I’m also just bitter it beat out The A-Team in the box office that year and as a fan of the show, the movie is the best damn representation of a show on the big screen I’ve seen. I enjoyed the hell out of A-Team. Really bummed me out that it performed so poorly that the sequel got nixed. They released it the same day as England’s first World Cup game. Who does that?!

Eh, the concept was a lot better than the execution. First couple movies were ok, third kinda sucked.

I find myself agreeing with the majroity that this series has pretty much already gone the way of the fast and furious and no longer being about what it was originally intended for.
I mean they pretty much skipped over the 90s action stars.

Ugh, one of my pet hates.
Replacing a letter with a Number in the Title.. Expandfourbles, that's how I'm going to read it.
Anyway, I always found the franchise fun. Just basically seeing how many big names they can fit in one movie.

I find myself agreeing with the majroity that this series has pretty much already gone the way of the fast and furious and no longer being about what it was originally intended for. I mean they pretty much skipped over the 90s action stars. Looking at the highest-grossing action stars of the '90s, they haven't used Kurt Russell, Sigourney Weaver, Jackie Chan, Steven Seagal, Linda Hamilton, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Nicholas Cage, Keanu Reeves, Pierce Brosnan, and Will Smith. Smith and Cruise obviously aren't saying yes to an Expendables movie, and Seagal has no redeeming value at this point. Russell is retired as an out-and-out action star, but he's happy to do movies with action in. Everybody else though? I'm sure you could make them a tempting offer. And all that's not even counting the cult action stars of the '90s, like Michael Jai White, Tony Todd, Jean Reno, Peter Weller, Mark Dacascos, Christopher Lambert, Robin Shou, Cynthia Rothrock, and a whole host of others I'm probably blanking on. Any of them would have been an improvement on Liam Hemsworth, Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz, Glen Powell, and the other people nobody gave a shit about in the second and third movies.

"Mortal Kombat" "Mortal Kombat 1" The first Mortal Kombat to me will always be the original released in '92.

So, who is the other chick in the main cast? Hmmm, can you name her without having to look her up, FAN?

$8.3 million opening is major bad news, off a $100 million budget. Maybe international grosses will help. but very likely not enough to avoid a pretty sizeable bomb.
Though this has been a year for a few megabombs, so it won't plumb those depths.
Still. This felt 10 years past the point and novelty, and not being able to have Sly and the rest of the cast go out and promote it due to the strikes hurt it further.
I'm fond of The Expendables 2. That feels like really the only one where the mix worked the best.

That feels like really the only one where the mix worked the best. I enjoyed the novelty of the first as well. Third film showed the limits of the concept, by going too overboard on the casting(and also making some big whiffs on some of the casting). And now this one, well one of the criticisms of the first three was using a lot of past their prime action stars, and now they go and add a decade to their ages. Not terribly surprised this one is a dud.

after 2 they pretty much went and threw out the initial concept of the series by bringing in younger blood.
I mentioned it before but they pretty much skipped the action stars of the 90s.
And most of the promotion that I saw revolving around Megan Fox felt like a real low key desperate attempt to get people to watch it.

I just saw the first one for the first time. For some reason I thought they were pg-13, but once I saw the first kill of the movie I realized it was not pg-13.

Even the second movie moved in that direction, but at least had the good grace to have Liam Hemsworth murdered in the first act. The third movie would have been better if we'd gotten Stallone's Expendables vs. Mel Gibson's young Expendables. But then we might have been subjected to more of Ronda's "acting."
