There's enough history and anticipation around it that AEW could announce Britt vs. Rosa, do it the next day and it'd still seem huge. AEW does seem to have a problem with telegraphing the next champion so much that it feels like the champ is just spinning wheels until they finally get to the next winner. Omega's reign had the same problem at times, as did Mox's. It seems worse with Britt because she's not as good as putting other people over in promos and matches as those two guys are. Nor does AEW let her. AEW really needs to do a better job of building contenders and making you believe the champ can lose, especially with Britt. Kenny's Run did all the right thing for a long-term title reign with an obvious finish. Britt's was the opposite

Honestly, a quick title turnaround wouldn't be such a bad thing. Having Britt be desperate and enraged and demanding to get her title back would probably freshen her up a bit, even if she quickly regains the belt from Riho. I know Tony is against hotshotting titles, but if every champion has a multi-month reign then it's hard to get too invested in their first few title defenses because they're foregone conclusions.
If she loses the title then feuding with Hayter would be first

Losing the Impact titles to Christian helped put some extra jeopardy on their AEW title match, for one. Plus, it's Kenny Omega. If he can't make something work, nobody can.

Even Kenny's reign even in retrospect I can't really see any reason to have had as long as it was and think they should've just ended at Double or Nothing, but it was a hell of a lot better than this Britt run is.

The biggest problem with Britt's reign right now is that she wins her defenses the same exact way every time. And unlike Omega or the Bucks, she isn't that much of a master of the ring where the match quality can compensate for it. And her heel shtick was great at first, but now it's become really stale.

Sis got to hold that L very soon
Rosa has been basically the person set to dethrone her since she won the title but they really didn't even have to wait that long. Soho came in hot and they could made a quick change there and had Britt win it back to freshen up the scene

Now that Jade can hold it down as the dominant heel champ (bad call in my opinion, but whatever), it’s time to let a baby face take the top prize. I’ve been bored of Baker for most of this year, so I’d welcome it.

I'm more ambivalent on Omega than many, but you could buy into him as the true Kayfabe Best Wrestler in the World, Even If You Hate Him. I don't get that vibe with Baker--she's just a whiner who either cheats or gets lucky all the time. I like me a nice Memphis style heel but Memphis heels didn't have 9-month title reigns. That's why I think she'll be more interesting if she doesn't have the belt--I want to see what Baker does when she's truly ANGRY, not just complaining.

Imo on a special show called BATTLE OF THE BELTS with only two title matches, you probably should have a title change right? With that logic, I feel like Britt might actually have a better chance at dropping the belt than Cody at this time.

For better or worse, there are a lot of fans who look to AEW to be a counter-point to what WWE are doing at any given time. So when AEW appear to be almost doing the exact same thing, a dominant heel women’s champion with no significantly obvious endgame in sight, it’s only natural that it would breed frustration.

Yeah I'm so sick of Britt. She's been the main character of the women's division since Double or Nothing 2019 (or as someone more aptly described in the live thread tonight just a main nefarious force of evil rather than a character). I feel like her cool heel schtick has led to her title reign losing all its momentum. The division desperately needs a face champ now especially with Jade likely also to have a longass run with her belt lest it just be misery booking. As the person who made that description....yeeeaahhh. I like Britt a lot, and given her, ah, social media presence that was felt last week, I have to wonder if she, the real person, is complacent and failing to realize how much AEW is failing her. Like, the common complaint is that Britt and Jade are the only women that AEW cares about, and certainly this reign hasn't dissuaded that notion, but they're giving her all of these things that are great on paper (main event defenses, publicity, dominant booking), but there's such a failure in characterization and conflict that it's denting Britt's value by making her boring. Seriously. When she won the title, the cheers for her were thunderous. She was getting megastar reactions. That's cooled down drastically to this mixed reaction that's just loud enough to hit normal heat. I kind of cringe seeing her doing the DMD gesture and just not getting the reaction it used to get. It's not danger level, but it's stunning how much the excitement has dissipated. On her way up to the title, she was a great villain to Rosa, and she was a villain protagonist in the final stretch to challenging Shida. Part of why I like her - one of my favorite tropes is a villain who's constantly hanging on, using wits and limited resources to get away when it matters even when they're overmatched. (Ask me sometime to gush about the original Hobgoblin story in Spider-Man, or to explain why Sledge is the best Power Rangers villain.) She had a story, that she was taking advantage of the in-universe mechanics of AEW's rankings and benefiting more from others' losses than her own merits. But now she just...exists. She wins. She has cronies, one of whom she's having dissension with, but not in any way that's inventive or even individual. All the while, her matches have gotten more predictable because AEW has done such a wretched job of building up her challengers - Statlander and Conti both just kind of beat the Bunny a few times on the way to the title match, Statlander and Ruby and Riho have all had matches with Hayter to warm them up. Oh, and Nyla had a bizarrely bad build that involved Vickie Guerrero getting in the ring. All of these challengers are suffering because they're on the backburner when they're not challenging, and their run-up to the challenge is samey. And then Britt suffers because, eh, of course she'd beat them, and now she's just a default instead of a unique heel with an interesting backstory and fun mannerisms. And my big complaint from that post: who, exactly, is the protagonist of AEW's women's division? One of the things that kept Kenny's reign from being too miserable was Hangman clearly on the horizon - and I think it needs to be emphasized that Hangman had Things To Do. After losing his #1 contender's match with Kenny, he had interactions with the Dark Order to tell us more about who he is, he stood up to Matt Hardy's predatory shenanigans, and he kept faith in himself when Brian Cage waylaid him. I think Lizuka's right that it went too long, but he had things going on that were relevant to his personality. Meanwhile, presumable heir Rosa has just...existed, and only finally gotten a good feud after spending all summer and fall in complete limbo. Ruby is only just now getting that kind of character development, and like, it's so hard to imagine AEW sticking that landing when there's not a lot laid out for Ruby to accomplish right now unless she absolutely annihilates Baker.

So when AEW appear to be almost doing the exact same thing, a dominant heel women’s champion with no significantly obvious endgame in sight, it’s only natural that it would breed frustration. At least I can look at the AEW Women's division and see like five viable challengers at any given time to take the belts meaning I see an endgame in sight, meanwhile in WWE if I have to name people to take either womens title it's like "OK so there's Bianca, Sasha, and uh... um...uuuuuuhhhhh...is Asuka coming back??"

The whole redemption arc thing that they planned with Rosa, I believe they will do it with Ruby instead and maybe do some change of plans.

Sprinkling in some 1 month title reigns make the long title reigns mean something. Also, it adds an unpredictability factor to the shows. You do a couple shocking title wins, then it enters people's minds that a title can change hands in any match. This is something both companies have failed at, you gotta have that anything can happen hook.

In general I feel like in recent years in wrestling year long title reigns have become so commonplace as to be completely goddamn meaningless. Just looking at WWE since 2015 there's been Lesnar, Reigns, Dunne (who had it for nearly two), WALTER (who had it for over two), Becky, Bayley, New Day, AJ, Adam Cole, Asuka, Shayna, very nearly Io, and that's just off the top of my head and feeling like I'm forgetting some. With rare exception if your TV show is in a holding pattern for over 52 episodes then you're a shitty writer.
