I watched the Lasagna Cat with the Miami Vice parody, and now I'm interested in checking out Miami Vice for the first time. Is it on any streaming services? I checked Hulu, and Netflix, no dice.

I always thought Garfield Minus Garfield was much less funny than when Garfield's thought balloons were removed but he was still there. link linkAnyway, I think the thing about this whole phenomenon is just that Garfield is something lots of people loved when they were kids, so the affection and shared language is there. But also, it shows how impossible it is to avoid satire. Despite Jim Davis's dogged hard work, Garfield still comes off as a scathing commentary on modern life, partly because of how bland it can be (the cartoon show often was much more explicit in its commentary). It already FEELS LIKE a suburban nightmare, so might as well make that literal.
