I've honestly never watched it even though I like other "non kids" animation.
It seemed too much like it was aimed at wholesome conservative middle America type people from the little bit I saw.
Or is the joke that its making fun of those kind of people?

I clearly remember rushing home to see King of the Hill cause I forgot to set the vcr. Also arguing the next day at work if Hank Hill was "That old neighbor of Beavis and butthead".

Or is the joke that its making fun of those kind of people? For the most part it shows the Hills and most the town of Arlen as very flawed, but not entirely all bad. There’s a lot to like I’d imagine for much of mid-America but the show is mainly satirical.

Greg Daniels had the writing staff spend a good chunk of time living in the Dallas suburbs so they could get an accurate depiction of the area instead of doing the easy "lol Texas" thing. I just rewatched the show over the holidays (thanks, COVID) and the first 8 seasons plus the last season are some of the best post-Seinfeld television comedy. Just incredibly well written, every character has incredible development and everyone can both be a face or a heel at any given moment
