same top 4 as last season boring I know. Can't see Chelsea missing out but can't see them challenging for the title either. 5. West Ham - the big surprise of last season for me. If they can keep hold of the squad I can see them improving. 6. Arsenal - Should win the North London race for the first time in a while. I think Arteta will have a better season. 7. Leicester - They have been so close to getting back into the Champions League for 2 seasons. I can see them falling away. Vardy can't go forever. 8. Leeds - Had a great first year back & can see them improving & not doing a Sheffield Utd. 9. Spurs - Even if they keep Kane they are going backwards again. Nuno is a good manager but he will be working in a disjointed club. 10. Newcastle - Steve Bruce is exceeding expectations, can see them back in the top half. 11. Norwich - Farke is a good manager & they will have learnt from 19/20. 12. Aston Villa - Losing Grealish is a massive blow but as long as they invest the cash wisely & don't panic buy they will do ok. 13. Burnley - On paper one of the weaker squads in the division but Dyche always seems to find a way. 14. Brighton - Graham Potter seems to have a handle on working within the resources he has like Dyche, should stay up again. 15. Wolves - The new manager doesn't fill me with confidence. Went backwards under Nuno last season & will do so again. 16. Everton - maybe my bias is showing here but they will slide down. Off season manager & player drama doesn't equal success. 17. Brentford - expected to go down but I think they have the tools to survive. Franks has slowly built the team & will keep them up. 18. Crystal Palace - the stability of Hodgson is gone. Viera untested in the league, will be in a scrap to survive. 19. Southampton - the 2nd half of last season was awful. They were leading the league at one point & finished 13th. Ings gone as well. 20. Watford - Will start poorly, sack the manager. Probably sack at least one more during the season. That's what they do.

BUY DEFENDERS YOU IDIOTS also champs rangers LOST their first premiership game against dundee united, ending their unbeaten run in 41 games! grealish is nowhere NEAR worth £100 million, more like £30 million tops, but that's man city crazy money for ya the community shield coming up later too, as the blue city take on the blue city ... a diverse cup game i think there grievsey! our first EFL on quest tonight too, with a full lower league round up and the fa cup starts in earnest too, yesterday four matches took place yesterday, the vast majority today, and five more sunday we're getting there ...

I honestly don’t understand any of this. They’re spending a lot on a guy who basically needs to score out of the gate for the price and has no resale value because of his age. It feels like he’s the last option and they happen to be able to spend that much since Inter need money.

About the only real thing the deal has going for it as opposed to waiting for someone like Haaland to become available is Lukaku is a proven Premier League goalscorer. The catch is if the team isn't built on playing to his strengths he doesn't offer much - see most of his last season at United, especially after Solskjær took over.

Not sure if they can do it over the whole season though it’s going to be a massive ask as long as they haven’t lost any star players? Can’t see Inter winning the title if they are going to sell all their best players. Hoping AC Milan can push harder this year and might be too soon for Jose to make Roma challengers.

Not gonna lie there is a certain amount of hope in that prediction. They've lost Romero to Spurs which doesn't help but they've retained everyone else and brought in some decent reinforcements. Feels like AC's freefall in the second half of the season is their true form. Inter feel like are just going to drop like a stone and Lazio and Roma aren't there (yet). That leaves Juve (who are still weak by their own high standards), Napoli and Atalanta. Juve are probably the smarter bet but I'd love to see Atalanta win it.

I know it's all down to the money on the table, but for f***s sake Messi, show some ambition by not going to probably the most one sided league in Europe.

Logically, though, is there anyone else that can afford him? Because the literal only other clubs I can think of are Man City, who just spent £100m on a guy near Messi's position, LA Galaxy and Inter Miami who a) have restrictions on foreign players and b) have a salary cap for their league. Like, anywhere else would likely bankrupt the club on wages alone.

It would be funny if PSG signed Messi and then didn’t win the French league for the second year in a row.

So the Messi to PSG move might be in doubt because Barcelona's Lawyers are looking to file a complaint to the European Commission saying that PSG would be breaching spending rules if they did.
And if the papers are right, this leaves Tottenham to swoop in and botch a potential free transfer because Levy's an idiot.
