I stumble across this every few year and I love it every time. Never seen the whole film but starting to think I should track it down.

This never ceases to make me laugh. Especially the part with the voice over where Crush is taunting the crowd. I can't believe that they actually expected Brian Lee to pass as the Undertaker considering how much smaller he is. Standing next to Crush he looked a few inches shorter and about fifty pounds smaller.
Does anyone know where this was filmed? I always assumed it was filmed in India with it being an India movie and all the cast sans Crush and Underfaker being Indian but I just noticed that the baseball stadium in the background looks like the Toronto Skydome and I'm pretty sure it is as it has the retractable roof and I believe it was the only baseball stadium to have that at that point and this was filmed around 94 or 95 I would guess.

That is a good observation, that sure does look like skydome.

Some Google fu reveals that the movie was shot primarily in Canada and Russia.

So, were they both under WWE contract at the time this was filmed? I know it's Brian Lee, but it confuses me.

I know he was also arrested in 1995 as he was in the 95 Rumble in a one off after not being seen since August of 94 as I guess maybe some legal issues had popped up around that time and then he wasn't seen again until a year and a half later when he returned as convict Crush managed by lawyer character Clarence Mason who in storyline had gotten him out of jail. According to wiki he was released on a $10,275 bail which makes think he wasn't in there long. Kind of makes his 1996 reintroduction funny with them portraying him as this hardened convict who had been in jail for over a year when in reality he was probably only in for a day or two and was actually spending that time starring in Bollywood movies.

Given that Crush's bail was so low and his sentence was just five years' probation, it's very unlikely he spent more than a day or two in jail. Quite likely he spent less time than that.

I'm not familiar with how it all works but with the low bail and the light sentence I figured he served very little time. The fact that he likely wasn't even in jail a for day makes the convict Crush character even more silly. If they wanted to be more accurate and real maybe they should've brought him back as movie star Crush instead where he would be this delusional heel who thinks he's a big star because he had a bit part in one Bollywood movie.

I mean, he was essentially fired on TV due to his arrest and was gone for 18 months. The convict gimmick actually made for some good continuity within the company, more so than a gimmick based on a bit part in a movie nobody watching would even know existed.

It is somewhat amusing that Crush barely spending time in jail for largely a steroid purchasing charge got him turned into a hardened criminal on TV while Ken Patera throwing a boulder through a restaurant window and punching a cop in the face transformed him into a sympathetic babyface supposedly screwed over by his manager.

Crush’s backstory in this movie sounds hilariously similar to the killer in My Bloody Valentine. A miner that was buried alive with other miners and cannibalized on the others to survive only difference instead of going Friday The 13th he went full Mortal Kombat. Oh and he is now Russian instead of Hawaiian.

The convict gimmick actually made for some good continuity within the company, more so than a gimmick based on a bit part in a movie nobody watching would even know existed. I was joking about the movie star gimmick as I always found it funny how he was repackaged so many times while always keeping the name Crush. Demolition Crush, babyface surfer dude Crush, evil Japanese sympathizer Crush, criminal Crush, biker Crush. Why not give movie star Crush a try? I agree that the convict gimmick was good continuity and a nice way of using a real life happening to repackage a returning character. I also thought it was a good use of the Clarence Mason gimmick. Having the heel lawyer be the reason for him being released from prison and returning to the WWF made perfect sense. I was just saying I found it funny that were portraying him as this hardened criminal who now had a head tattoo and a nose ring when in reality he was in prison maybe a day for purchasing steroids.
