It’s the most common complaint among sports fans, about how the refs are horrible and they always screw over my team. But which sport has the worst officiating?

I think the NFL has the worst approach to officiating, especially because the officials aren't full-time employees and the NFL rulebook makes GURPS look like Chutes and Ladders by comparison. But for the worst officials? I have to go with Baseball.

even during the offseasons and now lockdown MLB's Angel Hernandez winds up being a top trend on twitter because of how awful he is as a umpire. I gotta go with Baseball here overall but every sport has its messes of officiating.

The NFL is packed so full of subjective calls that by default it should be the "worst".
Is there another sport where a ref can say "Yeah that play is over because I felt like it was over but didn't blow the whistle until like 5 seconds later". Basketball combats this with continuation. The NFL is just like "it ended when I say it ended".
Outside of balls/strikes and the occasional check swing shenanigans, Baseball isn't that vague.

Wrestling refs are the worst.

Boxing judges are the worst officials, but I assume this means just in-competition referees so I'm gonna go with baseball umps. When you know the guys by name, it's because they're f***ing up. Don't know too many football refs by name. Wish I could forget several baseball umps.

Every week in the NFL I see calls which absolutely has me scratching my head, however at least the refs have microphones so they can explain what decision they have made. In soccer, refs are not accountable to anyone, they never have to explain their calls either during or after a game. I have watched games (including 2 European Cup finals) which I know have been rigged by the officials.

Baseball umps are by far the most sensitive. Feels like you look at them the wrong way and you're outta here.

I'm fairly certain there's only one major American professional sport that has had its officiating investigated by the FBI and nearly had a Congressional hearing called.
So yeah, basketball has had, and continues to have, the worst officiating.

English football has awful officials at the moment.
Video Assistant Refereeing was brought in 2 years ago to help them but it just seems to have made things worse.

MMA/Boxing is right behind Baseball because they hire clowns who think they run the game

I don't watch enough soccer to judge officiating, but for me American football. It's been bad enough that I just stopped caring to watch most games when penalties are too subjective and can change a game

I hardly watch anything anymore, but growing up I couldn't believe how many bad calls I would see in the NBA.
If you were a moneymaker, you could get away with so much. But at the same time, there was an influx of flopping by the mid 90's. It was so obvious too based on the impact force.

They all do. You listen to any fan of any sport no one likes the refs. In the end idk what to do to fix that or is it actually that bad but the complaints will never end.

Baseball umps are by far the most sensitive. Feels like you look at them the wrong way and you're outta here. or since Jon Lester retired today, in the case of umpire Andy Fletcher, Lester was giving him lip about the bad strike zone, and Fletcher just straight up charges the mound and had to be held back and Lester is just standing there with a complete "what the hell is going on here??" look on his face.

Any time Leeds United play, always dodgy refs.
Reminds me of Leeds vs Millwall in 2020, leeds player takes a shot, keeper makes a good CLEAR save.. Goal kick to millwall!

English football has awful officials at the moment. Video Assistant Refereeing was brought in 2 years ago to help them but it just seems to have made things worse. Like when leeds gave away a penalty into the first 5 mins into their premier league return at anfield, when a shot deflects onto Robin Kochs arm (which wouldnt be given this season) 🤔

After witnessing the farce that is the current Olympics, I'd say we have a new frontrunner.
