Today in Ring of Honor History: January 25 - 2008: Ring of Honor presented "Breakout" in Dayton, OH. The main event saw Nigel McGuinness defend the ROH World Championship against Chris Hero in a Steel Cage match. The match marked not only the end of their feud which had lasted since the previous March, but also the end of Hero's comedic "Natural Superior Athlete" persona. After the following night's show, Hero would disappear for several months before returning as the angry, serious "Young Knockout Kid". Tyler Black faced Bryan Danielson in a star-making match that propelled him from Jimmy Jacobs' lacky to bona fide main eventer. Joey Matthews made his return as the newest member of The Age of the Fall, teaming with Jacobs to face the No Remorse Corps. Erick Stevens defended the FIP World Heavyweight Championship in a Three-Way against Davey Richards and Austin Aries, whose downward slide would get a shout out from The Age of the Fall. And Delirious teamed with El Generico to wrestle a No Disqualification match against The Hangmen 3 to build up his Dog Collar match against Adam Pearce the follow night. - 2014: ROH held "Wrestling's Finest" in Pittsburg, PA. The recently returned Chris Hero teamed with Michael Elgin to face The Briscoes and ROH World Champion Adam Cole and Matt Hardy in a Three-Way Tag Team Elimination match that shot him straight into title contention. Hanson beat future tag team partner Raymond Rowe to win the 2014 Top Prospect Tournament. The "Taven Era" of The House of Truth officially came to an end when Matt Taven fired Truth Martini as his manager. In retaliation, Martini screwed Taven in his ROH World Television Championship match against Tommaso Ciampa and Jay Lethal. And the feud between Kevin Steen and Cliff Compton heated up heading into their Street Fight at the "12th Anniversary" - 2019: ROH continued the "Road to G1 Supercard" tour in Houston, TX. LifeBlood took on the grumpy old men contingent of Bully Ray, The Briscoes, Silas Young and Shane Taylor in a Ten-Man Tag Team match. Tag Wars 2019 completed the opening rounds with Kenny King reuniting with his Beatdown Clan stablemate MVP to face Colt Cabana and NWA National Champion Willie Mack (a replacement for the injured Flip Gordon), The Bouncers facing The Boys, and Cheeseburger and Eli Isom of Shinobi Shadow Squad facing Coast 2 Coast. Jay Lethal defended the ROH World Championship against Vinny Marseglia, while his partner Jonathan Gresham took on fellow Kingdom member TK O'Ryan. Kelly Klein defended the WOH World Championship against Britt Baker, and Rocky Romero earned a shot at Jeff Cobb's ROH World Television Championship.

Today in Ring of Honor History: January 26 - 2007: Doug Gentry passed away at the age of 34. A holdover of RF Video and ECW, Gentry was one of the major backstage personnel during ROH's early years, and helped bring in Cary Silkin to save the promotion in 2003. Gentry was also briefly owner of the promotion, taking ownership from Rob Feinstein and selling it to Silkin. PWInsider's write-up of his passing: www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=22589&p=1- 2007: ROH held its first show of the year Braintree, MA and titled it "Dedicated" in honor of Doug Gentry. New ROH World Champion Homicide made his first defense, taking on manly man Chris Hero, backed by his new super agent Larry Sweeney. The rivalry between The Briscoes and Austin Aries and Roderick Strong came to an end in a Two out of Three Falls match, with dem boys winning it in two straight, their first of many throughout the year. Rocky Romero, who with the exception of a one-off match had been gone since the summer of 2005, made his return as a regular member of the roster, taking on Davey Richards. The two would become stablemates a couple months later, and, as coincidence would have it, go on the win the ROH World Tag Team Championship for the first time exactly one year after their match. Also returning to regular competition was Jack Evans, who took on local newcomer Eddie Edwards. Rebecca Bayless, formerly of Special K, made her return as well, becoming the new backstage interviewer. Samoa Joe took on Nigel McGuinness, Jimmy Jacobs took it a step too far in his war with Colt Cabana and BJ Whitmer, and Jimmy Rave looked to establish himself as a force to be reckoned with with his new finisher. - 2008: ROH closed out the weekend with "Without Remorse" in Chicago Ridge, IL. The Age of the Fall's ROH World Tag Team Championship reign came to a sudden, shocking end when they were the first team eliminated in an Ultimate Endurance match against Austin Aries and Bryan Danielson (in their first night as a tag team), The Hangmen 3, and the eventual winners and new champions, Davey Richards and Rocky Romero of No Remorse Corps. Fellow NRC member Roderick Strong challenged Nigel McGuinness for the ROH World Championship in a match that was set up several months earlier when McGuinness first won the title. Delirious finally ended his feud with Adam Pearce, defeating him a Dog Collar match. Claudio Castagnoli and El Generico met in a rematch from the finals of the Race to the Top Tournament. And World Heavyweight Intergender Tag Team Champions Sweet n' Sour, Inc. showed why they're the best intergender tag team in the world. - 2009: Ring of Honor announced they would soon begin a weekly television series on HDNet. - 2019: ROH concluded their Texas triple-shot with "Road to G1 Supercard" in San Antonio. PCO and Brody King of Villain Enterprise won Tag Wars 2019, beating LifeBlood's Juice Robinson and David Finaly in the finals. As a result of winning, Villain Enterprises was entered into the returning Crockett Cup. Frustration began to brew between Dalton Castle and The Boys after a failed challenge against ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Kingdom. WOH World Champion Kelly Klein won her rivalry with Sumie Sakai, and revived another one when she issued to challenge to STARDOM's Mayu Iwatani. NWA National Champion Willie Mack was back in action, teaming with ROH World Television Champion Jeff Cobb to face Silas Young and Shane Taylor. Resident British wrestlers Marty Scurll and Mark Haskins met in their only singles match against each other in ROH, while "The Most Wanted" Bandido stole the show in a singles match against Rocky Romero [who's popping up a lot on this date].

Today in Ring of Honor History: January 27 - 2006: Ring of Honor held "Tag Wars 2006" in Dayton, OH. The show kicked off the ROH/CZW feud in earnest, with CZW's Chris Hero and Necro Butcher appearing in the audience in an attempt to hijack the show, resulting in the first of many massive brawls. Austin Aries and Roderick Strong of Generation Next made their first defense of the ROH Tag Team Championship, taking on ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson and Jay Lethal. After ending their year long feud in December, Generation Next and The Embassy were back at it again, meeting in the finals of the 2006 Trios Tournament, with GeNext teaming with Jimmy Yang. In a revival of the feud that launched Ring of Honor, Low Ki and Christopher Daniels wrestled their first ROH match against each other since January 2003. Following the match, Daniels did something he'd never done in ROH before, and offered to shake hands after being defeated. And BJ Whitmer grew increasingly frustrated with Jimmy Jacobs's infatuation with Lacey. - 2007: ROH closed out their opening weekend with "Battle of the Icons" in Edison, NJ. Homicide defended the ROH World Championship against longtime rival Samoa Joe in their first singles match against each other since July 2004. Two huge grudge matches went down when Nigel McGuinness faced Jimmy Rave in an "I Quit" match, while BJ Whitmer took on Jimmy Jacobs in a Last Man Standing match. Meanwhile, Whitmer's ally Colt Cabana teamed with the returning Sara Del Rey to face Jacobs' team of Brent Albright and Lacey. Former tag team partners Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli faced each other for the first time in ROH, taking on their formal rival Christopher Daniels in a Three-Way match. The core members of Generation Next, Austin Aries, Roderick Strong and Jack Evans, reunited one last time to face Delirious, Davey Richards and Shingo. And in a long awaited rematch, The Briscoes faced The Havana Pitbulls in their last match teaming together in ROH.

Today in Ring of Honor History: January 28 - 2006: ROH held "Dissension" in Cleveland, OH. The event's name was due to the internal friction of several factions on the show. In Generation Next, Matt Sydal finally made his decision to challenge Austin Aries and Roderick Strong for the ROH Tag Team Championship. Former two-time champions BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs of Lacey's Angels broke up after Jacobs' infatuation with Lacey caused them to lose their tag title shot. And one night after winning the Trios Tournament, The Embassy ended up on the losing side of a Six-Man Tag Team match due to the infighting between Jimmy Rave and Alex Shelley, resulting in Abyss quitting the stable and making it his ROH final match. Also wrestling his final match was Founding Father and inaugural ROH Champion Low Ki, who faced Jack Evans in a match to help kick off the feud-that-never-was between The Rottweilers and Generation Next. Adam Pearce emerged as the first member of Team ROH in the ROH/CZW feud when he aligned with Jim Cornette to fight Necro Butcher. Christopher Daniels wrestled Matt Sydal in the first of umpteen singles matches they'd have in the first half of the year. And in the main event, Bryan Danielson defended the ROH World Championship against AJ Styles. While it is usually the opponent who issues a challenge to the champion in pro wrestling, Danielson was actually the one to issue the challenge to Styles, as they had wrestled just two previous singles matches in ROH, both of which he lost. - 2011: ROH made its third trip to California for "SoCal Showdown II" as part of the WrestleReunion 5 in Los Angeles. Roderick Strong defended the ROH World Championship against El Generico, while Christopher Daniels, reunited for one night with Allison Danger, defended the ROH World Television Championship against Mark Briscoe. That match came about due to Mark pinning Daniels in the Champions vs. All-Stars match earlier in the month. Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team face the Kings of Wrestling in a rematch from "Glory by Honor IX". And Davey Richards took on TJ Perkins, the man he initially feuded with when he started with his original home promotion Pro Wrestling Guerrilla.

Today in Ring of Honor History: January 29 - 2004: Ring of Honor held "The Last Stand" in Glen Burnie, MD. The show's name was in reference to ROH World Champion Samoa Joe, who received his third and final shot for the ROH Tag Team Championship. After failed attempts to win them with AJ Styles and Bryan Danielson, Joe teamed with the returning Jerry Lynn to challenge the Briscoe Brothers, who were reunited with Jim Cornette. Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer of The Prophecy became co-holders of the Number One Contender's Trophy after winning a Four Corner Survival match, setting up the title match for the "Second Anniversary Show". A very cryptic Homicide took on CM Punk, while Alex Shelley and Jimmy Jacobs wrestled their first singles match against each other in ROH. The very first Six Man Mayhem match was held, and Sugar Sean Price made his debut as a backstage interviewer. - 2010: After the disastrous Wrestle Fest convention in 2007, ROH returned to California for "SoCal Showdown" as part of the far more successful WrestleReunion 4 in Los Angeles. The Young Bucks wrestled their final match before leaving for TNA, teaming with The Briscoes to face the Kings of Wrestling and The American Wolves in an Eight-Man Tag Team match. The legendary Jushin "Thunder" Liger returned after five years to face ROH World Champion Austin Aries in a non-title match. There were three Pick 6 Series match, with Roderick Strong defending the #6 spot against Delirious, Tyler Black defending the #5 spot against Joey Ryan, and Kevin Steen defending the #2 spot against the returning Human Tornado. That match came about due to Tornado's friendship with El Generico. And in a "what the f*** is happening" match hosted by the convention, former AWA World Heavyweight Champion Larry Zbyszko took on former WWE Tag Team Champion Scotty 2 Hotty in a match refereed by Jonny Fairplay, who was accompanied to the ring by former WCW World Heavyweight Champion David Arquette's sister, Alexis Arquette. It really happened and was filmed for posterity. - 2021: ROH aired a television episode from Baltimore, MD. After winning a Gauntlet match on "Week by Week", Joe Keys challenged Jonathan Gresham for the ROH Pure Championship. In the main event, The OGK took on their longtime friends The Bouncers. Following the match, Beer City Bruiser would turn on his friends after digging what Vincent was saying, man. And in a YouTube exclusive, Danhausen and Brian Johnson faced off in a rematch from "Final Battle 2020".

Today in Ring of Honor History: January 30 - 2009: ROH held "Motor City Madness 2009" in Detroit, MI. Their last show heading into a pay-per-view taping, most of the matches were exhibitions. The American Wolves challenged Kevin Steen and El Generico in their first shot at the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Tyler Black wrestled a time limit draw that actually went the time limit, this time against Jerry Lynn. Brent Albright and Claudio Castagnoli met in a singles match that led to a feud which would last until August. And Necro Butcher and Brodie Lee met in a brawl, which would be the only match to carry over to the next show. - 2015: ROH held the first show of the "Winter Warriors Tour", taking place in Dearborn, MI. Jay Briscoe defended the ROH World Championship against Michael Bennett, while Jay Lethal defended the ROH World Television Championship against Roderick Strong. Michael Elgin took on Mark Briscoe in a warm up to the ROH World Championship Four Corner Survival match at the "13th Anniversary". There was a "Battle of the Matts" between Matt Sydal and Matt Taven, and a "Battle of the Guys Who Shot Their Careers in the Foot" between Alberto El Patron and ACH. And Tadarius Thomas faced his former Decade's mentor, Jimmy Jacobs, in his last match before retiring from pro wrestling to return to MMA.

Today in Ring of Honor History: January 31 - 2007: ROH uploaded their latest edition of the Video Wire, which ended with the shocking announcement that Samoa Joe, the face of Ring of Honor since 2003, was leaving the promotion. Though he didn't explicitly state TNA was forcing him to leave, Joe made it clear the decision for him to leave was not his. In an emotional address, Joe thanked the fans for their years of support and announced the following six shows would be his last. - 2009: Ring of Honor returned to Chicago Ridge, IL to tape "Cage Collision", the second-to-last pay-per-view from their original PPV run. After three failed attempts, El Generico received his last ROH World Championship opportunity against Nigel McGuinness. Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black were scheduled to face Austin Aries and Jimmy Jacobs in a tag team match, with the winning wrestler receiving a title shot at the ROH World Championship (which had been stripped from Aries), but due to the issues involved between the participants it was changed to a Four Corner Survival match. During that match, Bison Smith attacked Danielson, ending weeks of speculation as to his purpose in ROH. Necro Butcher teamed with Jerry Lynn in a grudge match against The Age of the Fall, and Kevin Steen faced Claudio Castagnoli in a one-off match. The focus of the pay-per-view was a Steel Cage Warfare match ending the nearly yearlong storyline (and multiple feuds) of Sweet n' Sour, Inc. pissing off most of the ROH locker room. The various babyfaces: - Brent Albright, originally a member of The Hangmen 3 who was forced to join Sweet n' Sour, Inc. when Adam Pearce sold the faction to Larry Sweeney in March 2008. Albright quickly grew frustrated with Sweeney and quit the Sweet n' Sour, Inc. at "A New Level" [5/10/08], and had been feuding with them ever since.
- Roderick Strong, formerly the leader of the No Remorse Corps. Becoming a de facto tag team following Rocky Romero's departure from ROH, Strong repeatedly refused to sell NRC to Sweeney. After refusing Sweeney's final offer of "$42 Bajillion", Strong's teammate Davey Richards turned on him and joined Sweet n' Sour, Inc. at "Respect Is Earned II" [6/7/08], and they'd been feuding ever since.
- Erick Stevens, who had been engaged in a long, bitter, violent feud with Roderick Strong before becoming allies to fight against Sweet n' Sour, Inc. At "Northern Navigation" [7/25/08], Stevens wrestled Sweet n' Sour, Inc. member Go Shiozaki to a time limit draw. Larry Sweeney refused to give in to Stevens' and the fans demand that the match continue with more time, which brought out Lance Storm, who also wanted the match restarted. Chris Hero ran out and attacked Storm, with Sweet n' Sour, Inc. beating down Stevens as well, and they'd been feuding ever since.
- Jay Briscoe, who teamed with his brother Mark to defeated Sweet n' Sour, Inc.'s The American Wolves in their official debut as a tag team, a Three-Way Elimination Tag Team match at "All-Star Extravaganza IV" [12/26/08]. The following night at "Final Battle 2008", the Wolves attacked the Briscoes after their match, taking out Mark with a knee injury that would end up sidelining him for six months. Jay had been feuding with them ever since.
- Ace Steel. Truthfully, Steel didn't have much of a feud with Sweet n' Sour, Inc. After being released from WWE, Steel made his return at "Rising Above 2008" [11/22/08], teaming with Strong and Albright as a replacement for Stevens in a Six Man War against Sweet n' Sour, Inc. Steel was brought in as the mystery partner of the team.
Representing Sweet n' Sour, Inc. were The American Wolves (Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards) and three mystery partners: Bobby Dempsey, who'd been the stable's whipping boy almost since the faction began; personal trainer Tank Toland, who hadn't been seen in months; and Adam Pearce, who, though recently made booker, hadn't appeared on a show since he beat Albright for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at "Glory by Honor VII" [9/20/08]. The Steel Cage Warfare match was the beginning of the downfall for Sweet n' Sour, Inc., as shortly thereafter Larry Sweeney's bipolar disorder sadly got the better of him, leading to his ouster from ROH and most of pro wrestling, and a complete unraveling of his personal life. Without Sweeney, the "Sweet n' Sour, Inc." name was quietly dropped, with Shane Hagadorn taking over as manager for the various wrestlers. - 2015: ROH held the second night of the "Winter Warriors Tour" in Dayton, OH. In the headlining matches, Alberto El Patron took on "Mr. ROH" Roderick Strong, while The Briscoes faced Matt Sydal and ACH in the main event. Tommaso Ciampa and Hanson, two of the three challengers for the ROH World Championship at the "13th Anniversary", were booked in singles matches against Kingdom members Michael Bennett and Matt Taven respectively, but ended up teaming together to defeat them in a tag match. The third challenger, Michael Elgin, faced Chris Dicksinon in his debut match.

Today in Ring of Honor History: February 2 - 2013: The Briscoes defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship against Jimmy Jacobs and Steve Corino of S.C.U.M. at the afternoon show of " National Pro Wrestling Day" in Philadelphia, PA. - 2013: ROH returned to Baltimore, MD for a television taping. Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team challenged The Briscoes for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, with the stipulation being they'd split up if they lost. The Briscoes didn't so much beat WGTT as WGTT beat themselves, because Charlie Haas turned on Shelton Benjamin and cost them the match. Ultimately there was no payoff to the split, as the planned match between Haas and Benjamin was canceled when Haas quit the company. Matt Taven beat Tadarius Thomas to win the 2013 Top Prospect Tournament, and then immediately signed with Truth Martini to become the new face of The House of Truth. Dissension began to grow between ROH World Champion Kevin Steen and S.C.U.M, as he it made clear he no longer wanted to kill ROH. Matt Hardy tried to prove he was worthy of a shot at the ROH World Television Championship, Michael Elgin and Roderick Strong squared off in two matches to build toward their final showdown at the "11th Anniversary", and Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish settled on a tag team name: reDRagon.

Today in Ring of Honor History: February 3 - 2017: Ring of Honor held "Undisputed Legacy" in San Antonio, TX. In the main event, Search and Destory (Motor City Machine Guns, Lio Rush & Jay White) took on the Adams and the Bucks of Bullet Club. The Kingdom made the first ever defense of the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship, taking on War Machine and Jax Dane. Friction began to show between Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian when they took on The Tempura Boyz. Keith Lee made his final appearance in ROH, teaming with Shane Taylor to face The Briscoes. Cody tried to murder Donovan Dijak. And The Romantic Touch made an appearance after nearly a year and a half long absence.

Today in Ring of Honor History: February 4 - 2012: After being gone a month, Ring of Honor returned to Baltimore, MD for another television taping. The episodes served as the build up to ROH's next three internet Pay-Per-Views, "10th Anniversary: Young Wolves Rising" and the "Showdown in the Sun" double shot over WrestleMania weekend. Davey Richards defended the ROH World Championship against Jay Lethal in a rematch from "Homecoming 2012" [1/20/12]. Jimmy Jacobs made his return after being put out of action by Kevin Steen at "Final Battle 2011", setting up their match at the Anniversary show. Mark Briscoe faced Charlie Haas in a singles match to build up to the next showdown between the Briscoes and Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team. Eddie Edwards and Roderick Strong met in a Number One Contender's match to determine who would challenge Davey Richards for the ROH World Championship at "Showdown in the Sun: Day #1" (a.k.a. The Clone Wars match). To determine the challenger for "Day #2", ROH came up with a somewhat complicated though creative solution: the Blind Destiny Challenge. Three singles matches, with the winner of each match being booked against either Richards, Edwards or Strong at "Showdown in the Sun: Day #2", and whoever was the champion would put the title on the line in their match. As the "Blind Destiny" episode aired right after the Anniversary PPV, it allowed them to record an episode to build up the following PPV without giving anything away. - 2017: ROH completed their tour of Texas with "Honor Reigns Supreme" in Dallas. Longtime rivals The Young Bucks and The Briscoes met for the ROH World Tag Team Championship in a Two out of Three Falls match. Unlike the traditional Two out of Three Falls the Briscoes are known for, this was basically a modified Ultimate Endurance match, with each fall being a different stipulation. Christopher Daniels teamed with his Addiction partner Frankie Kazarian to face ROH World Champion Adam Cole and Cody of the Bullet Club to build up to their match at the "15th Anniversary". Cody, meanwhile, would continue to build his feud with Jay Lethal, who faced Bullet Club's Adam Page. And Search and Destroy challenged The Kingdom for the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship.

Today in Ring of Honor History: February 5 - 2010: Ring of Honor returned to Philadelphia, PA for another round of HDNet tapings. Due to delays, the continuity for the episodes are all over the place. All three were recorded before the "8th Anniversary Show" [2/13/10], but the first two aired after it and were used the build towards "The Big Bang" iPPV on April 3. The third episode was also meant to build towards "The Big Bang", but was pushed back two weeks when HDNet decided to preempt them for a college basketball tournament, and thus didn't air until two days after the iPPV took place. The taping featured the opening rounds of the ROH World Television Championship Tournament, with Colt Cabana, Eddie Edwards, Davey Richards, Delirious, El Generico, Kenny King, Kevin Steen and Rhett Titus participating. Chris Hero, who was one half of the reigning ROH World Tag Team Champions when the episode aired, wrestled a Pick 6 Series match against Jay Briscoe, who was one half of the reigning ROH World Tag Team Champions when the episode was recorded (and came out with the belt). And Shawn Daivari made his return after stints in WWE and TNA. Due to the continuity issues, for simplicity everything that was recorded after the tapings and edited in has been placed in spoiler boxes. - 2021: ROH aired a television episode from Baltimore, MD. Trying to break free of being viewed as a gimmick wrestler, Cheeseburger debuted his new persona, World Famous CB, and took on Tracy Williams in a Pure Rules match. In the main event, PCO and Brody King teamed with The Briscoes to face La Facción Ingobernable and their former Villain Enterprises stablemate Flip Gordon in an Eight-Man Tag Team match.

Today in Ring of Honor History: February 6 - 2009: Ring of Honor held "Proving Ground 2009: Night One" in Coral Springs, FL. The main event was the first singles match in ROH between Tyler Black, 2008's hottest rising star whose popularity had begun to wane, and Davey Richards, the indies' new hottest rising star . ROH World Tag Team Champions Kevin Steen and El Generico faced the returning Kory Chavis (who previously competed as Rainman) and debuting Jon Davis, the Dark City Fight Club. Bison Smith made his in-ring debut, beating former ROH Tag Team Champion Sal Rinauro in a squash match. Nigel McGuinness wrestled Brent Albright in a non-title match, and Bryan Danielson teamed up with Jerry Lynn to face The Age of the Fall in a match that really makes you question Florida's medical system. - 2010: ROH was scheduled to tape another round of HDNet episodes in Philadelphia, PA, but the show was cancelled due to inclement weather. - 2016: ROH held a television taping in Nashville, TN. Unlike tradition tapings with four episodes being produced, this one had saw a fifth episode produced as a number of WOH matched were held for a Women of Honor Special that aired later in the year. ROH World Champion Jay Lethal, Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly did the final push towards their title match at the "14th Anniversary". Lio Rush won the 2016 Top Prospect Tournament, beating Punishment Martinez in the semifinals and Brian Fury in the finals. Dissension continued to mount between The Addiction and Chris Sabin over his former tag team partner Alex Shelley. The feud between Adam Page and BJ Whitmer continued to heat up, while the feud between Dalton Castle and Silas Young began to come to a close, with Castle challenging Young to a Fight Without Honor. The final episode taped consisted entirely of a seven-team Tag Team Gauntlet match featuring the likes of The Addiction, reDRagon, RPG Vice and The Young Bucks. That Gauntlet featured the last two-on-two tag team match between reDRagon and the Bucks in ROH.
Today in Ring of Honor History: February 7 - 2009: ROH closed out their Florida double-shot with "Proving Ground 2009: Night Two" in Orlando. Nigel McGuiness defended the ROH World Championship against the debuting D-Lo Brown. Bryan Danielson and El Generico showed why wrestling is at its most fun in an intimate setting, when a small bit of fan chanting led to Danielson learning that sometimes you just have to hug it out. Current Age of the Fall members Jimmy Jacobs and Delirious took on former Age of the Fall members Tyler Black and Necro Butcher in a grudge match. And Kevin Steen and Davey Richards wrestled their second-ever singles match in ROH to continue the feud between Steenerico and The American Wolves.

Today in Ring of Honor History: February 8 - 2003: Ring of Honor held the "One Year Anniversary Show" in Queens, NY. Celebrating ROH's first year, the four-hour long show had some high highs, and some low lows. Bryan Danielson and Samoa Joe met in a rematch from "Revenge on the Prophecy" [1/11/03]. Now 18-years-old and legally allowed to wrestle in the state of Pennsylvania, Mark Briscoe took on his brother Jay Briscoe in one last match to end their feud before becoming a tag team. After months of building, Homicide and Steve Corino met in the first match of their four-year long feud, with Corino winning and causing a worked (ish?) riot. In a pair of dueling promo, CM Punk and Raven gave a preview of things to come for the rest of 2003. And just like ROH's debut show, the undisputed match of the night was a Three-Way, this time with Paul London beating AJ Styles and Low Ki to win a title shot against ROH Champion Xavier. The title match was originally scheduled to be the main event, but in keeping with tradition, Xavier did not main event while champion. Instead, the actual main event was the infamous 7-on-10 Tag Team Scramble match between Da Hit Squad, Divine Storm, The S.A.T. & Mikey Whipwreck versus Special K (the match actually became 6-on-11 midway through, as Whipwreck turned on his students and joined Special K). As Gabe "Chris Lovey" Sapolsky described it on commentary: "If you're looking for a mat classic, if you're looking for psychology, if you're looking for any semblance of a reasonable match here, if you're looking for any of those things, rewind the tape and watch one of the other matches, cause this is just going to be a ridiculous display of spots." - 2014: ROH held "State of the Art" in San Antonio, TX. Roderick Strong started a feud with Cedric Alexander that would last for several months. Adam Cole and Michael Bennett formed an alliance that would eventually become The Kingdom. Kevin Steen won a #1 Contender Four Corner Survival match to set up his ROH World Championship title match at "Global Wars" [5/10/14], while Adrenaline RUSH beat reDRagon in a Proving Ground match to set up their ROH World Tag Team Championship match at the "12th Anniversary" [2/21/14]. And RD Evans pulled out three impressive victories, thanks in part to his personal referee Stokely Hathaway (in what I'm pretty sure was his debut), to extend #TheNewStreak to 32-0.

Today in Ring of Honor History: February 9 - 2018: Ring of Honor held "Honor Reigns Supreme 2018" in Concord, NC. The event was originally promoted as "Queen City Excellence" and was supposed to be a television taping, with "Honor Reigns Supreme" taking place the next night in Atlanta, but the events were switched around a week before. Instead of a TV taping, the Concord show was streamed live on ROH's website as a free preview for the upcoming HonorClub. The Young Bucks faced Best Friend in the main event, while their teammates in Bullet Club faced The Kingdom in a Six-Man Tag Team match to continue the feud between Cody and Matt Taven. In a battle of guys who would have no future history with each other in ROH, Jay Lethal took on Jonathan Gresham in their first ever singles match, while Silas Young took on Josh Woods in their second singles match. Deonna Purrazzo and Holidead faced off in an opening round match in the Women of Honor World Championship Tournament, while the debuting Tenille Dashwood was announced as the final participant in the tournament. - 2019: ROH held a television taping in Lakeland, FL. The episodes were used to build up the "17th Anniversary" and "G1 Supercard". ROH World Champion Jay Lethal was both a winner and a loser in his fight against "Real ROH World Champion" Matt Taven, destroying Taven's fake title in one episode, only to be beaten and humiliated by The Kingdom on the following one. Rush began his run as a regular member of the ROH roster. STARDOM's Mayu Iwatani, NWA's Willie Mack and New Japan's Rocky Romero and Zack Sabre Jr. all wrestled on the tapings as previews for ROH's upcoming crossover events "G1 Supercard" and "The Crockett Cup 2019". Jeff Cobb defended the ROH World Television Championship against Silas Young, and Kelly Klein defended the WOH World Championship against Stelle Grey. - 2020: In an effort to present a fresh start under the leadership of new booker Marty Scurll, ROH held "Free Enterprise" in Baltimore, MD. The show was presented for free to the fans as a way to give back. Unfortunately much of the planned follow-up coming out of "Free Enterprise didn't come to pass due to the COVID pandemic. In the main event, Marty Scurll teamed with his Villain Enterprises teammate ROH World Champion PCO to face NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis and Rush. The match continued the feud between PCO and Rush, the man he recently defeated for the ROH title, and was supposed to build to two future singles matches Aldis would have against Scurll and PCO, both of which would end up being cancelled. Two recently signed international wrestler made their debut, Slex from Australia and Session Moth Martina from Ireland, but their runs were cut short due to international borders closing. Jeff Cobb and Dan Maff won a Proving Ground match against Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham to earn a shot at the ROH World Tag Team Championship, but the shows were cancelled before they could get their match. Things that did have a conclusion (mostly because it's what happened on the show): Alex Shelley and Mark Haskins met in the only singles match of their career, Vincent's new faction was named The Righteous, and Flip Gordon won a 20-man Battle Royal that featured Gangrel and Blue Meanie to earn a shot at the ROH World Championship. He'd have to wait a year and a half before finally getting his title match. - 2021: The latest episode of "Week by Week" saw the debuts of Sledge and O'Shay Edwards, who wrestled to a time limit draw.

Today in Ring of Honor History: February 10 - 2018: Ring of Honor held a television taping in Atlanta, GA. The tapings saw the final two episodes heading into the "16th Anniversary", as well as the buildup for "Supercard of Honor XII", taking place WrestleMania weekend. With Cody and Kenny Omega on opposite sides of a civil war, the members of Bullet Club found themselves unable to get on the same page. Looking to knock them off the top of the mountain, SoCal Uncensored and The Kingdom tried to form an alliance, leading to a Ten-Man Tag Team match. On the go-home episode for the "16th Anniversary", future opponents were forced to team up, as ROH World Champion Dalton Castle teamed with his scheduled challenger Jay Lethal to face Marty Scurll and Punishment Martinez, who were set to face in a Number One Contender's match. Kenny King beat Silas Young to reclaim the ROH World Television Championship, while Flip Gordon won a Battle Royal and beat Shane Taylor to earn a future title shot. ROH World Tag Team Champions the Motor City Machine Guns got the last laugh on The Briscoes heading into their title match. And Tenille Dashwood, the newest member of Women of Honor, beat Stacy Shadows to advance in the WOH World Championship Tournament. - 2019: ROH finished off their Florida double-shot with "Bound by Honor 2019" in Coral Cables. ROH World Champion Jay Lethal and his partner Jonathan Gresham teamed up with Rush to take on The Kingdom in a Six-Man Tag Team match. STARDOM wrestler Mayu Iwatani defeated Kelly Klein to become the new WOH World Champion. PCO wrestled his first singles match, taking on Mark Briscoe. Colt Cabana stepped out of the commentary booth to take on Zack Sabre Jr. Rocky Romero challenged Jeff Cobb for the ROH World Television Championship. Frustrations continued to mount between Dalton Castle and The Boys in a losing effort to Shinobi Shadow Squad. And NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis filled in on commentary for Ian Riccaboni, who for some strange reason thought it was more important to be at home for the birth of his child (I know, it doesn't make sense).

Today in Ring of Honor History: February 11 - 2006: Ring of Honor held what ended up being "Unscripted II" in Long Island, NY. After a massive blizzard hit the area, TNA, who had a pay-per-view scheduled the following day, ordered all their contracted wrestlers to leave just hours before the show. Austin Aries and Roderick Strong were their only contracted wrestlers who refused, and remained at the show. They still made it to the TNA pay-per-view in time, but were suspended for two months for defying the order, with Strong being released shortly thereafter. On the ROH show, Aries challenged Nigel McGuinness for the ROH Pure Championship. Strong was originally booked to wrestle Low Ki in their first ever singles match as part of the planned Generation Next/Rottweiler feud, but a few days before the show Low Ki demanded more money, and quit/was fired as a result. Strong ended up facing BJ Whitmer instead, with his ROH World Championship on the line. Bryan Danielson was scheduled to defend the World title against The Embassy's Alex Shelley, but with Shelley on a plane to Florida, Prince Nana called on Xavier, a former ROH Champion and the first wrestler Nana signed to The Embassy, to take his spot. To make it up to the fans for all the no-shows and matches being changed, Gabe Sapolsky promised a major surprise, and if fans weren't satisfied by the third match they'd receive a full refund. That surprise ended up being the one night return of CM Punk. No one asked for a refund. Coincidentally, Punk's ROH debut was a surprise appearance at the first "Unscripted" [9/21/02]. - 2017: Ring of Honor had a television taping in Pittsburg, PA. The tapings featured the final episodes heading into the "15th Anniversary" pay-per-view. Bullet Club had a successful night by not only going 3-0 in their matches, but also gaining a new member. After weeks of frustration, Frankie Kazarian turned on his best friend Christopher Daniels and joined the winning side with ROH World Champion Adam Cole. On the lookout for a new member of their own, The Rebellion thought they found one in Lio Rush, but ended up signing Shane Taylor instead. Longtime fixture BJ Whitmer wrestled his final ROH match, teaming with Punishment Martinez in an "Anything Goes" match against War Machine. Also competing in his final ROH match was Donovan Dijak, who challenged Marty Scurll for the ROH World Television Championship. Jay Briscoe took on Jay White in a rematch of their time limit draw from the previous summer. And the opening round matches were held for the 2017 Top Prospect Tournament, which saw the debuts of Josh Woods and Brian Milonas

I still wonder how that one night Punk return was negotiated.
And yeah, that early 2017 lead up to the Anniversary show was some of the best stuff ever. Wild that it's already five years ago when it feels so vibrant. In the grand scheme of things, 2017 ROH is pretty underrated. Lots of year-long storytelling with a satisfying conclusion.
