On paper, I really don't mind the idea of Jericho working a midcard tag match and mini-angle with Page and Skye. It'll give them some more exposure and hopefully, even when they lose, they'll get a little rub from it.
But, the association with Lambert makes this crazy to me. After all of the things he's been saying about the AEW locker room being full of new, flippy wrestlers that nobody cares about, the person who comes out to shut him up is Chris Jericho? A guy that is neither new nor flippy. Where's the sense in that? Sammy would have been a better pick and it's not as if he's been up to much lately.
And yes, that homophobic joke has no place in wrestling in 2021, and especially in AEW.

Won't be able to watch Dynamite for a while, what did Jericho say? Asked which one of America Top Team was the “top.”

I can't believe how many people don't like Lambert. He's been great. He's basically made himself into the living embodiment of Attitude Era fans criticism of AEW. And people hate him because he reminds them of the idiots on Twitter. He's not a shithead carny like Cornette, he's just playing his part really well. He's the perfect establishment figure in an anti-establishment promotion.

Its just to attempt putting over Scorpio and Ethan. And btw imo Ethan has gotten Xpac heat so far, they have really botched him with the Sting and Darby feud. Honestly as someone without a lot of prior exposure to Ethan I'm still waiting for any reason to even slightly care about him. It would be nice if AEW would let him talk again. Feels like when WWE muted EC3 for whatever reason.

Genuine question. Was the "Which one on American Top Team is the Top?" really a flat out homophobic joke when there were multiple women in the ring who were also a part of ATT?
I'm not saying the joke was good but it could have just as easily implied that the girls would be on "top" and be better/superior to the guys. Again not saying that's a good joke... but in that context it's not "Disgustingly homophobic".

I was more looking at it like "Is it just an outright homophobic joke?". And yes my thought was a more sub/dom joke... but an in general one. He could have just done without saying it in general since it's seemed to piss so many people off.

So I think the reason they did this is because like Jericho or not... he is seen as an AEW ambassador and a measuring stick. Almost like a guardian of sorts. The crowds love him and he's one of the spirits of AEW as a whole. So I think the rationale is Jericho is sticking up for everyone in AEW including those young guns (One of which is his close friend in Sammy) by going after Lambert and questioning his philosophies as an older head himself.

Your suggestion isn't exactly better anyway. I also think that the woman in the ring would have needed to be acknowledged in any kind of way to have been considered part of the discussion.

For the record I wasn't trying to change your opinion... I just wasn't sure if what I was hearing was the same as others or the direct intention. I still said it shouldn't have been said anyway just for the basic fact it could be misconstrued like this or taken the wrong way.

This week was an improvement because they had women in the stable now too.
Not being sarcastic I genuinely want both of these chicks to get signed and receive a huge push now.

I'd say no, just because the terminology of Top and Bottom is very much more recognised as a part of gay sex language, and mainstream recognised terms at that. I think he knew what he was doing, it was homophobic and another example of AEW management really needing to vet what people are saying before letting them go out and say it, or at least having more strict guidelines around improv if they are letting people do their own thing. It's not the end of the world, it's a pretty tame joke all things considered, but it's just tired, unfunny and shows more about the person making the 'joke' and who thinks it's funny than anything else.

I thought I saw Paige but never heard her name: that was super weird. Also, in my opinion, Jericho's coment was 100% meant to be a homophobic insult. It sucked.

But he was insulting the men in the ring by insinuating they're gay using the top/bottom terminology. Which is an outright homophobic joke. Trying to make it into anything else is a huge stretch. Spinning it into "the girls are superior to the guys" is not anything that was implied at all.

Punk did mention the girls (although I didn't know who Van Zant was at the time); and given they were if anything more spotlighted than the men on camera (if only due to the one hamming it up behind Lambert), I didn't take it as a homophobic joke per se, but just a lame one (which was really the case with most of what Jericho said, but the crowd ate it up, so....).
Also, saying the women were obviously not included when Jericho referred to the team, they are part of the team, and they're standing right there in the ring is... kind of a stretch, IMO.

I think he's great tbh. The crowd were really into the segment with Jericho too.
Lambert with Hager makes perfect sense. I'm low-key hoping for a heel turn here.

The crowd eating up what Jericho said doesnt make it better, if anything it makes it worse cos it means that crowd loved them some homophobia.
That shouldnt even be an option for them to love.
Liking AEW, or even Jericho, shouldn't make them totally immune to criticism when the criticism is justified, as it is when they let shit like this go out on their TV.
