Love Tony calling his shot. He is going to win. And when he does I hope he spikes the football in their face.
Competition is good. Being motivated is awesome. Believing in yourself is even better. All this talk of “toxicity” - please. Those online wrestling fans have only themselves to blame for becoming so sensitive over the last few years. Everyone should stop taking themselves, and wrestling, so seriously.

Okay well I appreciate him outright stating that he is fueling the tribalistic nature under the guys of competition. I understand his desire to create that kind of environment but everything in the world is on tilt now and reactions are no different. I am certainly no saint whatsoever in the over-analyzing/overdramatizing department but I do not feel like I am (and possibly thousands of others) totally inaccurate in that it's causing an unnecessary divide and there should be a way to avoid that.

Everytime stuff like this comes up I go "does it really matter?" People are going to choose sides and go to war regardless of what is said. Smackdown has never done a runover, or at least in recent memory. Now all the sudden they do it the first chance they get when aew has a Friday show. Don't know what wwe gets out of it besides doing this to eat into their competitions numbers. Whatever, it's a one week thing, either doesn't really matter in the long run either way.

Also I've seen dudes jumped at Yankees/Red Sox games. The wrestling fandom isn't that toxic. Like no one's getting stabbed. There's just some trolls on message boards. Most people seem to have found a show they like and want it to succeed. That's pretty cool!

I think it says something that people are willing to defend WWE stamping out a far smaller company that won't ever be in their league being on a third-rate streaming service "because business," but wring their hands and cluck their tongues over Tony Khan making a tweet because "omg that's toxic."
Some of y'all really need to re-adjust your priorities.

WWE as stated in another thread is basically Walmart and Starbucks at this point.

Some of y'all really need to re-adjust your priorities. Also, people tend to forget that WWE is a publically traded company. If their stock plummets millions are affected so their entire business switched from protecting themselves as an entity to protecting the shareholders. This is not much different than most of corporate America. Their business practices are morally bunk but so commonplace that I think it's become hard for some to completely villainize them as wrestling stopped being their game when they went public. Maybe the general populace, hell even myself, have become numb to it and the releases etc that it just becomes what they do.

I can see a couple sides to this.
1. I wish Tony and people in AEW would stop. It feeds the trolls, and it makes the "I'm an AEW fan, you are a WWE fan, so you're scum!" more legit. When, I'd wager, for people like myself who have fallen away from WWE. I don't want AEW to kill WWE, I just want their success to lean on WWE to force them to make changes for the better so I can enjoy both.
2. I can, kinda, understand where he's coming from. While it's not like he has a Midas touch with AEW and there have been mistakes and downfalls... the things AEW has gotten right have far outnumbered what they've gotten wrong. Plus, to have guys like Adam Cole and Bryan Danielson come over. Plus doing, what was once thought, as impossible by bringing Punk back to wrestling AND being able to give Owen Hart his due. Man, in his position, I'd be pretty hard-pressed to stay humble as well. I just hope he can reign it in, because an overabundance of bravado is exactly what brought Vince to his peak, but also kept him so sheltered inside his own bubble of "I'm a genius, and I'll tell you what to like" that an AEW had to exist to counteract that.
3. I can't deny I'm pro-AEW. So... part of me giggles when I see this stuff because I've been so disenchanted by WWE for so long. And while that makes me part of the problem, I have trouble seeing Tony as anything but a savior towards my love of wrestling. So while I CAN be critical.... I do so while, simultaneously, like/retweeting his bravado.

I like AEW itself but I find Tony to be obnoxious with the tweeting.
Just worry about putting on a good show instead of taking silly shots and patting yourself on the back.

If "worrying only about making a good product" was all that mattered, marketing would not be a concept.
Sorry guys, hyping competition is a huge marketing device that every other industry uses.
