My problem with Cage is, he's had a good run in AEW, honestly, but if I try to think of giving him something bigger to do, there has always been several better options.
World champion? Definitely better options.
TNT champion? Miro did anything Cage would have done with it, and did it better.
Tag champs? With who? And even if they teamed him with someone, this is the tag division out of any company's with the most depth, it must be said, and there are literally a dozen teams that'd be better champions than a team he'd be on.
If Cage doesn't re-sign with AEW or leaves for whatever reason, I definitely wouldn't categorize his run there as a bust, but yeah, this isn't Impact during his tenure. It's a bigger, deeper pond, big a fish as he is.

Always known Cage was never going to be able to thrive the way he wants here because his whole act relies on him being able to stand out in some way. in AEW he is just another hoss sad to say and hasn't really been given anything to sink his teeth into story wise from what I have seen. Honestly? I think a big thing for Cage is he is no longer a big fish in a small pond. He just doesn't stick out as much as he did in other threads. Throw in that he gets hurt a lot and it's hard for him to get over

I wouldn't say Hook is over besides as a meme here. I see him trending on twitter pretty often when he is on the show.

The problem with Cage is once you get past the initial visual impressiveness of his act, you notice there's not a whole lot of substance under it. It's not just an AEW situation, he was cycled out of PWG years ago because it just got stale after a while. The best wrestlers know when to freshen up their act, or add a new dimension. Cage never does; in fact the closest thing we saw on that end was LU giving him a metal glove, but beyond that he was still basically the same dude doing the same stuff every show.

I honestly thought he lost a lot of momentum after he left the X Division in Impact (where he stood out) now granted... dude suffered a fairly serious back injury initially after winning the title. But even in AEW you see what guys like Luchasaurus, Archer, Brodie, Miro, and Wardlow did and Cage just doesn't stick out. Of course I could be wrong but I also kind of think the idea of Team Taz was to have Starks be the fall guy and he immediately started to overshadow Cage

Like, I think he was the fall guy to an extent for the Darby feud, but I also feel like they wanted to groom Ricky for bigger things. It just happened quicker than expected, it feels like, since Ricky has a ton of presence.

I think that's my thing with Cage where it's hard for me to sustain caring about him beyond how impressed I am that someone that bulked up can be that agile and athletic. Like, the dude has no real concept of in-ring storytelling. He reminds me of the so-called "spot monkeys" that got derided for doing all the "flippy shit" without real psychology involved.
I mean, he's had a good run in AEW, but I don't think he can truly thrive outside of somewhere like Lucha Underground that plays to his strengths while hiding his shortcomings.

Brian looks a bit busy here...Monster vs. Machine? No bullshit though Cage and Braun would be a really awesome tag team idea.

Brian looks a bit busy here...Monster vs. Machine? It's like that Billy Gunn in the AEW battle royal situation, where he made everybody else look small. Braun's always been a big dude in the land of giants, but he makes Cage look tiny.

Like compared to other main eventer like AJ and Reigns.

Good grief, are we still talking about this crap? I'm honestly surprised this thread hasn't turned into a discussion about Omelettes or something.

Yeah, Cage is like Cena where he's not that tall (I think Cena is only like 6' or 6'1"), but really bulky.

Brian looks a bit busy here...Monster vs. Machine? Do I want to read his shirt? I don't know if I want to read his shirt, considering what we can already see.

Has anyone mentioned that Cage is one of 8 men along with TJP who could be the new XPW Champion???

Has anyone mentioned that Cage is one of 8 men along with TJP who could be the new XPW Champion??? I do like how guys like Colby Corino elected not to do the show once they were called out for it, and I wouldn't expect G-Raver or Shlak to be too concerned with their images, but it's surprising that apparently Cage and Willie Mack are cool with working for Rob Black.
