Personally I would be fine with Meltzer being put on the "ban" list. Not because I think he's worthless as a source of information but because if I never had to see another protracted debate about him and how he hates women because he said a naughty thing about one of their matches, or is biased for this company or against that company, or any of the other usually vastly overblown criticisms leveled at him in ridiculous wrestling fan point-scoring contests, it would be too soon.

Man it still seems like such a weirdo move to be a white knight for a wrestling journalist. To me atleast. Not as weird as Meltzer derangement syndrome and allowing him to live up there rent free running laps 24/7. Ehhhhhh it’s about the same levels of weirdo behavior

I feel like if anything we need to ban "news" from Meltzer's Podcast but not from WON. They are usually the less reliable piece of info he gets and it is often passed around as solid facts even when he makes it clear it isnt. It's because people don't understand that on the podcast he speaks in hypotheticals all the time. He'll say maybe or could and yet somehow that turns into Dave said this is for sure happening. I can only imagine how many less Meltzer related fights we'd have if this was just disclaimer'd more. Meltzer didn't write this up on the Newsletter. He didn't know for sure. He said a ballpark estimate on a Podcast that turned out to be lower but still seemed to have some basis behind it. And everyone just got stuck on Meltzer being wrong for not saying 700 instead of 1500... and being a "clown" for it. It's really tedious and tiring to see these threads happen over and over again about Meltzer. It's giving me Cornette vibes until his threads eventually got banned here. I don't think Meltz needs to be banned as a source. But I do think that people need to start sourcing what he said and how he's saying it. Alvarez has to constantly scream into the microphone anymore that what he is saying is just speculation or how he feels on something so dirtsheets don't immediately scoop it and run it like he's breaking news in some factual manner. THIS shit is exactly why he's forced to do that. Meltzer isn't perfect but the dude gets so much unnecessary bullshit piled onto him from the community and wrestlers themselves who pretend they have no clue who he is yet write up a dozen tweets about him to try and act like they're superior or something and he's some sort of peon beneath them... it's f***ing grade school bullshit. From all sides frankly. It's really f***ing creepy how rent free the guy who goes "Yeah um well yknow well uh" lives in some peoples heads.

We need that dirtsheet report gimmick so badly. It'd be perfect for NXT 2.0.

I think it's more weird for a working wrestler to attack a journalist in a "let's simp for a company that doesn't care about me" Let's be real Bryan Alvarez is way harder on WWE than Dave ever is but it's always Dave they go after, it's an agenda move. This is an incredibly odd way to describe this series of events. That Alexa sought out poor Dave in a random act of standing up for WWE. Dave made a mean spirited an obviously factually wrong comment about her - not the WWE. He didn't say the show was so bad that people left, he said that literally circa 20% of the crowd got up and bolted because they hated her segment. That then got picked up by multiple other online sources (and reported as a credible story from Dave Meltzer) and found its way into her mentions. Again, mentions criticising her, not the WWE. This ! She is clearly defending herself and she has every right to. And if for any reason she was defending WWE here, So what ? Imo over 90% of wrestlers today would defend the company they work for.

We should start putting Meltzer quotes on the ban list. The guy is completely unreliable. He's someone I don't feel strongly about one way or the other, so I have a hard time understanding all of the energy that goes into both bashing and defending him. I don't blame Alexa for defending herself and her segment though, even if I think she should've just left it at that one tweet and moved on.

Holy shit, guys, this thread is embarrassing at this point.
No, we're not "banning Dave Meltzer".
Dave Meltzer said something on his podcast/radio show; he did not directly report something in the Observer and treat it as "this is factual". It was "a source told me this, and I'm commenting on it on my much more casual radio show". Both he and Alvarez received reports that a considerable number of people left during a segment; looks like one number might've been a high estimate, but we don't really know for sure.
Dave Meltzer never said "AEW fans are smart and rich and attractive and WWE fans are dumb and ugly". He reported something Tony Khan said which was then backed up and verified by other reporters via available demographic information. This isn't some controversial statement, it is what we can glean based on publicly available information.
If you, yes, you cannot follow that, and instead turn it an excuse to rant on "Meltzer is a troll/shill/whatever", that's on you, not on Meltzer or any other wrestling journalist.
I am sick as shit of threads that turn into gigantic circle jerks where people leap to a conclusion on something, people come in and rightly correct them for omitting important or pertinent context and information, and then the circle jerk just continues because "lol nah let's just keep saying the same shit repeatedly because it suits what we want to think reality is". It derails threads and turns these conversations into utter wastes of time.
So here, f*** it, locked. Cut it the f*** out or more threads are getting locked, because this is just sad.
