From PWInsider:
Mustafa Ali is not the only WWE talent who has asked for a release and is waiting for it to be granted, PWInsider.com has confirmed with multiple sources.
We can confirm that Brian Kendrick, who had most recently been working as a producer on WWE NXT and 205 Live, requested a release from the company weeks ago and has not been to any TV tapings in Orlando in some time. We are told Kendrick has been waiting for a release "at least" six weeks.
Kendrick, 42, last wrestled for WWE in October 2020 on the 205 Live brand. The long-time WWE and former ROH star was originally trained by Shawn Michaels. Kendrick has had multiple runs with WWE, with this most recent one kicking off with the Cruiserweight Classic tournament back in 2016.

At this point it's like we need a separate thread dedicated to wrestlers who have asked for their release. I'm sure the amount is far higher than this.

Remember when Toni asked for her release and they felt like they had to grant it given the number of cuts they made? I wonder now if that was them just not even giving a shit about Toni, or if Vince woke up and decided "We can't let people go, they signed contracts, dammit!" again because consistency doesn't exist in this company.

Huh, had zero idea he was with WWE these days or had wrestled for them as recently as 2020, or was even still wrestling. Seems like a name from the past now but still quite young. I did used to like him!

I was wondering about that, with the Gacy/Harland storyline. Last I heard, he was considering himself retired from wrestling, then suddenly they threw him into this match. Not sure what happened between his agreeing to the match and it getting changed day of like it was, but huh. Hope he gets what he wants out of this, whatever that may be.

I think it may have more been an issue of proximity. Toni's was closer to the releases, whereas these two didn't benefit from that kind of timing. Now, whenever the next releases inevitably come, if the two don't get released, it makes the company look like shit, but if they do release them, I'm sure WWE would reason that the remaining talent will think Ali and Kendrick may have saved one or more of their hides. That, or they just want to cluster these things, to stave off the idea everyone's dropping like flies, despite that being what's happening.

I know during is most recent run, outside of his feud against TJ Perkins that helped launch the new Cruiserweight division... He was mostly used as a trainer, enhancement talent and an agent, but I've always been a fan of The Brain Kendrick.
And his brief moment as "WWE Champion" in the WWE Championship Scramble Match from Unforgiven in two-thousand and eight is still one of my favorite moments in wrestling and I wish he would have gotten a proper midcard run during that time.
Or at the very least been allowed to be "the guy" on the WWECW brand, he would have been such a welcomed addition alongside William Regal, Shelton Benjamin, and Christian to that brand during that time.

Taking away from the fact a lot of this stuff is chickens coming home to roost (the lack of care for having roles for talent that are beneficial to them, a system where being a midcarder might as well mean the same as jobber, paying people for doing nothing for no feasible reason), the real point of this recent stuff isâŠWWE opened this floodgates themselves. They cut (and likely will keep cutting from next month onwards) dozens and dozens of talent whether logical to do or not off of a âline goes upâ philosophy. If theyâre a smudge in the red, thatâs bad and they need to be in the green so shareholders can be happy that the line is going up.
They canât really suddenly go âOh, we donât want YOU to leaveâ especially when the people who HAVE left were people who were on TV and had active roles. You canât really go âWe canât let Brian Kendrick go, he might have a use at some point even though we havenât really booked him for monthsâ, now that youâve said âToni Storm lost a womenâs title match? Eh, seems like the right time to accept her releaseâ. Thereâs just no logical sense now youâve decided thatâs the case by your actions.
And yes, I know, Khan drafts a list and Vince accepts it because he also wants shareholders happy and WWE wouldnât know optics if it came up to Vince and kicked him in the nuts but still.

Wasn't he at NXT a few weeks ago getting thrown down some stairs?
I'm not saying he hasnt requested or shouldn't be granted, but the way that article is written is done in such a way as to to fan the flames of current sentiment.

And they made it into he was going to wrestle Harland because of it on the last NXT episode of 2021. But the night his match was supposed to happen, they said he hadn't responded to Harland and switched it to Harland vs Andre Chase.

There can't be that much more to cut without it deeply impacting the product negatively. I mean, they're still misusing certain of their talents but they can't afford to cut anymore without the TV ratings sliding to the point at which the networks might have to rethink their deals.
