I’m guessing either Swerve or Lee.

CM Punk: Everyone knows that the person who got that call is gonna say, "I'm very happy here in AEW and have no desire to return to WWE." What do you expect them to go on the record with? "I hate it here, omg, shit's so ridiculous" so they get tons of heat? Especially if their representative talked with AEW about the discussion.

That's really stupid to do. That's how you get sued. It's also not the first time this has come up.

It’s not a league with a governing body like MLB, NFL, MLB that has specific rules on contract tampering. A potential lawsuit would be tortious interference with a contract, but just calling someone and asking them when they’re free and whether they’re going to be looking to leave or not when they are is not really interfering with the contract. If they were trying to get them to breach the contract and sign with them that would be something else.

Somebody is presumably offering you a new job with (maybe) better pay and you think your current boss "deserves to know" and you don't even get anything out of it?! Y'all hustling backwards

If they were trying to get them to breach the contract and sign with them that would be something else. It is a legal issue and there have been issues with this before with MLW and WWE. There's a reason Tony Khan has said many times publicly he has not talked to talent directly in WWE or even those on 90 non-compete clauses. He doesn't want to even get close to being in that area. This is just stupid on his part to do. The report specifically mentions that WWE knew they were under a long term contract and contacting them for the purpose of getting out of their contract and looking to leave would be a bad idea. Like at least do it through intermediaries if you feel the need to.

Yeah they gotta be really careful with that, HHH has to work with what he has after the bridges Vince burnt with some talents. A lot of the guys in AEW are sured up for five years or more, he can't be trying to buy them out no matter how much he might want them back

It’s a dangerous line to be walking, inquiring about any information regarding a locked and signed contract could get them in trouble. Pretty sure any contract talk beyond “are you under contract or on a PPA deal?” could cause problems. WWE kicked up a stink for Jeff Hardy saying he planned on going to AEW after he was fired but before his 90 days expired

Y'all hustling backwards Yes and no. Like yeah, you really don't owe it to anyone to make career moves that aren't in your best interest, obviously, but I can also see them wanting to not have a situation misconstrued if it might bite them in the ass later.

Asking about how much time they have left and if they’d be interested in coming back is not tortious interference.

I nearly got fired from a job because my old boss stopped by at my work and offered me a new job. Word got back to my current boss that I was using work time to try and find a new job, and I nearly got shitcanned until I convinced my boss that it was an out of the blue offer, I immediately turned it down, and that I wasn’t even looking to leave my current job.

If they did get something out of it that's not something that would be reported either - no need to volunteer that to any others who may have been contacted. But I agree that were it me it would definitely not be free information.

Y'all hustling backwards How can the person use that to their advantage if they're a contracted full time worker who won't be a free agent anytime soon? If they kept that to themselves and suddenly wanted a release or half-assed it to get out of the contract and it got found out later, it'd be outright poaching. And companies have been sued for poaching even at-will employees and gotten as far as successful injunctions. When it's a breach of contract? That's a whole other can of worms.

Y'all hustling backwards Literally my first thought, lmaooo. Hope the boot was tasty cuz you just f***ed up the spot for a whole lot of folks who probably got the same talk for no particular reason. It really is ok to keep shit close to the chest. Good lord, wrestlers need Kevin Nash on speed dial any time something business related pops up

Good lord, wrestlers need Kevin Nash on speed dial any time something business related pops up Back in the day, I used to hate Nash’s mindset of doing nothing fancy or technical in his matches and seemingly doing the bare minimum. Nowadays, I totally get it. You get paid that much and don’t have to do much work for it, and basically spare yourself the painful future that awaited many of his co-workers? The man knew what he was doing.
