Botch? Was the actual ending?
On one hand if it was planned I do like the idea that you screw up a high risk spot and eat shit like that and you lose. But it does make the leader of the goober squad look like the giant goober he is. If its a botch wow on Pillman to not hurt himself slipping like that

Pillman jr also had an excuse when he lost vs MJF, now they can have Brody debut and have him and Malakai beat the Blonds to end the feud for good.

I think it was a botch that was covered up super well. I could see Black moving his body to setup the kick in midair. But he quickly and smoothly set him up for the normal kick and it worked just as well.

A botch that progressed the story like Daniels vs the Bucks last year.

I said last night that I know Pillman had some issues in the last couple of months but man it feels he has regressed a ton

I said last night that I know Pillman had some issues in the last couple of months but man it feels he has regressed a ton I think he could use a change in alignment. He's not a super natural high flyer and his babyface comebacks aren't great. If he turns heel, he can expand his range and work a style that better fits his strengths.

I’ve only been saying the dude is a heel since around the MJF mini-push. I’m not willing to completely throw the guy under the bus, botches aside, his wrestling isn’t bad necessarily. I think a lot of the frustration comes from pushing him as plucky face. It doesn’t gel. He might work as a heel.

10/10 spot of the year. Made me laugh loud enough to scare my cat.
I feel terrible for Brian, but I feel like it's somehow actually better than if things had gone correctly? A midair Black Mass would be impressive timing-wise but probably look a little awkward compared to midair superkicks. Gravity's not going to cooperate in the best way to make it look devastating.
As-is, it came across like Pillman was rattled to the point he f***ed up his big hope spot, then Malakai kicked his fool head off and lazily pinned him with a "that was pathetic, boy" expression on his face.

It was an incredibly well taken botch, I'm assuming it wasn't intentional as it didn't play into the story of the match to me at least.
The lights out transportation fell flat too as you could tell the live crowd (and me at home) were expecting this stable to start forming with a debut.

I've well past ready for Pillman to stay off my TV screen already.

It doesn't help Brian's case that Griff has been getting really good over the past year and had a much better match with Black last week. Now it was a little shorter to be fair but the action was still a good bit better. They're a fun act but it might be time to move on for each of them to something else.

I think in the last few months Pillman Jr.'s really outed himself as a pretty dumb dude and I think last night was the first time his in-ring persona met his out-of-ring persona. The weird flip followed by 2 seconds of footwork to get himself into position to get knocked out made him look like a tool. I'm glad he's OK, but that botch made him look pretty bad.

I think I like my kayfabe explanation of Black’s mindgames getting the best of Brian Jr. and it caused him to lose focus for a second.

Pillman needs to find his niche because this guy just ain't doing it for me. It’s weird because when I did a binge of MLW Fusion, Pullman as a heel with Teddy Hart and Davey Boy Jr. was some pretty solid heeling. Him turning on old man Sullivan was good. I had high hopes for that guy. Then we got Flyin Brian 2 instead of the Loose Cannon 2 that he was doing, and it’s nowhere near as good.

Yeah that would be dope, I get the idea that yeah he'd be better as a midcard heel. We're not really warming up to him as a face so turning him heel would be best. Just have him come out and attack Hangman or something simply because Page is getting the love he feels he should get and if not, work up to that. Those MJF/Pillman's family and Moxley things were the most he's been cheered and that's due to who he was against and the story at hand. He needs more than that to get over.

I’m not the world’s biggest Pillman fan, but I feel like I have to play devil’s advocate a bit here and say that I really feel like Pillman Jr. is disproportionately disliked on FAN than he is by the fanbase at large. He gets pretty decent crowd reactions, and I notice that he has a lot of support on Reddit and social media.
I think sometimes we just assume that FAN’s opinion mirrors the opinion at large, and that’s definitely not always the case.

When you think about it, the dude should be a no-brainer as a top babyface. He’s got the back story, he has a decent look and he’s not terrible in the ring. However it’s just not clicking - anytime he gets a decent story line (MJF, Black) he just comes across as extremely mediocre. I think the crowd wants to like him and AEW wants the crowd to like him….but then he talks or wrestles and it’s just….disappointing?
