I expect it to make a lot of money in Japan when it airs there at the end of the month.

Movie was a lot of fun. While I do kind of wish they fleshed some things out a bit more story wise, I do feel like this was a love letter to the Mario (and DK) franchise. So I cannot say this movie didn't have heart. Curious to see where they go in the sequel if/when it gets greenlit.

In any case, they definitely alluded to Rosalina and other stuff from Galaxies probably coming, if not next time, than in a third or spinoff.

Plus given it's animated and not live action that'll be a factor.

Critics should never doubt Chris Pratt.

I loved it, but then I've been a Mario fan for 80% of my life. Loved all the Easter eggs as well. The bar called Punch Out and the Fzero poster on the wall.

I was grinning like an idiot the entire time. That’s the most fun I’ve had watching a movie in a theater since TMNT 2 in 1991.
I’m going to have to see it again, just because I was paying more attention to the Easter eggs in the background than the actual plot for a lot of it.

So how should the sequel go?
Do they have Kamek hire Wario and promise him all the treasure in The Mushroom Kingdom, introduce The Koopalings and have Bowser's brat pack cause havoc, or have Tatanga invade and introduce Daisy?

Y'know what Nintendo? I am tired of waiting...I'm convinced the Mario franchise's happy ending will happen when Peach and Bowser, not Peach and Mario, get together. Hook them up when the trilogy is complete.

I’m hoping for just a quick scene in the sequel where Bowser meets Wart, who is voiced by KG.

Fun movie. Jack Black going balls deep on singing PEACHES is legendary. That needs to win some sort of legit award.

In all the sequel talk with people, it occurs to me that I haven't thought of the obvious route.
A complaint I've seen some have is "needs more Luigi", and a sequel could add Daisy. I'm sort of expecting Daisy to be a bit of an adrenaline junkie to contrast her with Luigi. Think something like:
"You've just gotta look danger in the eye and tell 'em, "I'M DAISY!" !" "You're kind of scaring me... and I don't mind it?"

You know what they should have done?
Have the Dog from Duck Hunt be the one that antagonisted them in the beginning.
