“Hearing stories, you know every once in a while there’d be a cameraman or a lighting guy that’s been with us for as long as I’ve been with the company, and they’ll be like ‘remember that time, I think it was ’05 when you did blah blah blah,’ and then they’ll proceed to tell a story in front of a group of people that just paints me in the worst light and it’s embarrassing, and it’s like, man, I was an asshole. “I think being a father changed me. I think my wife really had a lot to do with kind of opening my eyes. It’s been a group effort, I’ve been lucky to be around a lot of talent backstage that, not necessarily mentored me, but I learned a lot from John Cena, to be honest. I learned a lot from Cena, I learned a lot from Edge, just in this last go-around, you know. “Being a father and being a professional wrestler, and traveling and all the temptations, and what you put your body through can really add up. I was lucky to have some really great men in the locker room, that I can see how they went about life, see how they were with their kids.” “I got to see Shawn Michaels, who by all accounts was a complete asshole, and when I met him I even thought he was a prick, but I saw the change and I heard the stories, and I feel like it’s kind of funny now that we’re talking about it, same thing kind of happened to me, kind of. It’s part of the journey, right? I think my legacy is longevity and being able to be one of those guys that got to wrestle everybody and got to see generation come in and another generation come in. “That’s what my thing is. Having the newer mindset, kind of accepting that I’m happy like it’s OK to be happy. I think that’s helped me overall as a human being more so than a performer. If anything, I am able to have more fun in the ring now because I don’t take everything else so seriously.” www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2022/02/randy-orton-says-wwe-stars-helped-him-overcome-attitude-problems/

'Locker room leader Randy Orton' is not a phrase I'd have believed to be true back in 2014, let alone 2004. Good for him.
I love the 'its OK to be happy' line of thinking. Seemingly such an easy and obvious concept, but I think a lot of us know that it does not work like that.

Randy being in a good spot mentally and not turning into one of those Bob Holly-esque assholes is such a great turn of events.

How Orton remembers himself every time someone tells one of those stories

I really like hearing these sorts of stories. I feel like it's easy for folks to define others by their worst moments (and certainly some acts are so heinous that it should) but I truly believe people can change and we should embrace their attempts to get better as opposed to keeping them locked into the their one identity.

"I'll hear these production guys tell stories about how awful I am. I set them straight by taking a dump in their bag."

He seems to be in such a good place mentally and it’s really shining through in his recent work.

RANDY:Pooping in someone's bag, isn't right? But Undertaker said I was cool.

Total Chad. I think the ‘good guy’ in Orton was always there, it was just a lot of immaturity and acting out. Either way, his progress and journey since then is heartwarming.

Man, I always marked for Orton, but it's great to see him get cooler by the minute.

As far as graceful, reasonable dad-ifications go, Orton has actually had a really smooth one.

Darren Young said that when he was in WWE and came out as gay. Orton told him that if anyone started giving him a hard time about it, to let Randy know and he would sort it out.

Some washed up has been out there probably thinks this is why wrestling isn't as good as it used to be.

Some washed up has been out there probably thinks this is why wrestling isn't as good as it used to be. Undertaker opens his sock draw, and see a bundle of wrist tape. “Soon…”

Good to know he can acknowledge that he used to be an asshole. Also good to know he's learned from his past mistakes so kudos to him for that.

He was really nice when I met him, during his Rated RKO days. Edge was awesome, but I was nervous to say anything to Orton, after the bad impression from Batista. (I'm over that, now.) Orton was extremely nice to me. I really like him with Riddle, too.
