I really think that it would have helped Kane and made the story better and longer had Kane won. I would have stretched it out before Taker beat him. But then again, at the time they didn't see Kane having longevity so I get why they went the way they did

We are LIVE from Boston, Massachusetts for Wrestlemania 14! Be prepared for some ATTITUDE as we have 8 exciting matches that are guaranteed to change the course of the WWF!
***Opening contest is a 15 tag team battle Royal, which sees the Legion of Doom return with their new manager Sunny to a monstrous pop! After 5 minutes of action and several eliminations, the final 4 teams are 2 classic 80s teams (LOD and Rock N Roll Express), another former champions from few years ago (Quebecers), and 2 guys from the Nation (Dlo Brown and Mark Henry). LOD give Pierre the doomsday device, and then throw out Jacques to eliminate Quebecers. LOD then attempt to also give Dlo a doomsday but Mark Henry, who had been hiding at ringside for the last few minutes, jumps on the apron and shoves Hawk off the turnbuckle and Hawk falls to the floor, eliminating LOD to big boos! Dlo then gives Robert Gibson the Lowdown, then the Nation guys double team Ricky Morton. Just when nation guys seem to have the victory, Dlo bounces off the ropes... then Gibson jumps back up and dropkicks Dlo, who then falls over the ropes and out to the floor! Rock N Roll Express win the Battle Royal at Wrestlemania!!! A stunned Mark Henry then becomes angry they lost by a fluke , so he takes it out on Morton by giving him a power slam, then Dlo comes back in the ring to attack Gibson and knock him to the mat, then goes up top to frog splash onto Gibson. Express wins but Nation guys get the last laugh as Nation is walks out and Express as laying on the mat as we cut to the next segment.
Next is a Lightheavyweight title match, as champion Taka Michinoku defends against Aguila. After a quick but exciting bout, Taka catches Aguila with a michinoku driver to pin him and retain.
***Third match is a European title match with champion HHH vs Owen Hart. Due to her previous interferences in the past Chyna is forced to be handcuffed to Sgt. Slaughter outside the ring. At one point Owen Hart gets Hunter trapped in a sharpshooter and Chyna tries to go up Hunter but Slaughter is able to hold her back. Slaughter also yells at referee Tim White to "ring the bell", to which Tim White signals for the bell to ring even though HHH did NOT tap out! Hhh just got screwed out of the European title and Owen Hart is the NEW champion!!! Owen then grabs the belt and runs around the ring celebrating and saying "whooooooo", as HHH, Chyna, and the crowd are confused and getting pissed. After Owen runs to the back, HHH then kicks Tim in the stomach and pedigrees him, then grabs the handcuff key from Tim's pocket as Chyna then attacks Slaughter and slams his head into the steel steps. Hhh unlocks Chyna from the handcuffs and Chyna then also pedigrees Slaughter to cheers from the crowd!
For the mixed tag team match, Marc Mero and Sable beat Goldust and Luna Vachon when Sable pins Luna after a powerbomb (dubbed the sablebomb).
***Next is the Intercontinental title match, with Rock defending against Ken Shamrock. Before the match, Kama, Mark Henry, and Dlo Brown triple team Shamrock and try to weaken him for Rocky. However Kenny turns it around within 20 seconds and takes out all 3 Nation guys with a series of suplexes. Rock then attacks Shamrock to signal the bell to ring. Within 2 minutes Rock gives Ken a rock bottom to cover him...only to get a 2! I shocked and desperate Rock then goes outside the ring to grab a chair to bring in the ring to DQ himself, only for the referee to stop him and move the chair away to another location on the mat. Rock then argues with referee, only for Shamrock to grab him and give Rocky a belly to belly suplex backfirst onto the chair! This weakens Rock enough for Shamrock to lock on the angle lock. Rock fights and screams for a good 30 seconds... then the pain is too much and he taps out! Ken Shamrock has won the Intercontinental title!!! After the match the Nation guys help the embarrassed Rock to the back as Shamrock celebrates in the ring with the belt and cheers from the fans!
Next is the Dumpster match for the tag team titles, with champions New Age Outlaws vs Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie. After 10 minutes all 4 fight to the back, then Cactus is able to take out both Outlaws after a pair of double-team DDTs. Terry Funk/Charlie uses a forklift to pick up both guys and dump them into a dumpster and Cactus throws the lid down on them! Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie win tag team titles!
We know get the highly anticipated brother vs brother match, with Undertaker vs Kane for the first time. Paul Bearer is in Kane's corner. The 2 big men brawl for almost 15 minutes, then Kane is able to get the upper hand and gives Undertaker a tombstone to cover him... only for Undertaker to kick out at 2! Kane goes for a 2nd tombstone... but Undertaker reverses it to give Kane his own tombstone for a 2 count. Undertaker picks up Kane again and gives a 2nd tombstone... only for Kane to kick our again at 2! Undertaker gives Kane a third tombstone... this time getting the 3 count! Undertaker beats Kane for his 7th Wrestlemania victory! Kane does attack Undertaker after the match to lay him out with 1 more tombstone though.
The main event is WWF title match, with the controversy Shawn Michaels vs the rebellious Stone Cold Steve Austin. DX is in Shawn's corner, and Mike Tyson the enforcer is wearing a DX shirt, so the deck should be stacked against Austin. Within the first 5 minutes, HHH and Chyna get involved when Hunter throws Austin over the barrier wall. However the main referee notices and Hunter AND Chyna are ordered to return to the back! It's now 1 on 1 with Iron Mike being a wild card outside the ring. After 20 minutes of action, Shawn errors by hitting referee with a flying forearm. Shawn Michaels attempts a super kick, but its blocked and Austin is able to hit him with a stone cold stunner! Austin covers Shawn and Iron Mike counts the 3 count! Stone Cold Steve Austin has won the WWF title! Crowd is going nuts! Afterwards Tyson hands Austin the belt, and Austin hands Tyson an Austin 316 shirt, to which he poses to the crowd. Shawn gets back up and is confused why he counted 3 and why he is holding an Austin 316 shirt. Shawn then challenges Tyson to a fight... which Iron Mike takes out Shawn with 1 right hand to the face! Austin poses with the belt as Jim Ross says "the Austin Era has begun"!

Fantasy booking until Wrestlemania 15...
Next night on Raw Vince McMahon comes out to introduce Stone Cold Steve Austin as the NEW WWF champion. Vince asks Austin to "do the right thing and be a corporate champion " but Austin just gives him the stunner and walks away. Later that night Vince presses charges against Austin for assault and Austin is arrested by police and taken away for the rest of the night. HHH gets mic time in the ring to tell the camera "Shawn you dropped the ball trusting Tyson" and Hunter now proclaims himself as the new DX leader. He then introduces the new DX, which includes himself, Chyna, New Age Outlaws.... AND the returning Sean Waltman (redubbed Xpac)! Despite them being heels the group gets big cheers from the crowd! Also this night Ken Shamrock defends newly won Intercontinental title against Faarooq. Rock comes out and "accidentally " hits Faarooq with the chair, leading to Shamrock to make him tap to ankle lock to retain. Rock then gives other Nation guys the eyebrow signal, leading to all of them turning on Faarooq and attacking him, therefore kicking him out of the Nation.
Unforgiven ppv Faarooq, Shamrock, and Steve Blackman beat Rock, Mark Henry, and Dlo in a 6 man tag. Owen Hart retains European title against Marc Mero (miscommunication between Mero and Sable lead to him losing). Tag team title match is Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie defending against Rock N Roll Express. During the Jim Cornette comes out and surprisingly helps old rivals the Express by hitting Terry Funk/Charlie with his tennis racket to take him out, leading to Ricky Morton to sunset flip o or Cactus/Foley and get the pin. So Rock N Roll Express are WWF tag team champions! Undertaker vs Kane is an Inferno match, in which Undertaker wins when Kane gets his arm caught on fire. Stone Cold Steve Austin is forced to defend WWF title against Goldust where Gerald Brisco is the special referee. Vince McMahon by mistake hits Brisco with the belt when he aims for Austin, leading to Austin to stun Vince, then stun Goldust. Earl Hebner runs out and counts the 3 for Austin to retain.
Next night on Raw Mick Foley turns against Terry Funk and gives his loyalty to Vince and vows to win the WWF title in Vinces honor. Vince asks Mick to prove it by putting him in a hardcore match against Funk that night. Foley is brutal against Funk and busts his head open, then Foley takes out Terry with the mandible claw and wins. Vince names Foley as Dude Love number 1 contender against Austin.
Over the Edge ppv Rock N Roll Express beat LOD to retain tag team belts. Kane beats Vader. Ken Shamrock retains IC belt by making Kama tap out. Owen Hart defends European title against Rock. The Nation interferes which causes Rock to get DQ and Owen retains. Austin is forced to defend WWF title against Dude Love in a Falls Count Anywhere Match, And Gerald Brisco is the timekeeper, AND Pat Patterson is the guest ring announcer, AND Vince McMahon is the special referee! However Undertaker, who had an issue with Vince the week before on Raw, comes out to support Austin outside the ring. After a crazy battle they goes over 20 minutes, Foley runs into Vince by accident when Austin runs out of the way, then Undertaker takes out both Brisco and Patterson with chokeslams through tables, leading to Austin to stunner Foley and use Vince's hand to count to 3 and for him to retain.
The weeks leading up to King of the Ring HHH wins a battle Royal to be top contender for Austin, and mick Foley as Mankind comes out to attack Undertaker on Raw for being involved in title match and "costing him" the title.
King of the Ring ppv New Age Outlaws beat Rock N Roll Expressto regain tag team titles. Final 4 for King of the ring tournament are Ken Shamrock vs Kane , and Rock vs Owen Hart. Kane uses a chair on Ken to get DQ and uses it repeatedly when he is frustrated when he can not beat Shamrock. This leads to Shamrock being weakened and JR wondering "Will Shamrock be ready for the finals". Rock beats Owen after a rock bottom. For the finals Shamrock tries hard but his injuries are too much and Rock gets 2 rock bottoms in to win. Rock is the 1998 king of the ring! Undertaker vs Mankind hell in a cell still happens, with Mankind falling off the top twice, AND falling backfirst into thumbtacks, then Undertaker pins him for the win. Despite being a heel and losing, Foley is given a standing ovation by crowd for his efforts. In the main event, Austin pins HHH after a stunner to retain WWF title.
During the month leading up to Fully Loaded in July Owen Hart makes claims he can beat Ken Shamrock so he is willing to put European title on the line against Ken for his IC title at the ppv. DX vs Nation escalates and HHH vs Rock in 2 out of 3 falls match is announced for Fully Loaded, with the winner getting IC title match at Summerslam. Mankind and Kane beat Outlaws to win Tag team titles, and in a 1 on 1 match the next week on Raw, Kane seems to pin Mankind to become top contender for WWF title after a tombstone, however when "Kane" removes his mask its revealed to be Undertaker! Also just to mess with them both, Vince orders Austin and Undertaker to team at Fuly Loaded for tag team title match, 1 more before they go 1 on 1 for WWF title.
Fully Loaded ppv Ken Shamrock makes Owen Hart tap out to be duel champion (Intercontinental and European)! For 2 out of 3 falls match, Rock gets the first fall, HHH gets the second, then the last fall is a double countout when they brawl outside the ring (its later announced both Rock AND HHH will face Shamrock at Summerslam making it a triple threat). Austin & Undertaker win tag team titles when Undertaker pins Kane after a tombstone.
2 weeks before Summerslam Undertaker and Austin lose titles back to Kane and Mankind. Kane pins Undertaker after 1 chokeslam, then after the fall Undertaker sits up immediately and walks to the back, leading Austin and many others to question if Undertaker lost on purpose here. On Raw before Summerslam Dlo Brown beats Ken Shamrock to win European championship when Rock interfered to help his Nation buddy.
Summerslam PPV Dlo Brown has to defend newly won European title against Val Venis (who debuted about 2 months before this). Val wins By DQ when Nations guys interfere , so Dlo retains. Xpac beats Jeff Jarrett in a hair vs hair match, in which JJ gets haircut and starts going with the buzz cut. Kane and Mankind are supposed to defend tag belts in a Hardcore match against Outlaws, but Kane no shows and Foley/Mankind is forced to go alone. Outlaws are able to beat Foley within 10 minutes to regain the titles. After the match Kane suddenly appears and turns on Mankind to attack him and tombstone him. HHH wins Intercontinental title beating out Shamrock and Rock when he pinned Rock after a pedigree. Austin beats Undertaker after the stunner to retain WWF title.
During next couples weeks Undertaker transitions to heel , starts teaming with Kane, and even agrees to side with Vince to take down Austin in exchange for becoming WWF champion.
Breakdown ppv Owen Hart beats Xpac. Dlo Brown with help from Mark Henry pins Val Venis to retain European title. Hhh beats Rock in a ladder match to retain IC title. WWF title is a triple threat, with Austin vs Undertaker vs Kane, or more or less Austin in a handicap match. The battle proves too much for Austin as within 15 minutes the brothers of destruction take out Austin with a double chokeslam, then Undertaker also chokeslams Kane to turn on him, then Undertaker pins Austin to win WWF title!
Judgment Day ppv Christian ends Taka Michinoku's 10 month Lightheavyweight title reign to be second champion! Rock pins Mankind after a people's elbow to become number 1 contender for WWF title (Rock is transitioning AWAY from Nation at this point). Ken Shamrock pins HHH after a series of suplexes to regain Intercontinental title! Shamrock also turns heel by snapping and putting HHH in the ankle lock after the bell (HHH is made to look injuried for a couple months) Undertaker defends WWF title against Kane with Steve Austin as special referee. Vince tells Austin he MUST award the title to the winner or he is FIRED. Paul Bearer makes his return and sides with Undertaker again as he hands Undertaker the urn to knock out Kane. Undertaker attempts to pin Kane but Austin is like "screw this your not winning this way" and stuns Undertaker. With both men on the mat Austin's hands hit the mat 3 times and he signals the bell. Austin gets on the mic and says "and the winner of the match... Stone Cold Steve Austin"! Vince then comes out and says "Austin... screw you... your fired!!!". Austin then flips off Vince and salutes the crowd as the show ends.
Next night on Raw Vince opens with a big celebration since Austin is supposed to be gone... until Austin sneaks up on Vince to hold him hostage with a gun for half the night. At the end of the night Austin gets Vince in the ring alone and has the gun say "Bang 316" and he stuns Vince (Vince also "pissed his pants"). Next week on Raw Austin reveals he was rehired to WWF and its was Vince's son Shane McMahon that did so. Shane comes out and says he wants to be his own man now. The Raw before Survivor series, Vince awards Mankind the Hardcore title. Since he also came out to attack Rock at the end of the night, Mankind is added to WWF title match (survivor series title match is Undertaker vs Rock vs Mankind 3 way).
Survivor Series ppv Austin beats Big Boss Man (recently returned as Vince's security) by DQ when Bossman uses nightstick to repeatedly attack Austin's ribs, therefore making him seem "injuried". When Shane also comes out to seem to help Austin, Shane turns on Austin and helps Bossman attack Austin, and both McMahons are in league with each other all along. For WWF title match, Kane interferes to keep Undertaker preoccupied while Rock puts Mankind in the sharpshooter and Vince, who came back out with Shane, calls for the bell and Rock is the NEW WWF champion! Corporation is formed with McMahons, Rock, Shamrock, Bossman, and the debuting Test within a few weeks.
Rock Bottom ppv Bossman and Shamrock beat Outlaws to win tag team titles (Shamrock is a duel champion). Rock beats Xpac to retain WWF title. Mankind defends Hardcore title successful against Owen Hart. Austin beats Undertaker in Buried Alive Match when Kane interferes and helps Austin. Austin now gets to enter Royal Rumble for chance at Wrestlemania title shot.
Royal Rumble ppv Bossman beats Mankind with Corporation help to win Hardcore title. Vince also announces that MANKIND is banned from the Rumble match. Rock beats HHH after a people's elbow and AFTER Chyna turns on HHH with a low blow. For the Rumble match, Austin enters 1 and Vince enters 2. Vince spends the majority of the Rumble outside the ring doing commentary. 25 enters... and its Cactus Jack (they did NOT say NO Foley personalities can be in the Rumble). Within 5 minutes several Corporation members attack Foley and he gets dragged UNDER the ropes AND Rock rock bottoms Mick through a table, seemingly putting him out of contention. The last 2 in the ring are Austin and Bossman, but Vince and Foley/Cactus are still legal for the Final 4 with them being on commentary or laid out at ringside respectfully. Austin stuns Bossman then clotheslines out for elimination. Austin then drags Vince into the ring to beat on him for a minute then stun him... then Shane McMahon distracts Austin enough for Vince to sneak behind Austin to eliminate him! McMahons then laugh as they see the just moving Foley outside and think they have Rumble victory in the bag. Shane throws Foley into the ring, then Austin (now outside the ring) stuns Shane! This distracts Vince enough for Mick to pull out Mr. Socko then put mandible claw on Vince, then eliminates him when he gets weakened! Mick Foley/Cactus Jack wins 1999 Royal Rumble as the crowd goes nuts!
St Valentines Day Massacre ppv In 2 separate DX vs Corporation title matches which sees different members interfere in each match, Roadogg beats Ken Shamrock AND Billy Gunn beats Bossman to win the IC AND Hardcore belts respectively! Hhh beats Kane when Undertaker interferes. Mick Foley & Sable beat Rock & Chyna in a Mixed tag. Stone cold vs Vince McMahon is a no holds barred match, which sees all Corporation interfere and help Vince pin Austin after his own "stunner".
The weeks leading up to Wrestlemania 15 Owen Hart starts challenging Xpac for European title.
Wrestlemania 15 featured matches include... Xpac vs Owen Hart for European title. HHH vs Chyna. New Age Outlaws vs Ken Shamrock & Big Bossman in a Hardcore tag match where the winning team gets all the belts (Hardcore, Intercontinental, and tag team). Undertaker vs Kane in a Hell in a Cell. Rock vs Mick Foley/Cactus Jack in a Last Man Standing Match for WWF title. Vince & Shane McMahon vs Stone Cold Steve Austin & a mystery partner (that turns out to be Paul Wight/Big Show making his debut) in a cage match. If Mcmahons win Austin is banned from WWF. If Austin & Show win, Austin gets to pick when he challenges for titles anytime he chooses.
