8: Mortal Shell
Another Soulslike in my backlog. A shorter one that actually turned out to be quite good, but just wasn’t my type of Souls mechanically. A little slower paced with a heavy reliance on parrying, which I typically straight up ignore. I’m typically a quick weapon / dodge guy which wasn’t how this was built. Once I found the combo of Shell/weapon that worked for me I got rolling.
Good souls game, even if a little outside my comfort style.

9: The Surge (again)
Finally finished off my PS run of this game, leaving my progress at the last boss while I finished a few trophies then left it forgotten until today. Another Soulslike, I have a very soft spot for this one. I really dig the targeting system and chopping off individual armor pieces. This is one I’ll do a NG+ run at some point to get the other ending and the Platinum. I’d definitely recommend this one if you’re looking for a sci-fi spin on the Soulslike.

Yup, the DC one gave me a taste for Lego games, so I bought the Marvel triple pack. The first game on this list which I've completed before, but it's been a fair while. A few glitches here and there, starting with it insisting on having Batman music on the home screen. The worst thing about the game though is the hints. There isn't an obvious way to turn them off and there'll be one on screen at least 75% of the time. The Avengers game looks to be going about it in a much better way: you get tips only if you hit the big 'A' hanging around places you might need one.

10: The Surge 2
My Soulslike expedition continues. Don’t know why I never went on to finish this one when it first came out, likely distracting by something else new and shiny. I dig both Surges. Love the limb targeting mechanic. Boss fights aren’t quite as epic as I want from a Souls game, but that’s fine. Another solid solid game in the genre. Recommend if you’re into it.

11: Remnant: From the Ashes
THE MARCH ON SOULS CONTINUES
This one has guns. It’s also pretty short, probably 10 hours. It’s also part loot/shoot, like Souls and Outriders had a baby. It’s solid. Not great with some frustrating moments in there, mainly with some labyrinth maps and samey dungeons within.

12: Gone Home - Console Edition
One that’s been sitting in the PS+ library untouched for quite some time. A bittersweet little coming of age love story / walking simulator with mild creepy undertones. A nice palate cleanser to all the souls I’ve been playing. Super short, so quite glad it was a freebie.

13: Oxenfree
Another PS+ half-finished one in the backlog. I honestly need to go into this one fresh and give it a go from the start. Seems very interesting but I forgot everything about the characters and relationships and progress into the game I’d made to the point I was at, so my finish seemed a little disjointed.

14: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
I DID IT
I BEAT THE SWORD SAINT
I did it in the least skilled way possible, but I don’t care. I hid under my umbrella for phase two, using all the charges to kill him, then baited a single attack the entire phase three. It took a solid 15 minutes of me not screwing up the pattern. But I did it. The white whale of the souls catalogue is DEAD. Sekiro was a good game, but I didn’t like it as much as the rest of the souls games. No weapons / armor was always kind of a downer to me.
Its a good game. But it’s the only FromSoft game I won’t go back to. I’ll take The Surges over it honestly.

I gotta get back to Sekiro to finish it up. I'm right at Isshin, too.

25. Spider-Man: Miles Morales
My second playthrough of it, first was early last year; I ended up buying it on sale a couple weeks back and on getting a 4K TV it felt like a good one to try out the differences on. Kind of is what it is, budget sequel to Spider-Man that gives you more of what you like about the first one, addresses some of the problems with it (in particular the stealth is much better), doesn't have enough boss fights, and is mostly a poorly-written rehash of the first game's plot. It's a lot of fun but not an all-time classic or anything, could see myself playing it again but it's probably not going to be any time soon.

3. Life is Strange: True Colors Loved it. Best game in the series easily. I liked it a lot, feels like the sequel the first game should have had, though I don't think I liked it quite as much. Definitely want to play it again at some point but it kind of feels like it has some hiccups in terms of what's considered the moral choice at points, the villain is crazy obvious the whole time, the dad plot twist toward the end makes no sense (including just in terms of basic chronology, the years don't add up) and comes out of nowhere, and at the end of the game you can kind of see the skeleton of how none of what you did really matters in terms of the ending. Which to be fair is all stuff you can accuse the first game of too but I think it kind of just has more charm to it.

10 - Lego Marvel's Avengers
I couldn't actually remember if I had played this one or not, turns out I had not. Usual Lego stuff going on here, covering the first two Avengers films and a bunch of other Marvel stuff.
I wasn't a fan of the set up for choosing levels in this one. It had them on a globe with clusters of them together based on where in the world the level took place. It didn't make it easy to remember what ones I had done when going back through them.
One other thing that would be useful (for Lego games in general) is having a quick character select, similar to the free play levels, while you're in the hub areas. Just six or so characters (that you can swap out as you need) that you can just flip through.
Marvel Super Heroes 2 is up next and that will be my Lego game needs filled for the foreseeable future.

26. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Been on and off replaying it for a bit and decided over the past couple of days I wanted to go ahead and wrap it up. First time playing it in a few years and my opinion of it is pretty much the same as it always was - fun enough to play, gets kind of bogged down in stupid minigames that break the momentum, not anywhere near as funny as it thinks it is - but also kind of worse? I sort of forgot all of the backtracking and the times the game gives you very little idea of where exactly you're supposed to go next, plus it's kind of easy to forget just how meandering and aimless the plot actually is. Also it's kind of incredible how thoroughly Pure Force + Chopper Bros. utterly destroys this game, virtually nothing is any kind of threat to you with that particular combination.
I dunno. It's a good game, but it's pretty far from a great one, and I can't really see myself playing it again any time soon though maybe at some point down the line.

2. FTL: back to playing the game again. Got 7k scores. Still fun.
3. Monster Rancher 1 DX: played it back on the PS1, but figured it would be fun to play it again. It was. Gotta say, I'm certainly a lot more efficient at the game now knowing how things work. I'll play 2 DX eventually but I reckon I'll keep at it with 1 for a while longer.

11. Terminator Resistance (PS5 upgrade, PS4 physical disc)
Wow, this game is seriously underrated. Very enjoyable, likable characters, great use of the Terminator licence. Teyon did a great job on this, I imagine it will be their magnum opus. Enjoyable simple crafting systems, satisfying level-ups and definitely more than a hint of Fallout inspired the game. The stealth mission in the hospital where you have no way of fighting the Terminators is so tense. Have no idea what the critics were talking about when reviewing this game, I'd recommend this wholeheartedly as a fun 15-20 hour shorter game.

27. Pikmin 3
Got it in from Gamefly during a $1 trial - they give those out a lot yet I didn't really have anything I was especially wanting in the moment. Wasn't terribly enthusiastic about it on paper but wound up enjoying it way more than I expected to, to the point I'm wondering about dropping the money to keep it rather than sending it back. Seems like a game that'd be very easy to replay just to see how much more efficiently you can play it, plus while I got enough fruit for the good ending (and to have like 38 days of juice left over, I beat it on I think day 19) I didn't get them all so there's always still going back through to get the best one.
Really didn't expect to be nearly into it as I was honestly. I'd been kind of wondering about going back and playing Pikmin 1 for awhile anyway - I rented it once as a kid but never played a super huge amount of it - and this really served to make me all the more enthusiastic to do that. ... Albeit not right this minute, got other things I want to focus on first.

I liked how the second game had it where choices, but Ben smaller ones seemed to matter. I changed one dialogue choice in episode 5 and got a different ending.

28. Super Mario RPG
Been on and off replaying it for a few days. One of those games I pretty much play every year, one of my favorites ever. It is in a lot of ways baby's first RPG, especially if you use the Lazy Shell armor (which I didn't this playthrough), but it's still a lot of fun with tons of charm and probably my most beloved game soundtrack ever. ... Which sort of makes it weird that I've never liked the music in Mario & Luigi or Kingdom Hearts very much but eh. Love the game to pieces and if they were to finally put it on Switch already I'd probably go ahead and replay it right away despite having just gone through it.

15: Outriders
It’s exactly fine. A pretty fun looter/shooter that doesn’t really break any new ground, but is fun to turn the brain off and shoot baddies with cool guns and powers. It has a new expansion coming out in June, but I really don’t think I can justify 35$ on it.
I have it on the tier of a game like Godfall.
Also the random matchmaking is a nightmare. That was really a downer for someone like me who just wants to jump in and play instead of actively going into a Discord and look for codes.

29. Hades
After my first escape I went a long time without playing the game and it kind of reached a point I didn't really want to again since I was afraid I'd suck at it. Decided randomly to try it again... and managed to pull off an escape first try. Really damn satisfying given the first time I did it I had to really beat my head against the wall for awhile before I actually pulled it off. Makes me a lot more inclined to play it in the future that I apparently still retained that muscle memory, even if there were definitely points I'd gotten into the habit of breezing through before that I struggled with this time.
