I feel like if New Japan did a US based G1 with the talent they have over here it would be a much stronger field. I have never seen a G1 with so little "Must see" feel to it before.

Ibushi, Shingo, Naito on A, Okada, SANADA, and Tanahashi on B, so it feels like they've got some star power on both blocks this go-round.

Yeah it's much more balanced this year. A Block has Shingo, Naito, Ibushi, ZSJ and Ishii- any combination of those 5 will be great matches. KENTA and O-Khan should be more than capable as well.
B Block then has Okada, Tana, SANADA and Cobb and again, any combonation of those 4 should be great. Taichi and YOSHI HASHI also very able with their in ring improvements the last year to go with the aforementioned.

The real issue I have this year is I don't see any "WOW HOLY SHIT I HAVE TO SEE THIS!!!" match in either block. A-block I'd say Ibushi Vs. Ishii and Ibushi Vs. Shingo are the only matches that seem especially interesting. They have matches that will be good, but none that I really think I need to mark on my calender. B-block most of the big matches we've seen like a million times. They might be good matches, but in a lot of cases I don't expect them to really bring much new. They even got the weaker assortment of Bullet Club members (KENTA is much better than EVIL, and at least Yujiro has a character compared to Chase Owens.) Who knows maybe I'm wrong and this G1 will be one of the best ever, but this just seems extraordinarily weak on paper.

I could see ZSJ making the finals. Feels like Okada's year, outside chance of SANADA. Taichi making the finals would be cool, but there's no way he'd win, and I don't see anyone in A Block going all the way.

I just can't see them having Ibushi make it to the G1 Final again for the 4th year in a row You can never go wrong with an Okada/Naito matchup so I will go with that to decide the winner. I'd have to think they are doing some type of American bracket because of the obvious missing guy in Jay White Honestly, yeah...a US one, with the NJPW regulars & Strong guys, as well as outside guys from places like AEW & Impact, they could have a very good US G1 Climax, if they wanted to.

Yeah, like obviously a NJPW regular would win the G1 but it would be fun to have Mox, Archer in the G1 again since they did it before and Minoru is out in the states so throw him in. Can easily fill out the list with others like Karl Anderson

I wouldn't be shocked if Ibushi doesn't, but I do see him possibly beating Shingo for at least a consolation prize, though Naito beating Shingo would also be kind of intriguing. It seems like it sets up nicely for something intriguing There is no real obvious winner tho you expect the usual suspects. Okada hasn't won a G1 in a good min so he's my automatic top option but Gedo has been willing to roll the dice on a few things during the pandemic There is no guarantee Shingo or even the briefcase holder makes it to WK

I don't really follow NJPW so I have no clue on build and stories but have watched the last two G1s so I'll do what I've done before and just root for Ishii. Honestly, rooting for Ishii's always a good move. Angle-wise, I guess the big things would be that EVIL recruited SHO from CHAOS to join the Bullet Club, so Okada, Goto, and YOSHI-TASHI would probably have particular beef with him for their matches. O-Khan and Cobb are probably going to have beef with Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr. since I think they're positioning them to be tag belt challengers soon. Cobb's got a rivalry with Okada as of late. Otherwise, this doesn't really seem to be that angle-heavy a G1 so far. EDIT: oh, forgot the obvious one. EVIL and Yujiro for a while now have been provoking other Bullet Club members, with EVIL not respecting Jay White as leader. The Tongans have firmly been behind Jay White as leader and regard EVIL with contempt. KENTA's been I think comparatively quieter. EVIL has suggested that Jay should be suspicious of some BC members, which could be bluster, or it could be something that bears fruit. Gedo for his part is obviously a Jay White guy, but as he recruited EVIL, I think he has largely tried to smooth over conflict. All of this is further complicated by Kenny Omega and the other Elite provoking Bullet Club, with KENTA having teamed with Omega reluctantly, and Jay confront Omega on an Impact show, but with no conflict yet because he turned his attention to Finlay and Juice Robinson. I only mention this in case it ends up being part of the bigger story at play here, but I don't think it's necessarily going to come up in the G1 since the principle players are in the US. Are we sure who’s side the Tongans are on? Tama was pretty supportive of and excited for the formation of the House of Torture on Twitter.

Damn. I'm just annoyed at the lack of surprises. I wish New Japan would reach out to names from other companies, but there seems to be a policy against that. Its just such a predictable lineup, with a lot of guys who are really unlikely to put on good matches. Dissapointing.
Also no Kojima no peace.

Tanga Loa AND Tama Tonga? I think I'm gonna gag.
With how little they had to work with I was really hoping Gedo would suck it up and put Sho and Yoh in.
At least the G1 theme appears to be back.

Seeing that KENTA had taken a bit of a back seat lately, I’d love to see him have a huge showing.

I still feel like they should have reached out to the GLEAT roster.
