The TNT exec who said hockey's a much safer sport and will get gonzo ratings or whatever: Hockey has a VERY affluent, high-spending audience, the richest of the 4 major team sports. And far richer than wrestling. There's more to ratings than just raw viewership totals. I just wanted to make a funny

Mixed tag match gotta main event next week.
Sucks that Serena vs Shida was the lowest point along with Acclaimed vs BC(this match was expected).
Brody debut was solid and Archer return was good.

Was there something else on at 9 of note? That seems like a massive drop for a time when usually viewership goes up due to people changing channels.

Serena vs. Shida was in a bad spot on the show. Also AEW has not booked the feud that great and it feels like the momentum has fizzled quite a bit. Shida vs. Nyla in the TBS Tournament did very well. So the former CAN do good numbers. AEW just hasn’t done this feud many favors.

The new channel is definitely showing more fluctuation than TNT's much steadier flow, but that's to be expected, it's a completely new Network. That Big Bang Theory lead in is paying huge dividends though, jesus. I have no clue what happened at 9. Did an NBA game come on? Hockey was there I think? Was an intriguing drop, not one you regularly see AEW have, though it could also be the lead in curiosity dropping off after a time, most of those viewers came back for Punk/MJF and left again The quarter that the show dropped wasn't really on Serena and Shida, it was always meant to be more angle than match to write her out, a ton of segments in a row can sometimes make the audience drift, but they did an excellent job building Deeb up and I hope that continues next week. Still think the Bear Country match was an audible, either Max's diss track didn't fly or they realized they had a lot of segments in hour two and wanted to balance out with wrestling, can't fault them for that, Bear Country just need more build. And while a lot happened in that quarter, you can't say Matt Hardy still doesn't draw some eyes when he wrestles, he certainly didn't chase people off. I thought this show was well paced, but the second hour lacked a bigger hook, both wrestler and figuritive And the predictable main event probably didnt help. I agree the Mixed Tag probably mains, and Punk probably opens. One positive thing we can say though is it really looks like their ability to gain over a million on TBS seems much easier than on TNT. They aren't even coming out guns blazing with their cards right now and are focused on card building, and they did well. Just a matter of the audience keeping a bit more consistent and I think that'll come with stronger cards.

So the former CAN do good numbers. AEW just hasn’t done this feud many favors. I thought this feud hit fine story beats. After match three Serena got frustrated she dropped two straight to Shida. She helps take Shida out of the TBS Title running, and then when Deeb cuts a promowith JR running Shida down, Shida accepts match four, she takes her knee out even further, shelving her, while beginning her own rise in the division in the process, and starting 2022 off great Match 5 is definitely gonna have a stipulation to it, have a feeling these girls are gonna work their asses off when the time comes, and Im ready for it.

That's always a problem for wrestling with whoever goes against it. Sistas Series 4 and The First 48 also were things that started at 9. Not sure if the NBA game that started at 7:45 got really good by the end. Otherwise Real Housewives being right behind AEW and having a similar average viewership I point at as a culprit.

I think the Shida/Deeb match before this one didn't do a very good number either. Not their fault at all cause they're incapable of having a bad match together, but the story is just straight up boring. They've been feuding for something like 6+ months and hardly anything has actually happened besides a brief trophy arc and a whole lot of matches. The big women's blood feud shouldn't be so barebones and simple that you could book it like segment for segment on EWR.

It really has been a pretty damn dull feud past the matches, and I have no earthly idea why it's dragged on for like four months. I'm not even entirely clear what they're fighting over, best I can tell one week Serena got mad over a trophy and they've just both been hung up on it for like a quarter of a year now.

Also NHL in the old AEW timeslot on TNT did just over 400k with a 0.12 demo and ranked 42nd. Never should’ve put the Stanley Cup on Jinder.

It's pretty cut and dry, Serena thinks she is the best woman's wrestler on the roster, she's pissed Shida got to 50 wins first, and now she's even more pissed that Shida one upped her twice, so she went as far as to injure her and put her on the shelf which sets off Deeb's own run (Since Shida's gonna be taking time off) which is a plus And I mean... the matches have been pretty spaced out, two in October to set up Deeb being pissed that Shida was being treated to an award, one in December for the rubber match, and one now after some little storyline beats like Deeb hurting Shida's knee in the first place. It's been simple I guess, but I don't think that's been a terrible thing, it's a feud of one upswomanship, two of the best, imo they can fight 5000 times and I wouldn't care, and I thought it was smart that they didn't really have a MATCH this time around, save it for the actual true rubber match, set Serena up as a monster, should be a fun plotline going forward I'd think.

Didn't Deeb literally take Shida's knee out during the TBS Championship? And the knee played into her losing, and has now played into Deeb shelving her The JR interview I thought explained it pretty nicely, Deeb's tired of being overlooked, Shida got lucky, and she made her pay for it. She's like a female heel Bret Hart, and I think that rocks. She did exactly what she said she was gonna do.

Okay but I feel like you've sorta just explained what I mean that hardly anything has happened for a feud that's been going this long. It's not that I don't get it, it's that I think it's way too plain to be dragging out this long and could be so much more than what it is if there was more meat to it than just matches against eachother. It's a super skippable feud that should be like can't miss.

Next weeks show should/can be formatted better.
Kick off with Acclaimed vs Sting and Darby, Punk vs Spears ending in Q5 followed by Codys return, Mixed tag match to close the show.
Once Mox and Danielson return very soon AEW will be in good shape.

The pacing of this feud has done them no favors. It’s very inconsistent when they’re on TV and not. It hurts the flow. Also it’s REALLY hard to run FOUR matches in a relatively short amount of time for anyone. And frankly, Shida has not been portrayed all that well either. It’s like after she lost the belt, AEW forgot what made her popular to begin with. She was cool because she was this badass who could absorb insane amounts of punishment and would not stay down. That’s what made people like her. Starting with the Britt match, they made her look FAR weaker now. It’s the exact opposite of what people like her. Basically Deeb has destroyed her every step of the way for months now, with Shida only getting “lucky” roll up wins. People only have so much patience for seeing the faces get beaten down over and over and over again. Basically the portrayals have been off as well (Deeb’s motives have felt very thin as well). Essentially this is on AEW, they just have cooled this thing off with how it’s been presented.

the NHL bruins/canadiens game on TNT that replaced Dynamite did 434k viewers and .12 demo These games really hurt the American networks because Canadian viewership isn't counted in the ratings. So any viewership you'd have is immediately cut in like half (if not more) because you're cutting off an entire home market, especially for a team as popular as the Habs. True to this. Not to go off topic to AEW but the two teams are not drawing in todays NHL in the ratings when the Habs are a dumpster fire of a team this season and Boston is 4th place and quite behind in points to the top two teams in the division. So that's not appealing TV. History aside they are not the draw when they are not the top of the pack. You had a middle pack team vs a team in dead last. AEW did well but a Million should be the normal. The card was kind of week this week too. A good build up to future matches but when the ME is Sammy vs. Garcia lets be real Garcia is, not really the ME guy to end the show.
