For every claim Eric has made about someone like Meltzer or Alvarez lying, Bischoff himself has told ten lies.

I do agree with Bischoff that Tony’s comment about Ted Turner was out of line. Ted liked Ric Flair and was loyal to wrestling for helping build his empire, but he didn’t pay attention to wrestling. If he had, Ric would not have been in-and-out so often with the company. He didn’t even know that RAW was on Monday when he green lit Nitro. Tony was 100% correct on that. Tony also prefaced that comment carefully by saying he probably isn’t overall smarter than Turner, and he probably isn’t considering it’s Ted Turner. I didn't read the quote nor this thread but I will respond to this In fairness, he liked old school wrasslin but it was a business to him. He kept it despite it losing money because he can. For TK this is a business and a passion. You tend to straggle the line of sense when you involve both tho TK has a tendency to talk a little too much but I don't mind it

I just want Matt's on-screen reaction, he should act like a conquering hero, taking all Bunny's credit.

I mean, the worst case scenario in terms of WWE for new deals is, honestly, to be offered the same amount as they have now. Most of these deals have been reliant on them growing term by term and whilst another billion sounds good to us, the last time it happened that the money itself didn’t grow, it lead to a big talent cut because the shareholders flipped out. Turner are basically obligated to offer more money to AEW, they’d be crazy not to at this point. Yeah, WWE's status as a publicly traded company means "don't worry, Fox/NBC gave us the same money as they gave us five years ago!" isn't going to cut it with investors. The batshit insane curse of Wall Street is the need to demonstrate perpetual growth, which is literally impossible to achieve for anybody, but all the MBAs running the show for a couple of years before jumping ship when things go south (hi, Nick Khan) have to put on the dog and pony show telling investors "don't you worry, we're only goin' up, up, up from here!" Then they don't, and tons of people lose their jobs despite the company being enormously profitable. AEW is going to see a massive spike in its rights fees, and they'll no doubt point to WWE's deals when arguing for said increase with networks. I'm not about to predict WWE's fees falling, I totally get the "I'll believe it when I finally see it" mind set, but we have to bear in mind that we haven't seen WWE negotiate a TV deal with any legitimate competition around since WCW was a thing; the terrain will be quite different this time. That could be to WWE's benefit: perhaps the perception of a "wrestling war" makes them a more desirable product. It could also be to their detriment: as has been said often, it might not serve them well if Fox and NBC are looking at AEW and thinking "wait, we could've had similar demo numbers at an over 80% discount?" Obviously the gap between the two companies won't be that large once AEW gets its next TV deal, but even if suddenly, hypothetically speaking, AEW goes from a $45 million deal to a $100 million deal that's still a big gap between the two. Granted, WWE retains an edge on actual content produced: Raw and SD are 5 hours combined, Dynamite and Rampage only 3 (I think NXT is technically on a separate deal?), so that'll account for some of the gap, for sure. But with Warner apparently already in talks with AEW for more content, who knows what that ends up looking like? I guess we can put Rhodes to the Top in the equation, at least indirectly, as well. It depends what you believe is how I view it. If the news is true that the networks have been upset with the WWE, I don't see how that can equal more money or the same. Fox has a history of cancelling shows pretty quickly and at times viewers where not expecting it. So I wouldn't say its a lock but I know there made seeing Smackdown on a NBC platform with Peacock. USA while having a very long business partnership over the years, they look at WWE numbers steadily falling. Plus been more reports that they are upset how they get short end of the stick when it comes to big matches, what talent is there as is when a big return happens where they go. Which maybe they be happy now that they got moved to Raw. As for a s Becky is concerned. However the ratings haven't gotten better, now yes MNF is playing a monster role. The true test will be after the season how much of a rebound there is but even before that, They barely touched 2 Million. Now if AEW maintains there 1 Million plus after the TBS move and grows To get equal or more viewers, USA is going to start thinking about ok why playing more for something that the other company is playing less with the same results? Not saying this will happen but I'm sure its very possible.

I’d be pretty sure FOX will at least get a new term with them. For all the talk about lower ratings than expected, it still does well on the day in 18-49 and has kept consistent. Also, nothing they have is likely going to do as well on that day since, well, it’s still a Friday and you’re not going to put any of your heavy hitters down there.
Can’t also see USA dropping their amount because, let’s be honest, Raw’s the reason they’re as high as they are in terms of network standing so if that was gone, they’re pretty screwed. There’s only so many Law and Order re-runs you can live off before you need to do better with original content. Chucky seems like a good start, for the record.

Gotta add to the TV money talk, if I was in the AEW roster, I'd make it my mission to stay on the roster, and notable in the roster, when they get that new deal. Because whoever is a star at that time? Is gonna be set for life. The interesting part of that is the fact we’re coming up on three years since the start of the company, when most who signed early signed three year deals. Meltzer says that at least some, ie Jericho and the Young Bucks specifically, do have one year options on top of that so they can wait another year. But there may be some big changes to salary very soon if at least some of the big names don’t have an option in their deal.

So yes, WCW did lose an average of $6 million a year pre-Hogan, but they also weren’t getting paid a dime to produce pretty highly rated television every single weekend of the year. And that’s not to mention anything the company produced that went towards other Turner properties, like Turner Home Video.

Yes it’s important to remember that a lot of WCW’s “losses” were paper losses since they were not being paid what they would have been had they not been owned by the network.

Hence TK celebration for last weeks ratings. The only time actual total viewership has been praised is when it's like record breaking or extremely high. Like when Walking Dead was pulling 10 million an episode or something The key demo is always what is ranked and put above anything else. It's why certain shows that draw 300-400K still top the charts and get renewed... because their key demo is really high. It just matters.

I always find it funny that this demo discourse all started during the Wednesday Night Wars which ended up being the difference between AEW winning 74/75 weeks and AEW winning 62/75 weeks. Either way, they won decisively.

Not head to head, but I think we see what a big difference FOX vs. FS1 makes for Smackdown: “WWE Smackdown last week Friday on Fox was watched by 2,249,000 viewers on average. 759,000 viewers were aged 18 to 49 (0.58 rating). AEW Rampage on TNT was watched by 533,000, including 288,000 aged 18 to 49 (0.22 rating).“ mobile.twitter.com/BrandonThurston/status/1452726224585904136

Because no shit Smackdown's ratings on Fox are going to be better than anything AEW does. Network is a completely different game from basic cable.

I think the focus on ratings on both sides is more than a bit tedious but if I were in Tony's position as a rival company to a long-established juggernaut, I would be saying not only can we beat the, but we will. They have nothing to lose. And what's the point in competing if you don't believe you can win?

I think FS1 goes even further than that though with how deep the ratings drop. Despite FOX being in around 50% more homes than FS1, the ratings were approximately 3 times as high on FOX. I’d imagine if they were let’s say being moved to USA for a week they would be getting closer to their Raw numbers. While the number of homes they are in is somewhat similar, FS1‘s average viewership is something like 1/3 of TNT’s.
