You know what they should have done? Have the Dog from Duck Hunt be the one that antagonisted them in the beginning. Would've been neat. They already had a Duck Hunt reference without the dog, so that could have been the other half. They actually did have the dog as an easter egg as well, in a painting in that same house with the dog.

So how should the sequel go? Do they have Kamek hire Wario and promise him all the treasure in The Mushroom Kingdom, introduce The Koopalings and have Bowser's brat pack cause havoc, or have Tatanga invade and introduce Daisy? Took the kids to see it last night and they loved it other than my 5 year old hating Jack Black’s singing haha. Not sure which villain they roll out for the sequel but I’m assuming eventually Bowser and Mario are forced to become allies like in some games. Also I’m guessing the mass amount of cash made means the Donkey Kong Country spinoff is greenlit at this point.

Critics should never doubt Chris Pratt. To be fair the initial reveal of his voice sounded like he had just woken up from a nap and was suffering from depression. It was better in the final product. As for the movie, I enjoyed it, For an hour and a half it jammed in as many references as humanly possible. The story had a fast pace which felt a little rushed at times. It did everything it had to and my nephew who I took to this loved it.

Since Ganondorf's hobby in Ocarina of Time is playing the organ, they gotta have him do a song as well in the inevitable Zelda movie.

So how should the sequel go? Do they have Kamek hire Wario and promise him all the treasure in The Mushroom Kingdom If they are going to utilise Wario I'd go a slightly different route. Having Wario and Waluigi as evil Mario and Luigi works in the videogame world but it'd feel strange that in a movie Brooklyn that looks fairly standard to our world that they'd have evil counterparts. In a sequel, you could have Kamek help break Bowser out early on, then to get his revenge Bowser determines the standard villain trope of the best thing to beat the heroes is the heroes themselves. Kamek does some sort of magic where he makes evil versions of them and boom, you've got Wario and Waluigi as henchmen for Bowser. Then they can transition into redeemed antiheroes by the end of the film once they defeat Mario and Luigi, get betrayed by Bowser and then they all team up to beat Bowser together.

My God that was the worst movie I have seen in a long, long time. Uninspired, humorless, and without direction. Chat GPT could have written a better script.

It is possible that the movie can cross the billion dollar mark.

It is possible that the movie can cross the billion dollar mark. If a sequel or DK spin-off wasn't already in the works, it is now. My pondering if this will change the games any in the future. I doubt it until Miyamoto passes on, but you never know.

It is possible that the movie can cross the billion dollar mark. It'll pass $700 million in the next couple of days and is more or less completely unopposed until Guardians of the Galaxy v3 is released on May 5th (the only wide releases between now and then are Beau is Afraid, Guy Ritchie's The Covenant, and Big George Foreman). At this point, a billion looks like the very least it can expect to make.

So I saw this yesterday, and honestly I think sone critics are being too hard on it. But I don’t give a rat’s rump about critical consensus anyway because some of my favorite movies ever are in the 10-30% RT window. This was cute. Maybe a bit underwritten in spots, but it’s a fun inoffensive nod to the games at worse. All the Bowser stuff and Mario learning to manage the “levels” were the best parts.

The movie is at 58% on Rotten Tomatoes out of 235 reviews; which means if 5 reviews are different, it's "fresh", and I think that shows a big issue with these kind of review-aggregation websites.
