Hangman Page needs to win by pinfall or submission, if he wants to gain legitimacy.

I have doubts it'll come down to the judges, anyway, but they want to at least entertain the notion it will, so judges make sense.

It's not going to go to the judges. AEW has had judges before and not needed them, I don't think this time will be any different.
But, with one draw on the books already, it only makes sense that AEW put something in place in case it does go the distance again.
AEW establishing judges as a thing but not using them is going to pay off eventually though. Just not this time.

It's a bit of fun? Adds some story to the build. Plants seeds for future programs?
I cares. I cares a lot.

I don't think it comes down to the judges, but the judges do become super important to this match and its story, yeah. Hangman needs to prove himself, and the only way he's going to be able to do that is if he gets a clean win, but the judges add an element of uncertainty not only to the finish, but to his credibility as champion if he wins via decision. It creates a situation where surviving won't be an option, but due to Danielson's style, Danielson has an edge in long matches and in this sort of arrangement. That's going to play into the story of the match with Hangman taking a lot more risks and being more aggressive only for Danielson to catch him in a trap and wear him down. The mere addition of judges changes the pace of the match and adds so much weight on Hangman's shoulders.

I think it's just a diversion, reminded me of the Flair/Steamboat match at Wrestlewar 89 where they had judges but didn't need them.

Not sure if this has been said here, but if they really wanted to further two stories out of it, you could have Omega as one of the judge and make him be a deciding vote for Hangman beating Danielson, which could set up a babyface Omega vs. heel Danielson or babyface Omega vs. an angry Adam Cole/Bobby/Kyle.
That said, I think the right move is to just have Hangman beat Danielson clean in the middle.

As others have said, I'm 99% sure they are a red herring. They'll give the match a different dynamic though, which is a really smart way to give the rematch a fresh feel to the original.

Hopefully the judges are just there to give the impression that the match goes 60 minutes again. It'll make it a bigger moment when Hangman wins with a RKOBuckshot outta nowhere.

Just sayin', but after Samoa Joe and CM Punk went to 60 minute draws in their first two matches for the ROH World title, they scheduled the third match to have no time limit.
It ended in under 40 minutes.

If they were a little closer to Revolution I could see them pulling another 60 minute draw out of their hat to try and sell a 3rd match on PPV but I feel like this one may end definitively.

Cody vs Chris Jericho back at Full Gear 2019, had judges. I don't really remember anything happening with them other than Dean Malenko and Jericho having a stare down and Muta not even having a pen to write down notes.
The judges for that match had nothing to do with the finish, and I kind of believe that will be the same for Hangman/Danielson. The one thing for sure is the match won't have the same finish unless Dark Order pull a MJF and throw in the towel for Hangman

they might tease the judges being a factor and have the match go 50 minutes or something before hangman wins. but i also expect one of them to be an active competitor that danielson blames for the loss (causes a distraction, or BD mocks him at some point letting hangman rally) and moves on to feud with before the entire poor dark order is crippled by danielson

Lots of directions it could go, but not clue what they'll settle on.

The thread alone proves the judges (whether they’re used or not) have added wonder/intrigue about what will already most certainly be an awesome rematch.
