New DVR arrived. Got it hooked up, it won't work. A little Googling later, turns out it's not even a DVR at all, but a streaming box that doesn't even work without the DVR. Thanks DirecTV! Gotta go through that hassle again.

1. I had to work NYE. Not bad in itself, but I couldn't request it off in time.
2. My cook walked out on me after the other one clocked out to go home. Yay.

Needed a haircut, so I make an appointment on the Great Clips app. It says there’s a wait and they’ll text me when to head to the salon. After a bit I get a text saying the wait is ten minutes and I should head that way.
Show up on time to find I’ve still got two people ahead of me, both young women with long hair, and there’s only two barbers working.
When I was still waiting 45 minutes later I finally left, went to a competitor, and was in and out in under 20 minutes.
I understand the employees at the location probably have limited control over the messages the app sends, but Jesus Christ.

I have begun a one month personal challenge to adhere to a variant of Dwayne Johnson’s 12 labors diet. Steak, chicken, steamed broccoli, steamed asparagus, and egg whites. I’m rather cranky with junk food cravings.

A situation that got me mad. or rather sad. I decided to check on the account of one of my friends I haven't spoken to in person in almost a decade, and who also hasn't posted on his FB in years. I see he's tagged in a post about having been missing for a day and later found. The post pretty much lays out that he has a mental disability and wears a medical id necklace, and the update to him being found says he only had minor bruises. When you put all that together, it's just heartbreaking and a clear indication that his mental health has deteriorated. This was a guy who I used to have long conversations with, and who would get good grades. I didn't know he had anything going on mentally, so this was a surprise. It just makes me mad how his intellect is pretty much robbed from him by the look of it.

I've been informed that because nobody else wants to have to come into work, I now have to be in the office every day (I'm the only one who does), and that I will never be allowed to take a day off again for any reason.
Also, my supervisor's boss has gone back to deadnaming me (my supervisor himself never stopped doing it, because he hates me, and has admitted as much.) and telling everyone else that they have to, too, and that HR agrees with her on this.
Unfortunately, I do not have the skills to get a job that pays more somewhere else.

First off I want to clarify that I do not have a problem with people who are not fluent in English. I try to be as patient as I can be and make it easier on them, which plays a part in this story.
There is a gas station and deli near me that does great and cheap burgers. My wife has always made the order and picked them up. Today I wanted one for lunch so I called. Since she told me they are not the most fluent I made it easy on them. I told the woman I wanted a burger combo for pickup, fully dressed. She starts asking questions and between the phone cutting out and her accent I could not understand a word of what she was asking me. So I finally got frustrated and hung up.
I know from listening to my wife order that they do not ask for name or phone number. So when I ordered I told them everything they needed to know. If you dont have a full command of the language I get it. Dont ask a bunch of unnecessary questions. Just take the order and tell me how long.

I’m of an age that before I more or less trimmed my social media accounts of just about everyone from my podunk hometown in 2015, I was seeing a disturbing number of people I went to school with dying off. I don’t even think of myself as middle-aged yet, so it never felt right.

We had to stay late at work for forklift recertification. That wasn't what bothered me, it was how long it took to get to the testing afterwards. I went after a few people because I'm salary so I don't have to worry about maxing hours and they do. I finished my test 1.5 hours after the training had technically concluded. There was no reason that I as the fourth trainee should have been that long. My hourly workers barely made it in time before maxing their hours. Tonight I'm grumpy and tired.

Eleven days into the new year and a show already gave a character I like the whole "Once this job is over, we're out" fade into death scene speech tonight. Grrrr.

I work for an insurance company, and was assigned a claim earlier this week where our insured struck a claimant's vehicle with an RV they had rented. Our insured took out liability coverage through the rental company, so the claimant needs to reach out to that company to get their vehicle repaired. The claimant only speaks Spanish, and I've advised them of what they should do three times through a translator. Every call ends with him saying he understands and accepting the contact info for the relevant party, then the next day I get a call asking when we're going to fix his vehicle. I understand the difficulties in conveying a complex situation across a language barrier, but it's getting pretty frustrating.

I transferred over to the silica manufacturing department of our company ten months ago. I am responsible for making sure our inventory stays accurate. Today I learned that I have been doing this wrong the whole time. I have been inventorying things based on the units on the outside of the bottles. Today I got a list of over 100 items that need to be converted from grams to milliliters or vice versa. Now I need to go back in next week and find out just how messed up our stock actually is.

I moved into my place about 4 months ago. I've been meaning to get someone to check the water softener because it seems like it's not working. Finally got someone in and they informed me that the water softener had not cycled in over 400 days. On the upside, I should have proper water withing 2-3 days.

Retroactively angry at crazy aunt and her brood today. Years ago when my mom bought her old phone, these clowns set it up for her and FAILED TO WRITE DOWN ANYTHING RELATED TO IT. No passwords for any accounts they set up, not even the damn phone number.
She bought a new one recently, the old one's no longer updated and is starting to go downhill. This time, the task fell to me.
The activation itself went well, save for a minor tussle with her phone plan to get it recognized and using the same number. I'd already managed to break into her gmail account to get that password reset, so I had that handy when it wanted to log into Google. I'd gotten the settings to work to brighten the display and keep it from going into sleep mode every thirty seconds. It was almost perfect.
There was just one thing: FACEBOOK. Said clowns, in addition to not writing down the damn password, never attached her gmail account to her Facebook account. My house is out in the sticks, so cell reception is spotty at best, making it a horrific process to get any kind of verification code over text.
It quite literally took me all night to get that code, as well as shuffling around the house trying to find somewhere with decent enough reception for it to arrive.
Needless to say, that password is reset and her gmail is now attached to it so I don't have to go through that ordeal again.
EDIT: So it turned out that it was idiot nephew that initially set up stuff (crazy aunt and her brood messed around afterward) and my mom actually did have the passwords squirreled away. Ah well, everything's still good.

I saw my brother and his wife the other day, and my mum always says how nice it is to see them and whatever else, but it's not really for me.
Don't get me wrong, I love my brother, they're both great people in fact. But spending hours having to listen to them talking with my parents about their plans to buy a house when I'll probably never be able to afford to wasn't especially enjoyable. My brother is someone who spent quite a lot of his life f***ing around doing everything wrong, but somehow always landing on his feet; I've spent mine trying to do what I felt as if I should be doing and trying to do things "right", admittedly not always successfully, and I'm still pretty unhappy and unfulfilled. So it really, really grated on me. I hate to say it, but I didn't really enjoy their wedding last year very much either, because my last relationship ended in a really horrible, messy way for stupid reasons, and it was all a reminder of what I was missing out on, and I had to spend the day pretending I was really happy so I didn't make it weird for them, when in a lot of ways I wasn't.
And yes, I absolutely am jealous, and yes, I know this stuff shouldn't be about me and that it's my problem and not theirs, which makes it harder because I also feel really, really guilty about feeling that way.
Also, something on a really good pair of headphones I own has broken off inside one of the earpieces, and I can hear it rattling around whenever I move my head.
